Souvenir from Grasse 1
My sister spent the first two weeks of summer vacation this year with her husband and sons in a small, picturesque village in Provence. When I learned that excursions to Grasse and Eze were planned, I was immediately on standby with various shopping requests.
The shopping list for the Galimard house included Monsieur Galimard, Napoleon 1815, and Seigneur. Except for the Monsieur, which is unfortunately no longer produced, all wishes were fulfilled. And this fulfillment of wishes is truly a revelation in both cases!
I had never encountered Galimard fragrances before and must admit that the two creations from the house that I have now come to know are absolutely convincing and make me curious for more.
Seigneur is a very noble and distinguished leather scent, not loud and opulent as, for example, Knize Ten, but rather gentle and soft, even shy and a bit repressed.
It starts with a fresh top note that is clearly more green than citrus. The heart and base notes are dominated by jasmine and leather, which also maintain a green undertone. In the base, the fragrance becomes increasingly animalistic and reveals a very erotic note.
Longevity and sillage are rather average, but this does not detract from the fragrance. This leather scent is definitely wearable in summer and does not take away your breath.
I would date the fragrance to the 1930s or early 1950s and, although it is labeled as a men's fragrance, I can also see it on women. It has a slight resemblance to Balmain's "Jolie Madame."
In the Galimard boutique in Grasse, Seigneur is also no longer found on the shelves but is retrieved from storage upon request. It is only available in a 250ml splash bottle in a wonderful Art Deco flacon. The saleswoman told my sister with a smile that she had just bought the last bottle from the stock…. This is, of course, another special feature that makes me appreciate the fragrance even more than I already do….
