Doesn't align with my vision for the product
Continuing with the 2026 coverage, I had some fairly different expectations for Kilian's latest Her Majesty as I had seen marketing material that indicated this scent was a fruity chypre fragrance. And somehow, I don't get anything fruity nor chypre.
In an unexpected twist, the scent opens very woody. And I must admit, this doesn't smell like Kilian - I was initially thinking of brands like Le Labo, Byredo, Diptyque and Ex Nihilo. In the top, I predominantly get an aromatic-fresh sandalwood aroma, opposed by powdery touches and light spiciness. Some have described the woodiness as being paper-like and that is something I can get behind, it reminds me of the way some rose scents utilize papyrus as a base note. On-skin, I feel like the scent initially features a soapy-smelling white musk, giving a light nod to the idea that it may actually end up as a chypre, but it never really takes any steps in that direction thereafter. In the subsequent initial dry-down, the rose really begins to dominate and the general accord structure is light-fresh rose built around on an aromatic woody base, making me think of products like Byredo's Rose of No Man's Land Eau de Parfum and Diptyque's Eau Rose Eau de Toilette.
Relative to the actually listed notes and the voted-for accords, I think that description is largely in the ballpark of what you actually get with Her Majesty. I would not call this a sweet-fruity fragrance, instead opting to point to the floral-woody-fresh accords first and powdery as a potential 4th accord. The rose and the listed cedarwood (which I believed was sandalwood) are the main two notes throughout and in terms of utility, this is an inoffensive women's daily and/or office fragrance that is primarily targeting a spring-summer use case. I see several statements (from what I assume are beginners) making comparisons to various versions of PDM's hero franchise Delina Eau de Parfum and I'm very much puzzled by such comps. Even if I give those comps the benefit of the doubt and assume that they're comping to Delina La Rosée, I feel that the rose in Her Majesty doesn't have the same fresh-dewy-watery structure and there's no fruitiness (La Rosée features pear) in any phase either.
As a whole, the product has two obvious weaknesses (value and uniqueness) with performance being average to slightly below. What felt like a very weak open does actually later warp into a soft sillage, worthy of a 3/10. Having gone through the full wear, I'd say the longevity is slightly above the median (7-8 hours, rated 6/10) with most of the scent's lasting power driven by the on-skin presence of the rose. Relative to other fresh fragrances in Kilian's catalogue, I find the execution of the scent quite impressive as no sharp edges pop out at any point of the wearing experience. Valuation at €260/50ml is poor (3/10) since the overall package is weak. I believe this fragrance would've generated strong interest if it was priced on-par with I Don't Need a Prince by My Side to Be a Princess at €145/50ml. All-in-all, I wouldn't call myself underwhelmed, but I'm also not exactly impressed - as a product, Her Majesty is somewhere in the average to slightly above category and since I'm not the core demographic for it, this 10ml is likely moving on.
