Strickt, cold and distant

Sigh... As with all Schwarzlose perfumes, I periceve them as stricks, rigid and a bit distant, without much emotial thing going on. That's just my observation and perception. (Only exception is A1-33 which gives me enough comfort thanks to the linden note.)
Rosa Centifolia is spicy and woody cold and green rose, high quality fragrance, but it doesn't resonate with me. Some percieve Schwarzlose fragrances as quirky, eccentric and others just the opposite: traditional, rigid, vintage...
I think they are long lasting, quality perfumes, but olfactory aesthetic just doesn't push my buttons. Is anyone on the same page about this? :-)
I so want to like them but can't really comprehend them...

A Respectable Rose

Here I should leave Gertrude Stein and her rose aphorism behind, for this creation tells a different story.
A rose for sure, albeit a contemporary interpretation of it and not to be seen as closed.

Perhaps a parable offers a somewhat simpler understanding.
For this, I invoke the Fasanenstraße in Berlin.
If this mile were a closed urban experience, one could say: yes, look there, the Fasanenstraße is a symbol of the upscale bourgeoisie of the capital. This is the good room of Berlin, come what may. Period.
Is that true?
Well, the passage of time has taken a toll on the once magnificent boulevard. Signs of respectful handling fell victim to barbarism, while others endured. Occasionally, the mundane economy mixed with corresponding architecture among the building ruins after the war, not to mention the monotonous design of academic institutions along the northern stretch.
Now it becomes clear that no aphorism can describe the good room as such anymore.

A rose is a rose is not a rose.

Here, a beautiful petitgrain note makes its way into the nose. It comes across noticeably more bitter than familiar Cologne water references. Perhaps the content of bitter orange branches has been increased here. Not piercing, very delicate and caressing.
Like a gentle smile.

The greeting becomes warmer, more sensual.
Osmanthus in a dark ochre tone combines with, as I believe I can smell, black cardamom. That kind, which is more bitter and slightly corporeal in hue.
It is that expectant gaze, the seductive eyes, the desire. Stay right there!
A brief moment, then osmanthus and cardamom evaporate.
One pauses and wants to address the rose.

But this rose wishes to be respectfully desired, it embodies elevated love artistry.
Without haste or rush, it strolls elegantly onward. With a certain coolness, it turns around stealthily. Its dark red splendor gradually becomes apparent.
Don't come too close! Wait, give me time!

Such an enchanting courtship belonged, as often captured in literature, to the firm fabric of the noble West of the capital. A smile, a glance, yes, a stylish rejection could transform a stroll along the Kurfürstendamm and the Fasanenstraße into an exciting experience.

But the scent does not stand still in time. It quotes what has been in old splendor, yet develops contemporarily.

It rests on a woody base with well-constructed synthetics.
Here it becomes clear that the rose no longer needs the tight corset, the modest dress, and the black choker with cameo brooch. Nor a liberated waist, the bobbed hair, and straight lines. And certainly no three-piece suit and monocle with a Panama hat.

This rose can wear anything today; the style of clothing is secondary. However, it should be liked, that is its fundamental condition.
Vetiver and myrrh make it clear that other possibilities of courting have taken hold here. Somewhat more sober, comparatively rougher. The coded is slowly becoming unnecessary; one knows the intention, and time should not be wasted.
This is also made clear by the wood-synthetic and the ambroxan.
Strolling? For what? Today, one relies on algorithms on the internet. Quick arrangements, clear ideas, no grand illusions.

And yet, a hint of melancholy and vulnerability wafts with this rose.
It knows of the enduring treasures of past times. No longer as a unity, yet still individually experienceable on the Fasanenstraße.
The theater, the literature café, the magnificent buildings along the southern stretch.

There is something it will not let go of and shows it proudly: A rose is met with respect!

And so it coyly flirts along the Fasanenstraße.
