An Escape For The Senses
Canyon Escape is a fantastic, musky, semi-woody cologne with light blue glass and a brown wooden cap that unfolds with a burst of sunny citrus. Although the top notes include bergamot, pepper and cardamom, it centres the first few minutes on spicy bergamot and mandarin, and I get bitter orange too. Pepper is toned down; it doesn't make me sneeze, while the green balsamic cardamom sits a few rows back. The opening is sour, citrus peel prevails, and not too spicy. In the background, there is an acidic fruit edge, something like an unripe pineapple.
Then the scent changes and takes another direction with herbal and woody facets. The first note that oozes from the heart is the inked vetiver, earthy but not too herbaceous, which resembles the one used in Encre Noire Eau de Toilette. The quality and the smoky green shade are identical. Aside from the ink, vetiver smells like leather, smoky leather. Velvety sage adds a tinge of green. I don't feel the resinous juniper, and I miss the balsamic nuance of freshly crushed berries. In fact, I see the similarity to "Aventus (Eau de Parfum) | Creed" that others have noticed, but Canyon Escape isn't a clone, just the same category. They have a similar opening of fresh fruit, a smoky heart, and a warm, earthy, and musky base.
The smokiness of vetiver lingers in the dry-down, along with a hint of modern patchouli that adds a veil of dirty sweetness and an overdose of musky and musky accords. Next to my skin, I smell the manly musk, which makes the scent last longer with a generous dose of salty ambergris. The base is predominantly woody, with some slight and occasional burning smell that could be related to that mix of patchouli and vetiver. Perhaps it features an unmentioned bite of Iso E Super, which adds a woody tinge and fixes the scent on the skin. The last stage has something animalic with a masculine edge.
I found Canyon Escape to last a few hours, almost half a day, which is promising. The fresh and mossy edges, the aromatic and delicate woods, plus a touch of sweetness make it ideal for spring and summer mornings or evenings. It's a cologne that screams freedom, holidays, and outdoor social events. It adheres to the skin and does not offend people around. But it is so beautiful and safe that you can wear it indoors to work, school or any place. Intended for the younger generation, the result is not at all boring, not squeaky, not too fruity, and it suits a daddy like me perfectly.
I base the review on a 50ml bottle I have owned since September 2022.
