Simple
Is the perfume simple? Yes, but that's not a negative thing, it just means it's a common one. It is aquatic with aromatic, brackish, ozonic and functional characteristics.

The opening reminds common deodorants as if it were the smell of things that we feel in our day to day. The perfume is initially a somewhat spicy mix, with the presence of coriander and cardamom.

The transition to drying gradually incorporates rhubarb with lily of the valley and a slightly spongy oak moss. Added to this is a good dose of ambroxan, which is popular with the general public. Drying has an herbal aromatic freshness that reminds me of Cipresso di Toscana.

In my opinion the fragrance is a very trivial aromatic with a smell that reminds me of deodorants and washing powder. It's not exactly an unpleasant aroma, but with this proposal there are many perfumes that do the trick at a much lower cost. If you ask me what perfume it looks like I would say it resembles: Legend and Percival.

Due to its more relaxed vibe, I think it is a fragrance for hot climates (spring/summer). I find it ideal to be used in everyday life with casual clothes. The fixation on my skin lasts around 8 hours and the projection is average. The scent is light, soft, fresh, luminous, masculine, casual, youthful and ordinary.

Žubrowka on the Rocks? (Sidonie Lancesseur, 2014)
Scentrack: Richard Cheese – Gin and Juice

Good vodka is odorless and devoid of any taste, thus in my opinion, creating a vodka-based fragrance is a challenging task. One has to recreate the essence of this East European drink without obvious ethanol smell that consumers rate as cheap. It seems, the perfumer solved this problem by introducing some spicy and herbal element to the composition. Vodka on the Rocks opens with the pale whiteness of aldehydes accompanied by some pepper, strong coriander and herbal cardamom. The initial blast tenders gradually to washed flowers accord, delicate by design yet strong in performance. This fresh, futuristic bouquet is paired to very nice rhubarb note. All the interplay notes morphs to gray base of Ambroxan and something similar to white musk, which gradually lose their intensity. Does Vodka on the Rocks remind me of real vodka? Yes, but just on one brand. Polish vodka Žubrowka, infused with bison grass, and very distinct herbal qualities, which was prohibited by the FDA until 2010 due to its coumarin content. Additionally, the herbal aspects of this composition reminds of several G&T-inspired fragrances. The performance of the composition is average (5-7 hours) with moderate sillage.
In conclusion, Vodka on the Rocks, is a solid recreation of vodka atmosphere. However, it lacks distinctiveness of the other By Kilian offerings. Personally, it is not my cup of tea, but one who wishes to wear a fresh herbal/alcohol combo could appreciate this fragrance even more. Still, the main question remains - is it proper to drink vodka with ice?

Missed potential
I was actually excited when this scent was announced. The theme was intriguing (Vodka on the Rocks). I saw the interview Mr. Hennessy did about this scent and he said he was trying to achieve the feeling of vodka (which has no scent) being chilled by ice. Sounds great so far right? How was he going to achieve this feat? The idea was to use "cooling" spices (cardamom being a big player in this one) to create that illusion for your olfactive senses. I was on board totally. Wound up blind buying this one actually as a result. Time to find out if the "blind buy" roulette came back to bite me in the end.

The Smell: You look at the note breakdown after watching that interview and you're expecting magic right? True to his word, cardamom was the major player in this one and, if you close your eyes while smelling it, you can trick yourself into seeing the illusion of a "cooling effect." We have "the rocks" part of the title covered. The thing is this fragrance gave me another smell. One that isn't on the note breakdown but probably would have been more effective at achieving that cooling effect - eucalyptus. Every time I smell this scent now, I cannot get that smell out of my head even though I know it's the illusion created by the spices. The florals are there to help tone the spices down a bit and smooth the fragrance out but when I sniff it as I write this, it actually stings the nose a bit. Instead of providing an artistic, fun illusion, it's straight up assault on my olfactory nerve. Coriander, I suspect, is the guilty party here. It's sad because I was expecting the magic but I feel like the "illusion" was ultimately dispersed and left in its place was disappointment. It's also very linear and doesn't change much.
Rating: 5/10

Projection: Not the best, not the worst. The first 3 hours of wearing it, it was fairly decent. After that, it's a skin scent. I own two other by Kilian scents and neither one of them are projection beasts but they linger for a very long time. This one lingers but I feel like it just disappears after 6-8 hours. Might be my skin but it even left my clothing around the same time as well. Kilian even says most of his scents are meant to draw people closer and I agree that this should be the goal. You just better hope it happens within that 3-5 hour mark.
Rating: 6/10

Price: On luckyscent (where I get most of my niche stuff), it's $240 USD for 50 mL ($4.80 per mL). Not terrible but the price tag doesn't match what you ultimately pay for when you get this fragrance.
Rating: 4/10

Versatility: I can see how this can work in a variety of scenarios. Dates, special occasions, or just going to have a good time are all viable options here. The problem for me was that it was very cloying in warm weather. The spices felt like they were dialed up and I was in a rush to scrub it off of me. Cooler weather was where this really shined for me. I've worn it to work and class and it was not ideal. Not saying it doesn't work but it's not the best scenario for me.
Rating: 8/10

Final Rating: 5.8/10. When I look back at my original review on this, I was a bit more generous on the scent because I held out hope that there was something I was missing. There had to be a mistake with my nose or something. The more I wore it, the more rigid my belief was that this fragrance is just simple and missed the mark on what it tried to achieve in my opinion. Interesting concept but the execution was lacking something. Definitely worth a sample but I can't say that I'd buy it again. I'm a fan of several by Kilian scents and I have a ton of samples from them. I've learned my lesson on blind buying and will test those samples 'til the last drop. Cheers.

NOT MY CUP OF... HMMMM... VODKA?
It opens with an enormous blast of ambroxan and aldehydes, sharp and bold, immediately followed by the unmistakable tang of alcohol. As it settles, it dries down to a warm, spicy, and woody base, with a skin-like effect that feels incredibly intimate.

The scent is super peppery, with a strong coriander presence that adds an extra layer of spice. This fragrance is undeniably masculine, exuding that quintessential "men's cologne" vibe.

It's perfect for a casual, everyday wear. However, it's just not my thing. Not my cup of tea... I mean... not my cup of vodka!

What kind of vodka is it?
Well, the question which vodka it is now is difficult to answer. It is not a clear water like "Belvedere" or "Grey Goose", it is also not a flowery fruity like "Carnival" or "Ciroc". One thing is clear: it is pure, noble and tells a story. So it's not a cheap vodka and that would be outrageous at this price. In fact, I don't think it's a vodka at all, but rather a vodka-based macerated gin. So let's take a bottle of Beluga Vodka as a base and tip it into a kettle. At the beginning it smells fine like a bouquet garni consisting of power giving coriander and sweet-bitter seductive cardamom. I would even say that a few leaves of lovage have sneaked in to add their unique scent to this gin. Gradually a rose joins in, floating singly on this pot while the bouquet garni finds itself at the bottom of the cauldron. Oh it seems we forgot a ladle for stirring and occasional testing. Well the former we can fortunately remedy with the rhubarb growing there among the lilies of the valley. So we take a thick stick to stir and when we break off the stick the white floral scent of the lily of the valley around it rises to our noses. So why not, it certainly won't hurt. And yes very well, they did the drink good they give the gin a soft fluffiness and a nice green note. The stirrer aka rhubarb is just left in the kettle. And overnight this maceration just stays outside in this beautiful garden. Unfortunately, it storms over night and it breaks a small moss-covered branch off and lands in the pot. The pot spills over and so does the single beautiful rose blossom that was floating on top. The next morning we want to taste our mazeriertrn gin and realize, the rhubarb was possibly a little too long in it, because the gin took towards the end of a slightly sweet fruity note is embedded in all the herbs and earthy notes. But in itself, the taste is still nice subtle purist, after all, it pulled only one night. Tastes it does all times, you could well make a light gentle Moscow Mule abwandlung with 8cl each Bundabergs Blood Orange Brew and Ginger Beer, 2 cl Yuzu juice and 6cl of this macerated "Vodka, served on the Rocks".
Cheers!

Feels like an aquatic gin instead of a vodka. Not bad, but it’s for my husband, not me. I gave it to him.

Very expensive perfume for what it offers. There are already several alternatives to this scent (such as Fierce or Legend).

Opens aromatic, little green, dries plain ambroxan. Bad performance. Some comparability to PDM's Percival in pyramid, but different product.
