Gold Knight
Notes: Bergamot, Cinnamon, Anise, Honey, Vanilla, and Patchouli

Perfumer: Pascal Gaurin

Gold Knight opens with Bergamot and Cinnamon, I also get an menthol vibe in the opening which goes away quickly. The major of this fragrance "Honey" comes oozing in and takes over the other notes combined with Anise and Vanilla, these 2 notes amp up the sweetness even more. Finally Patchouli in the drydown, the notes of Patchouli is toned down and blended perfectly along with Honey, you are still able to detect the earthy nuances of Patchouli and this controls the sweetness of this fragrance, if that makes sense ????. Overall a sexy and seductive scent which will stay with you throughout the day.

Under The Armor of The Gold Knight
Rich, delectable honey slathered over vanilla beans and sprinkled sparsely with anise. No matter how deep we get into this composition, the focal point will always be honey but it evolves beautifully. All of the animalic facets that honey often provides are vacant here, but in its place is a somewhat herbaceous sweetness that comes off very natural. Most reviewers have not acknowledged the bergamot. While it is not a key note here, it does play an important role when it comes to contrast. The bergamot is a dim light that gradually brightens the longer it wears. There is also a not so obvious patchouli that whispers in the background. I will not speak of redundancies between Gold Knight and Back To Black, because while they both involve honey they are not at all the same fragrance. Back To Black is the dark knight with an unapologetic presence. Gold Knight is kinder, brighter and softer to my nose. Brothers, with much in common but enough differences that they stand apart. The Cain & Abel of the fragrance world. Gold Knight (Abel) is sadly discontinued, while Back To Black is still available at specific retailers.

Anisic hay, honey, and patchouli
The movements to Gold Knight could be described like a tempo instruction for a piano player – honey, honey, patch, anise, honey, patch, patch, hay! The strands of the music seem very separate at first - there is a brief moment at the start when all you smell is a whipped honey product, pale and moussey, and the next all you can smell is the pungent mustiness of a patchouli so earthy you suspect it comes decked out with a full 1970s bush. The minty anise flips the switch here, drawing out the booze and the rich, immortelle-like grassiness of the patch, and roughing up the honey with its weird medicinal edge.

I am not sure about the anise, to be honest, at least not at first. It almost smells too spicy, like those really strong varieties of mint or basil that taste like Scandinavian licorice. There is also a strong aftershavey undertone to it for the first hour, which puts me off. But eventually it mellows out into an aromatic, anisic whole – a grassy patchouli, with hints of dark chocolate, smelling for all we know like tobacco.

For a honey-themed fragrance from the same brand that did Back to Black, I am surprised (and encouraged) by the absence of baby powder and cheap sweets. The honey remains strongly present throughout, but there’s not a hint of either syrup or dried saliva; it is a rich but light and true take on the note. That anise is key to everything. It makes everything smell like the aromatic undergrowth along a meadow, half-green, half-burnt gold. Gold Knight is an aromatic, quite dark or roughened patchouli, against which the ‘ochre’ notes of hay, honey, and minty herbs flicker like sudden shafts of sunlight. It is quite a simple, monolithic smell until you put your nose directly up against your skin and you smell a golden liqueur, like a shot of mead.

A Knight Who Likes Honey & Licorice and Takes the Scent to Work.
So far only one comment, very different statements... Rating is quite okay but not super good....
What should one do with that? Nothing at all. Just look (or better said, not remind oneself) and try the scent.

After 3 days of training, I had to briefly visit the local perfume flagship in the pretty sleepy but very expensive shop-filled Baden-Baden at least at the end. Without a specific goal, just to look and smell.
I actually wanted to sniff "Straight To Heaven Extreme," but it wasn't available. So Gold Knight ended up on the strip. Quite sweet, not really my target... "That will become a bit less sweet soon." Strip set aside, sniffed something else. Picked up the strip again. Hmm, interesting. Must go on the skin. Said and done, waited a bit, bought on 1/2 risk, as it was still quite sweet. After some time, I was pleased with my good purchase, as I really like it.

Yes, it starts sweet. Honey? Yes, maybe, could also be beeswax, but that is related. The vanilla blends with it and doesn't stand out alone. In the background, however, there is more, and that gets exciting.
The anise note or as written here a few times, licorice, is indeed noticeable, but subtle and also integrated.
After a while, the prominent sweetness fades and the sillage decreases significantly. I even find it rather subtle for a relatively sweet scent. But what is most interesting to me is the overall impression of the fragrance that reveals itself after about 30 minutes. A very non-aggressive and non-sticky sweetness, for me more beeswax than honey, lies on a soft but quite dry bed. Patchouli is probably responsible for that, but I am uncertain about the classification of the base. I think I smell a bit of tobacco and even thought of very fine leather (not the usually rather strong direction of the well-known leather scents). The brain clearly points to the role of patchouli, but the heart says it is something else. Sometimes it smells like soft wood, then tobacco (flower), and sometimes fine leather. Maybe the anise/licorice part also plays a role in the whole that one doesn't directly notice? In any case, everything works very harmoniously, softly, and pleasantly.
This harmonious and not entirely easy-to-classify overall impression lasts quite long, about 6 hours. Then mainly the beeswax takes over, and the scent loses some complexity.

For me, Gold Knight is a positive surprise. The sweetness appears very universally acceptable to me and is wonderfully embedded in the base. A sweet scent that I will definitely wear to work because it is noticeable but doesn't fill the room. And probably won't clash either. I felt somewhat reminded of "Field Notes From Paris," which I also like. There, beeswax, tonka, and tobacco play the main roles on patchouli, but it somehow feels completely different despite the relationship. I should put that back in the cart at the next opportunity...

Gold Knight also for women:-)
Great, very warm and cozy scent that has everything a distinctive fragrance needs. It has that special something that piques curiosity and makes you want to sniff it a second and third time, because it feels familiar yet is newly combined and not immediately recognizable or overpowering. For me, it's a scent that fits nicely with a man in cool jeans, a casual shirt, and a knitted scarf, paired with rugged boots. A man with whom you want to spend the evening in a cozy cabin by the fire, enjoying hot chocolate or tea, and a delicious heavy red wine. However, I also see it on a suit-wearing man, as it has an elegant quality and a fragrance can also be contrasting/create tension.
For me, it's a great scent also for confident women. The honey and vanilla emphasize the feminine side while simultaneously having something powerful and cheerful from the bergamot.

Honey, cinnamon and vanilla with a spicy-animal note reminiscent of tobacco. This honey-rich spice makes the fragrance a bit too heavy.

My favourite Kilian by far. Sweet, intoxicating, lush. This stuff jumps off my skin for hours (12+ easily). Criminally underrated.

One-two of honey & star anise give Gold Knight a realistic honeycomb smell. The patchouli is easy-to-spot on-skin (base note). Fairly light.

This is a honey explosion right in your face. It's like someone made a natural honey mask, spread all over the face, and added star anise.

Unsweetened honey, bitter vanilla, dry bergamot and a LOT of patchouli. A little boring and straight-edged for me, but its good. 8/10

A slightly earthy, yet smooth and airy powdery/sweet floriental, balanced by an intense warm-spicy opening. Nice evolution, yet lacks depth.

Heavy honey with a very sharp, sour anise note. From time to time you can catch a whiff of that animalic scent.
