She's a rose thinking serious things in silence
L'Artisan Abyssae is exciting for me in that I do believe I have found another rose that I can tolerate. The camphoraceous aspect of the eucalyptus reigns in that effusive, extravagant jamminess of the rose and lends a quality that while not antiseptic, feels in some way discreet and brooks no frivolity, while the cashmeran enshrouds it in shadowy, softly balsamic woods. It's a scent that is still and quiet but a tick shy of calming...there is something vaguely unsettling about it. I keep coming back to the name, "Abyssae," which to me, sounds like it could be another mystically terrifying witch-mother from Dario Argento's Giallo thrillers. There was Suspiriorum, Terenbrarum, and Lacrymarum. Abyssae adds to the ancient triumvirate but instead of joining in on their esoteric attempt sto rule the world, Abyssae's thing is just sitting around in arcane solitude while her sisters wreak havoc. She's reserved, she's dignified, she's not interested in an invite to your stupid gender reveal party. She's a rose thinking serious things in silence.

A Garden Above the Abyss
I was promised the abyss, the mystery of the depths, a dive into the saline darkness… and here I am, standing on a sunlit cliff, surrounded by wild grasses. Abyssae is far from being a marine chasm; it’s bathed in light, closer to Mediterranean breezes than the unfathomable depths.

Its sillage? A wild garden swaying in the breeze, where aromatic plants dance under the sun. Far from the oppression of the ocean’s depths, it breathes freedom and space, with an unexpected clarity.

A beautiful illusion, certainly, but an illusion all the same.

Twin Peaks Blue Rose.
THIS is David Lynch's Blue Rose. She is deep, mysterious, veiled in a camphorous green haze, this woody rose has thorns, no sweetness, and demands your respect.

Abyssae is a scent that requires darker, elegant cold weather outfits. The camphor note is soothing, patrician, nothing cheap or medicinal here. One of the more distinctive, unusual rose scents out there that offers a different interpretation of the flower.

I have a pretty serious crush on L'Artisan Parfumeur and find it hard to decide which of their perfumes to splurge on, but the moment I sampled 33 Abyssae, I knew it would come home with me.

PS-How in the heck of hecks is this in any way similar to Nuit de Sable?! Some of the suggestions for similarities need to be seriously checked and taken with a HUUUUGE grain of salt. I have both fragrances, tried them side by side, just on the off chance that I missed something, and NOPE! Please see an ENT, get your nose checked, these are not just like apples and oranges, but like not even the same category, like comparing subway cars to lipstick. And it's not just this perfume. I noticed these weird, out of left-field suggestions on many perfumes in "Similar" boxes. I think maybe some of the ones that get too many thumbs down should just disappear from the suggestions box.

Marine scent without guts nor glory
a purely marine fragrance at the beginning. Rose vibes are present but are quite anonymous. I mean, they are discreet and do not annoy. I perceive a kind of roundness, it is pleasant and unisex (perhaps half a notch towards male leaning).
I was looking for a camphor-y perfume that would give me the sensation of those refreshing herbal candies and I found it with Vapeur Blanche, but it is saldy too light and intimate. Some had recommended Abyssae 33.
It is not bad though, but it is not what I'm looking for. I will certainly enjoy this decant but my search for a non-skin scent balsamic perfume continues :-)

A painting under the sea
It is quite irrefutable in modern perfumery not to be influenced by the name and the bottle when perceiving sensations and notes in a fragrance. And this is just one more case.

It's the typical perfume that does not attract you by its notes, which unfortunately follows the trend of declaring only three or four, dictated by a marketing that I still dont understand, as we all know that it is quite difficult to make a perfume that smells like a perfume with less than 50 ingredients.

The rose? Yes i detect it! But only because I have seen it, and it smells like a rose submerged in the abysses in a garden of underwater plants.

I don't know how they've made it, but coming from this house it doesn't surprise me, to create an olfactory painting that evokes a garden on the seabed, where hidden nature blooms and where an aquatic breeze transports all the aromas of its flora growing on a sunken wood ship.

Well-deserved award as best niche fragrance of 2023 by the Fragrance Foundation.
The bottle, beautiful!
The price? Too expensive for me. Luckily I found a bargain.

If you are looking for a room filler or an attention grabber perfume this might not be your choice, however if you use perfumes to live sensations and feelings, and if you are looking for art in perfumery, try it and enjoy it.

33 minutes of applause, Daphne

Like someone wearing Eau Rose Eau de Parfum, chewing menthol gum, blowing kisses at you. Dries woodier and firmer. Bizarre.

The rose and eucalyptus are in balance. It smells fresh, jammy and camphorous. The drydown is soft and warm.

Nice but a little minty. Smells a little like cleaner, but it’s refreshing also and clean.

Fresh and young roses are melancholic in the cold and dark embrace of eucalypt. It's a weird combination of fresh and noire vibes.

Medicinal green rose, and dry concrete. Spa scent adjacent but spare not plush. A heat shimmer on a country road.

A surprising favorite of the collection, this captures something oceanic without aquatic notes. Reminds me of visiting the Australian coast.
