Breathe and Feel Good

I have owned and own hardly any drugstore fragrances. Too generic, too boring, too often copies of other, more expensive scents, and often the effect is similar to the price asked, namely somehow cheap. One of the few exceptions was the original Jovan Musk Oil in screaming orange. And since I still have this in my collection (it must be the sixth or seventh bottle in about 15 years), I couldn't pass by the new Island Musk, and I'm glad I didn't. Because I have also added it to my collection - not because it is so special, because it is not - but because it is so harmonious and balanced. Because it is very soft, warm, and feminine. Because it has the same stunningly beautiful musk note as the original. Because a fragrance with lily of the valley, gardenia, and jasmine in the heart note can never fail with me. Because it doesn't come across as too polished, but dares at least a little with the intense citrus/bergamot note in the top.

No, Island Musk may not be anything special, but for me personally, it is an absolute feel-good fragrance. For some reason, the woods get lost on me, and the scent is simply floral-citrusy with a distinct but not too intense sweetness and strong, sunny radiance. As I said: Just breathe and feel good!

Citrusy-fresh at the start, lily of the valley and gardenia in the heart... - somehow I even smell coconut, although it's not listed here. Very unremarkable, but wonderfully relaxed and calming - that's how I perceive this drugstore scent. "Musk" can only be detected in the background and reminds me in the drydown of freshly washed laundry. At the price of 8 euros, it's a carefree pleasure without fruit salad associations. By the way, it resembles the scent "Island Fantasy" by Britney Spears.

Floral -Aqua-rell

I pondered for a while what I find so special about Island Musk. It's not just because I like gardenias. In the statement, I called it watery, and that should be taken literally. What no aquatics have ever really achieved is accomplished by this fragrance - it actually smells like fresh water. Little citrus notes, gardenia, and a hint of lily of the valley are splashing in the cool water and performing some lovely synchronized swimming figures before they cuddle up in their soft musk beach towels. I have no idea how Jovan managed to create this scent impression, but I find it very refreshing and invigorating. Although the fragrance is not designed as a refresher at all, it remains totally relaxed, softly floral, and ultimately musky-fluffy. A little break from the bottle for a few euros. I think there's nothing to complain about.
I'm curious to see how the sillage of this spray vacation works. Will colleagues in the office suddenly pull out their swim caps from their briefcases while Hawaiian patterns appear on their suits?

Gentle Freshness

Once again in the supermarket and Jôvan fragrances on sale. Since I accidentally became a fan of Jôvan scents and had been eyeing this fragrance for a while, it quickly went into the shopping cart. The mentioned supermarket has a large drugstore section with numerous branded fragrances. The bottle is a cool turquoise and the scent is cool and fresh. But not too fresh. It starts off fresh and fruity with lemon and peach. A good mix that is neither too citrusy nor too sweet. Shortly after, gardenia, jasmine, and lily of the valley join in, making the scent more floral. In the dry down, it becomes a bit bitter, rounded off with musk. The latter gives the fragrance a velvety warmth without being stuffy. Longevity for me is 4-5 hours. Despite the name musk, it is by no means a heavy or stuffy scent, but rather a floral fresh fragrance for summer. Not overpowering, but also not too subtle.

Musk extreme... Or whatever

I exchanged the fragrance and was really looking forward to it! I almost always like scents with gardenia!
After the German postal service allegedly went on strike, it took 3 weeks for the long-awaited package to arrive.
Finally here...! Eagerly ripped open and sprayed...
It can't get much worse, at least for me!
Unfortunately, I cannot agree at all with the previous commentators. The worst case has arrived for me with Island Musk.
I've rarely encountered something so synthetically piercing to the nose... Phew
To me, it initially smells strongly like a mix of laundry detergent and ammonia-containing hair dye, with a hint of musk fabric softener.
After about 2 hours, this synthetic piercing scent subsides a bit and it becomes somewhat more like fabric softener.
Still unbearable for me. I feel neither a vacation vibe nor any associations with fresh laundry. And even my partner just shook his head when I held my wrist under his nose.
Please, all those who own and love Island Musk, don't be mad!
