Angular and mineralic
Fresh and citrusy, but dusty and mineralic thanks to the firm strokes of aldehydes applied with a steel wire brush. This creates something that feels simultaneously bright and grey, like a lemon desaturated of its neon brightness and rolled in rock salt. The salty, aerated musks and amber molecules give the scent that brisk, minimalist character that appeals to those longing for a second skin type of scent experience, one that neither transports nor inspires, but is an extension of 'id'.
I can see the point of functional perfumery - I am happy to smell of nothing but Mysore sandalwood soap or Le Petit Marsellais lotion for days on end and I appreciate what deliberately stripped out musks like Fleur de Peau can do for me - but there still needs to be some small curve of sweetness or softness worked into the weave to give me pleasure or comfort. And unfortunately, Altruist is slightly sour and angular throughout.
