"Spray and Go"
A slogan more suited for glass cleaner, but it fits Sun Men Lavender & Vetiver just as well.
The Sun Men Eau de Toilette flanker has absolutely nothing to do with the DNA of its namesake and boasts one of the most spectacularly short longevity experiences I have encountered so far.
A regular spray on the wrist is hardly enough to even perceive the scent - a bit more is definitely needed! While excessive spraying is dangerous for most fragrances, here it is a necessity.
Even with generous application, the freshness flanker reveals a barely acceptable sillage that begins to fade somewhere between three-quarters of an hour and a full hour, disappearing completely after a maximum of 2 hours. Although the Sun Men Eau de Toilette flanker is quite inexpensive, the poor performance is still painful, especially when the bottle is likely to run out faster than a shot of schnapps for a binge drinker.
"But wait!" some may interject, "you can just layer it with 'Molecule 01 | Escentric Molecules' or 'Molecule 02 | Escentric Molecules' and then you might have a sufficiently long-lasting scent!" Yes, that may be true, but those also come with their costs, and you have to actually like the scent.
Because anyone expecting beautifully niche (or at least upscale designer) lavender and vetiver will likely be bitterly disappointed here. Both components are present but have been polished to the point of unrecognizability and mummified in a maximally fresh and synthetic guise. The lavender only appears as a lightly aromatic element, but is (contrary to what the name suggests) not prominently featured in the scent profile. The vetiver is probably the most innocuous I have ever encountered. It is almost completely devoid of the green, scratchy, bitter, and (sometimes) rough aspects. It is comparatively tame and easy to wear. Like the lemon in a Sprite, it doesn't hurt anyone anymore. Eucalyptus could be responsible for the synthetic kick, rosemary is absent.
The scent definitely smells like it just came out of the lab; there is nothing natural about it. However, that doesn’t necessarily have to be a bad thing, and surprisingly, I quite like "Sun Men Lavender & Vetiver | Jil Sander." It has, alongside the freshness and synthetics that define the main scent directions, a rather citrusy and slightly green side, along with a hint of something herbal. The scent reminds me of all-purpose cleaner, but of the better kind and in a classy way. You have to be into that; you have to like it, but then you won’t be disappointed. It’s a matter of expectations.
In summary, it’s a solid companion for short sports or everyday life and leisure, but it shouldn’t last too long, or else it will be gone again.
The wheel has not been reinvented here, and neither is this flanker necessary, nor will you miss it. Not even on the shelf, as the bottle, while looking okay in color, lacks the sandblasting and the smoothed-out cheap plastic cap, making you miss the nice craftsmanship a bit.
And so this child falls short of its father not only in terms of performance but also in outer and inner beauty.
