The Sound of Silence
"Hello Darkness, my old friend, I've come to talk with you again..."
So begins "The Sound of Silence", the song Simon & Garfunkel released in 1964.
An evergreen, which even without "his appearance" in 1967 in the movie "Die Reifeprüfung" with Dustin Hoffmann, would not have been forgotten so quickly.
Together with "Mrs. Robinson" "The Sound of Silence" has conquered its place among the so called "Soundtracks" of the sixties.
But this is not the first piece of music that comes to my mind with "Silences". Even if it gives this comment its title.
"Silences" lets the also very old hit of the "Tremeloes" "Silence is Golden" (1971) sound very quietly in me Not as well known as "The Sound of Silence", this Schlager is much more appropriate in my opinion.
Because darkness, even if it's called an "old friend," I don't find in "silences,"
On the contrary: a sun-flooded farmer's garden near a spicy coniferous forest - my "nose eye" can see this from the very first spraying.
The afternoon heat flickers; nature seems to be asleep - it's "The Hour of Pan"!
Back there, in the small grove of citrus fruits, he sits: his flute already ready to play in his hand.
But first the little forest god listens to the fragrant silence that surrounds him: his place has been deliberately chosen - this is where his afternoon concert begins.
Here he has the whole afternoon "Klangkörper der Natur" in front of him.
Bergamot and lemon refresh; the fruits hang above him in the trees; like small balls they seem to him today.
The delicate fragrance of the orange blossoms, which floats around it finely, makes this hairy companion very contemplative and dreamy.
It is these trees that bear fruit and blossoms at the same time, which stand in the very small plantation.
Through the afternoon heat also spicy galbanum penetrates to its cleverly chosen place; it warms the resin and it pulls in pleasant swaths through the citrus grove!
A piece of fragrant music quietly fills the silence.
The old farmer's garden lies like poured out under the sun's rays: the flowers awakened from their long sleep enjoy light and warmth.
They loll about sluggishly and stretch their flower heads towards this life-giver; in their enthusiasm they generously shed their scents full of passion.
So hyacinth and lily of the valley unite here - both perhaps a little bit in the category "slightly stinky" to classify; also the white jasmine often belongs to it.
As you know, this is a matter of opinion: the male and female perfume communities often differ here!
But what a symphony of fragrances it is when these magnificent floral aromas meet the spicy citrus freshness of the overture!
The ground covered with grass between the flowers adds to this still green slightly earthy freshness.
It cannot be clearly assigned to one species: it is fresh green, which fits harmoniously into this previous round dance.
Iris and Rose held back a bit at first: perhaps they were too fine to sing along in the choir of "simple garden flowers" from the very beginning.
Now they are present, they are fully involved; only the "little ones" don't leave them the places in the "first row": they have to sing with them flower choir - whether they like it or not!
As the fragrance develops, they are now all very compatible with each other: a light, fragrant flow fills the afternoon silence with sound!
Pan, the "bocksfüßige" God, with his pointed goat ears and tail, lets his yellow eyes, similar to those of goats, glide with pleasure over the picture that offers itself to him.
His gaze now gets caught on stronger players: Moss - deep dark, earthy, moist and very, very fragrant - meets spicy cedar wood here.
He nods satisfied: How beautifully these two harmonize with the abundance of fruits and flowers; how little is missing to complete this luminous fragrance.
Musk and sandalwood tastefully set the last chords of this fragrance work of art.
God Pan can now use his flute wherever he wants - the stage belongs to him.
"Silences" is fragrant, felt silence: everything floats in the sunlight, the soft humming of bumblebees, the distant sawing of cicadas, the light whispering of the wind belongs in this silence: for this silence lives!
She breathes deeply, vibrates with life and fills me with comfort.
This silence does not frighten, it does not oppress - it simply makes you happy and is welcome!
Because it opens the senses wide: it lets you hear, see, smell, taste and feel!
A swinging silence in green and gold:
"Silence is golden, but my Eyes still see ..."
