Inexpensive oriental bomb
Inexpensive oriental bomb. Jovan has great portfolio in the industry with only few perfumes, one of which is Sex Appeal. This perfume is an 70's child (it's 1976 production originally) and has strong sharp woody spicy character.

The beginning is so peppery soft lavender with very strange nostalgic vibe that reminds nothing yet it drives me crazy to strain to emerge a retro memoir.

Anyhow, the second phase is on sandalwood and soft vegetal patchouli and stingy spices, cumin and anise probably. The very base encompasses soft sandal, anise, soft musk and rounded amber. A good perfume, at least it was so and I have so many good things with. So sad that such good choices go underrated by their cheap prices.

Schecky Schent...
Yesterday this fragrance was delivered to me, I wore it all yesterday and last night I chose to write this review, also at the time I was watching Diamonds are Forever and I realised it was one of the worst Bond films. Sean Connery is just picking up a pay cheque and Charles Gray played it soo camp it was comical; it was evident he was just having a laugh with the role.

Now…

I’m about to go on a rambling diatribe about Bond but there’s a segue; there always is.

Anyway I was reminded of how when you look back there’s always an awkward transition between periods where prevailing styles and cultures and the current emerging zeitgeist meet. Its very evident in the Bond films, as they’ve never been good at leading (apart from the first four) or being at the forefront and at copying the prevailing culture in popular cinema. Diamonds are Forever looks lost as the rise of the cineastes and counter culture had taken hold this guy in a tux looks like a sore thumb; and in this film Bond was like Frank Sinatra trying to fit in at Woodstock. There’s a scene where he’s in a casino in Vegas and he’s got a tux on and he looks like a twat amongst all the velour and polyester clad waddling cud-chewing morons.

This brings me to where I ended up; I went down a rabbit hole looking for a suitable image for this scent; and I fell into watching adverts for fragrances which led me to this beauty.

Sex Appeal has that peculiar 70s signature of carnation and a weird spice blend that just I know Tom Ford has tired to replicate and modernise (in some cases successfully). This smells like a fancy chemists, run by an aged lithario, a ‘smoothie’ in white lab coat. I grew up thinking Brut and Old Spice were bad or ‘naff’ because of the associations of them being a punchline to jokes, but I honestly don’t think they are that bad now. Sex Appeal is in that same class. I will be realistic though this is not a scent you could say “If this had been made by X it would sell for 100”

No. Nope not at all.

I bought this from Notino (UK) for £8.05. If this was made under any other brand; the best I could see would be possible double the price maybe £20. But that’ll be for the name of the designer alone.

I had been meaning to purchase a bottle of this for some time, as I have stated in the past that I will wear scents that compliment how I feel out the image I might have in my head that day. Some days where I feel like I need to show some chest hair, yeah, leave about five buttons undone on my shirt, whiten my smile, stuff a spare set of socks down the front of my flat fronted beige Farrah slacks, shine up those light brown loafers …slip on some Teddy Pendegrass, Kenny Loggins, The Commodores and Teena Marie on Spotify and walk with an extra thrust in my step.

I have a small collection of these scents that I save for those days that I will wear and personally enjoy.

This stuff will not appeal to guys in their 20s, it won’t appeal to some guys in their 30s. Shit some guys in their 40s, 50, and 60s. This is not for people who wear stuff ‘ironically’ it won’t work like that. If you wear it you will be wearing it for yourself. Yes it called ‘Sex Appeal’ but it will have zero affect on women. Women will not be drawn to it, women will not compliment this at all (some may hate it), some may think it’s ‘ok’…but for me that’s perfectly fine, I’m not wearing it for you sister. This is *all for me*. I don’t care if people snigger and laugh, I’m not going to wear this to a special occasion; if I wear this and happen to be outside amongst people I’m fine with that.

This is purely for your own enjoyment. I like that it’s unashamedly masculine, but in a slightly pathetic way. I like that it’s about as refined as a Full English, if Bleu de Chanel was an actor it would be Ryan Gosling in ‘The Notebook’ this scent would be Geoffrey Lewis in ‘*Every which way but loose*’. If released today; it would look like some pale imitation of an older fragrance…much like Diamonds are Forever everything about it looks dated and out of place, but it’s still part of greater canon.

Would I recommend it? nnnnnmmmm-yeaaaah, kinda, it’s not a fragrance that I would say you’d see stack up against the Sauvages, Bleu de Chanels and Le Male for the kind of appeal the young guys would want etc I would say don’t buy this expecting an uncovered gem that is going to have people clawing at you; it’s a nice scent for personal enjoyment and for certain gents who enjoy this great scent.

just remember ‘use it for good never for evil’

Jovan Sex Appeal for Men
Gents, do you tire of the endless line of unisex flankers that riddle the fragrance landscape today? Are you really looking to smell like a honey donut, a cup of cinnamon coffee or a basket of dried fruits!?

I will admit, many of the higher end unisex frags are very well blended (Tom Ford, Serge Lutens, CDG) and include upgraded ingredients. I love tobacco so Tobacco Vanille is on my shelf.

Although, these days I am feeling more and more the desire to strip away the fluff and get back to basics.

Jovan Sex Appeal for Men is all about the basics: spices, herbs, musk and patchouli. Unbelievably well blended and at

Take me now even if I stink, because otherwise I say wave, wave and goodbye....
My headline of course does not mean that one stinks if one sprays sex appeal on, unless one "dieselt" himself with it, yes then one ends up with my headline.
Sex appeal can be discreet if you want, but you do not have to, you can also give the 10 sprüher overkill and the people in the train have in the last car still something of it if you got on in front. So in sillage it lacks the Jovan really not!

Olfactory we move here in quite interesting realms, from the oriental spice bazaar we pilgrimage with Tom Selleck and He- Man (with or without loincloth) straight through the perfumery, where we have sprayed us briefly with Old Spice, Obsession and the dusty Patchouliduft down right in the corner where always these old fragrances are no longer interested in anyone, and go with the two lively girls who just tried to advise us so energetically in the swingers club.

So or so similarly I summarized times the statements to Sex Appeal :-)

On the whole, I can only say: Wow! Here Jovan has brought something, namely a fragrance that lives up to its name, and one of the few for which I got a compliment. So something attractive he must already have in itself.
At the beginning I hear quite strongly clove, clove and again clove, only when this has calmed down a bit, the spices come gradually to it, here the cinnamon joins relatively quickly, as well as cardamom and the sandalwood, which is present quite early. Initially, it reminds me of Old Spice, between the head and middle part, it then reminds me a bit of Obsession (women), but this impression then also subsides, because later the grounding patchouli comes to bear and Sex Appeal shows its independence.

Overall, it can be summarized: for its year of release a well-made fragrance, if perhaps a bit daring, but as you can see, successful to this day. What fascinates me most about the fragrance is the unbeatable P / L ratio, so much (good) fragrance for little money. Here is the damage at blind buy quickly estimated and if you do not like it, there is always a lover!

"What smells so great here?"
After calling Incense Oud a "dress fragrance" in my last review, here is one that is perhaps less suitable for that, although I would categorize it as such - but more for the evening in a more private setting.

It's important to know that I've applied very little today - 1 spray under my shirt - and I walk into my office and the questioning voice: "What smells so great here? Oh you!" sums it up.

Why to the point? Because as an "everyday dress fragrance" it would be more of a distraction and not accompany the situation and, of course, Incense Oud may have these light oriental facets (please read the review) but it doesn't trump or stand out so much and better emphasizes a "dressy everyday situation".

By the way:
Compliments are of secondary importance for me with a fragrance, if at all, it is important to me that I like a fragrance and these "panty dropper" stories I don't know - I found it interesting that someone told me that I would probably want to stay single because I was wearing Sir Irish Moss, I also thought to myself "Okay..." - Anyway, I think a compliment is a nice addition but not necessarily more.

Now I'll describe Sex Appeal - I find the overall picture very interesting - it contains a certain light animalism that flirts softly and creamily, plus a powdery note that is thematized very interestingly in combination with spicy accords, light approaches with an oriental touch. Finally, woody and sweetish additions, without becoming too sweet, rather a sweet background (very discreet & yet perceptible).

It's less about a presumption of competence, but more about a kind of exciting fragrance that may arouse fascination - and yet remains "dressy".

Perhaps it also works on other occasions, it certainly doesn't come across as unpleasant and it can certainly be worn by one or two people in everyday life, especially where you already know each other better - but I would choose Incense Oud for appropriate (rather reserved) appointments.

I also notice that, in my opinion, it creates an approachability or an invitation.
Great value for money, you get a lot for little money and with the year 1976 you can definitely call it a classic!

Many thanks for reading!

It's a spicy-woody (very spicy) that just blows me away! Undoubtedly, it refers to the 70s/80s, where macho fragrances were popular!
