Time Travel with the Zeitgeist
It can no longer be denied: I have grown old.
Actually, my mirror tells me something different; I prefer to neither accept nor spread such unpleasant truths, and those who were born even earlier than I will certainly show me a bird.
And yet: My journeys into the past are getting longer; I have to go further back in time to locate a very specific memory, an experience, a person that comes to mind when the name of a fragrance is mentioned or when it wafts into my nose.

This is what happened to me today at the mention of "Jil Sander."
How long has it been since the perhaps greatest, but certainly the most famous German designer and her fragrances were part of my almost daily vocabulary, since everyone who cared about their image proudly showcased at least one Sander fragrance in their home bathroom?
Two decades and more have passed since that time when my passion for perfume was nourished daily by new encounters with people for whom a fragrance was an indispensable part of their wardrobe, who wanted to make a statement and often mark their territory.
This was not difficult at that time, as subtlety and understatement were not among the outstanding characteristics of the people, clothes, and fragrances that dominated the scene in the late eighties and early nineties.
With one exception perhaps: Jil Sander always celebrated a classically cool restraint in her fashion, a puristic severity - which, however, was not reflected in her fragrances, as these were very much adapted to the zeitgeist and were not meant to let their wearers go unnoticed.

They wore "Background" and "Man III," the men who crossed my path during that time, who were guests in my life for a little while or longer and enriched and shaped it in one way or another.
Colleagues and friends loved "Jil" and "Sun," my own heart was won by "No. 4" and lost again, while the wife of my then superior wore "Woman III" day in and day out, placing the fragrance on my personal "Mustn't have" list.
At some point, the hype subsided, at some point, other fragrances were noticed again, at some point, Jil Sander disappeared from my radar until she re-entered my sight and scent with "Sensations."
It was much quieter than anything that had previously borne the name Jil Sander on the bottle, gentle and sweet and once again catering to the capricious, fluttery zeitgeist, which I, in turn, could not relate to at that time.
And so it happened as it had to: Jil's fragrances slipped from my sight and thus from my mind.

Until at some point and somehow, through winding paths, "Stylessence" found its way into my collection.
How exactly that happened can no longer be reconstructed today - my memory is not what it used to be - but one day it was just there, the dark blue cube with the pink inscription.
For a long time, it stood undisturbed on the shelf, watching as my choice always fell on one or another of its many brothers and sisters, until it apparently realized that "falling" was its special keyword, and it boldly threw itself at me when I clumsily reached for its neighbor yesterday.
I just managed to catch it and save it from shattering - and thought that such boldness deserved to be rewarded.
"Pffft," it went...

...and I find myself amidst a cloud of the sweetest orange blossoms, drifting on a stream of orange juice - which obviously sprang from the Garden of Eden, as my brain immediately registers parallels to Cacharel's "Eden," which unfortunately did not seem paradisiacal to me at the time.
Fortunately, this similarity lasts only a fleeting moment and gives way to an increasing woodiness, without the dominance of the sweet orange being called into question in the slightest.
"Orange marmalade!" I think, but it is not the bittersweet English preserve, but that kind which seems to consist almost entirely of sugar and causes cavities just by looking at it.
I feel a little uneasy and hope for the promised green and spicy notes, which, however, do not want to materialize - instead, the sweetness continues to increase, and even the best of men crinkles his nose now.
At this point, it is clear: For the sake of cozy togetherness, I should better not apply "Stylessence."

A few hours later, the sweetness has retreated to a socially acceptable level, presenting "Stylessence" with a warm floral base, still bearing traces of orange, which gains a slightly more serious character from the wood, without significantly influencing the character of the fragrance.
It smells good, I admit, but it does not remotely have the recognition value that I once associated with the name and fragrances of Jil Sander - and so I am somewhat astonished to have to assign "Stylessence" to the same perfumer as the "Beloved" creations of the house Amouage, which seem to indicate a tremendous leap in development.
Perhaps he has simply grown older, the good Bernard Ellena?!

warm-hearted
On Sunday, I visited my mom - a day I always look forward to.
We are very similar.
What unites us is our deep love for animals - we pamper our dogs to the best of our abilities - and we are both scent enthusiasts.

She has gifted me many excellent fragrances.

And as soon as I entered her room, a pleasantly warm, slightly woody aroma greeted me, which I suspected was emanating from the old, beautiful furniture.

But during the welcoming hug, the woody note became more pronounced, intertwined with floral freesia and bright jasmine.
Cool neroli and delicate violet are also clearly noticeable.
But above all, the warm, inviting wood note hovers.

The fragrance perfectly emphasizes my mother's warm-hearted, sensual nature.
With a sure hand, she has chosen Stylessence for herself.

Although the fragrance exudes style and elegance, it is not distant, but soft and cuddly.
It creates closeness and possesses depth.
A good conversation companion during our harmonious time together.

As a farewell, I treated myself to a spray, taking a piece of my mom's personality home with me.

Essence with Style
I couldn't decide a few years ago.
"Style" or "Stylessence"? That's why I didn't get either. Now that I had to use a voucher, the decision was easier. And of course, the great offer that's currently available.

Stylessence fits perfectly with this cold weather. Spicy, slightly floral, sensual, and woody come to mind first.

Stylessence develops much better on my skin than described in some other comments. For me, it's a must-have in the colder season. Neither harsh nor masculine, neither sweet nor overpowering.

I am enveloped by traces of mild spice and floral softness. The flowers are nestled on warm wood, and a sensual soft musk rounds it all off.
I really like such scents, especially when they become powdery towards the end like this one. It's not exactly a room-filling fragrance, but it's also not shy.
Intense, but not loud. A very special perfume, yet always wearable. You only need a little to radiate sensual elegance. Men also like it on us women; compliments are included.
It's simply a scent with style for the woman with style.

I'm not a particular Jil Sander fan, but I had to get this off my chest. Just because you might not like some of her fragrances doesn't mean everything is bad just because Jil Sander is on the label.

Powdery Compliment Magnet
This is my first comment, so please don't be mad if I don't describe the scent SO skillfully. I'm doing my best :`D
For what feels like an eternity, I've been more of a background presence on parfumo. I enjoy spending a few hours reading and browsing until the duties of everyday life catch up with me.

What prompted me to write a comment about this particular fragrance?... Well, I had to realize today that it has been discontinued. :(
I really can't understand why, how, or for what reason. However, I know that it will soon be outrageously expensive, sold through various platforms.

Now to the scent:
Everything can be said about this perfume, but definitely not that it is floral or fruity. Orange blossom, jasmine, amber, cardamom, violet, and musk make this powdery composition a soft and cozy, dense blend that does not offend with its splendor and projection. On the contrary, the scent lingers on the skin and gently spreads around the wearer, so that it can only be enjoyed by those who come into very close contact with them.
Then you really do notice it! I myself smell it on me all day.
This is not a scent for women who try to provoke sex appeal with shrill sugary bombs, but rather for those who want to skillfully and delicately emphasize their femininity.
That doesn't mean it can't be seductive. Quite the opposite! I've had one or two people come closer to get a better whiff of it :D It is cozy... yes, already sensual.
I don't find it masculine... but I understand that some associate it with men's fragrances due to the spicy cardamom.
However, I can't imagine it on a man. Except for my own, after he had me in his arms. :)

So beautifully clean, classic, and elegant. The color of the bottle matches the scent, especially with the subtle pink lettering. This Jil has character with recognition value.

Even though Stylessence is not among my top 5 fragrances, I have received more compliments for this one than for any other scent. I work in the operating room and have to hold back a bit with my passion. However, this perfume is accepted and positively recognized. That says something...
I prefer to wear it in autumn and winter, as it does come off as quite powdery. Day or evening? It fits anytime!

I ordered a small stock for myself and am now also happy.
All's well that ends well.

The Essence...
Encounter:
Styleessence is something I have always wanted to have. It embodies something very feminine and sensual for me. Somehow the years have gone by, and now after almost 8 years, I remembered it again. A friend mentioned that her best friend only uses this fragrance! So I had to test it again...

Scent:
The scent is quite intense. A rather warm-woody-dry fragrance that doesn't come off too floral.
Still, for me, it is by no means "masculine," as some here write. On the contrary!
I also smell vanilla, even though it is not listed here. I definitely smell musk. That's exactly what I really like. It is indeed rather strong and has a high recognition value. Not a run-of-the-mill scent! Not for everyone; it is somehow a confident fragrance. You stand out... When I wear it, I feel like: "hey! Yes, I'm here... yes, exactly... it's me who smells so damn good" :D

Association:
I associate something sensual with the scent. It is more of an autumn-winter fragrance for me. I see myself in front of the fireplace in a mountain cabin with my boyfriend... of course on the bear skin... made of fake fur, of course :) Or on a romantic walk in the snow after a romantic dinner.

Longevity:
The longevity is unbelievably good for me. I used it this morning, and I can still smell it very strongly! I was even asked about it after a few hours. I sprayed it twice, and that’s enough...
It lasts until I take a shower... :D

Conclusion:
A rather intense fragrance that makes you stand out. It has a recognition value and radiates a certain warm, attractive aura. At the same time, it also has a loving aura, where you feel "at home" or simply comfortable. However, it is not a candidate that you should just order "blindly," as it is not an everyday scent. Therefore, you should test it. I would say it appeals to someone who likes stronger and vanilla scents that also contain musk, e.g., Coco Mademoiselle, or Le Premiere by Lolita Lempicka!

Elegant, bold, and not too stuffy. However, lovers of light and floral scents should be warned: This fragrance makes a strong statement.

Of the fragrances from the brand that are now over 10 years old, this is the most successful one from the early 21st century. Floral-woody, unique.

Woody and spicy like the scent of mahogany furniture. Warm and elegant. A hint of red. And the soft light of a candle in a cozy room.

Very sensual, very feminine... And I like this composition - why is this scent unjustly in the shadows?

Finest orange cream spiced with cardamom, violet plays in the background. Plus a light, bright woodiness. This is good, I'm surprised!

It's such a shame that this great fragrance was discontinued. I'm still looking for a
scent twin...or a re-release.
