Pretty!

I like "Very Irresistible" in spite of its stupid name and the bad reviews it often gets. Uninventive, boring, bland, nondescript, "utterly devoid of beauty" (Luca Turin!). Well. To my nose, VI is an uncomplicated, pretty rose fragrance. The Special Edition from 2010 features the lush scent of "rose damascena" and is much more expressive than the "regular". It's a "safe" fragrance, nobody ever objected to it, I never heard a single negative remark about it when wearing it, on the contrary, I always get complimented on the "wonderful perfume". If you love fruity roses and want a pleasant, flowery scent, this edition might be the right thing for you.

The Two Faces of Rose D. (The Little Rose Unbuttons Her Blouse)

By day, she is cool. Distant. Her daytime makeup is bourgeois, understated, precise. Her skirt is knee-length, her blouse neat and high-necked. Her hair is tamed. Her aura: aloof, almost biting. Her passion: financial accounting.

After sunset, she sheds her skin. She takes off her high-necked blouse and frees her tamed hair. Her dress: neat is different. Her evening makeup: only carnivorous women wear such. Her aura: You can close your jaws again! Her passion: everything that cannot defend itself.

“Very Irresistible Rose Damascena 2010” is such a 2-in-1 woman. In the first hours, a cool, even frigid little rose that isn't even very rosy. Cool pale pink flowers based on alcohol. But at some point, after three or four hours: Cut! The total transformation! And what emerges is an unsweetened creaminess like no other. Almond-like, leathery, buttery, smooth, appetizing, sensual. Like tons of exquisite tonka bean, amber, musk from the best parents, and soft woods to go crazy over. A dream of a base that, to top it all off, lasts forever.

Rarely has a seemingly unremarkable little rose surprised me so much. I have never experienced such a metamorphosis in a perfume before.

Now I hope that this wondrous transformation is not due to my own skin chemistry. When I read the other comments, I am struck by the sinister suspicion that the little rose usually keeps her blouse buttoned up.

Nevertheless: Thank you to the garden fairy for this surprising fragrance experience!

The Irresistible Givenchy Rose?

How is it that the rose lover didn't know this fragrance until now? Well, I already know quite a few rose scents, but I can't know them all. There are just too many, and unfortunately also too many bad ones.

Rose Damascena by Givenchy, however, does not belong to the latter. On the contrary, it is a beautiful, albeit not necessarily natural rose scent. It rather showcases a playful form like those found in Les Parfums de Rosine. At first, a sweet, peach-melon-fruity opening creates a bit of confusion, but that dissipates as the rose unfolds. Initially, it blends its scent with the fruity notes, but then it becomes stronger and stronger, while the sweetness decreases simultaneously.

After that, the fragrance hardly changes anymore. The rose blooms and competes with itself in terms of scent as much as it can. And it lasts quite a long time! This rose easily survives an entire day and only needs a little refreshment for the night to continue blooming until the next morning.

Not bad for this Damask rose. But it lacks the edge, the character, the special something, the Irresistible! My rose fragrance collection will surely continue to shine without it...
