Nature Boy with "Umbrella, Charm, and Melon"
Since there are hardly any comprehensive reviews yet and I really like the perfume, here are a few backgrounds and impressions. L'Occitane. What lies behind this name?
A little can already be suspected from the small special shop in the old town of Regensburg, where my wife and I spontaneously purchased it. Unique decorative items, dreamy garden furniture, wooden shelves with natural care products (including four men's fragrances from this brand), all skillfully arranged and displayed. A friendly older saleswoman - a woman with a strong French accent who hails from near Occitan and grew up there. All in all, a classic, as you can see.
What has left a very favorable impression on me is the uniqueness of L'Occitane's care products. A combination of natural ingredients, with a social and ecological commitment. As I later found out, it all started with rosemary and lavender oil. Olivier Baussan, the founder of the cosmetics company L'Occitane, represents a strict philosophy of fair wages, nature conservation, and naturalness.
So far, so good. What can be said about the scent itself? If you continue reading now, you will have to make do with my humble opinion and feelings. I am by no means an expert on fragrances, but I have a great love for them. My wife sometimes laughs at me or shakes her head with a grin.
To begin with, I have tested all four men's fragrances. Not just in the store. On four different body parts outside the shop as well. Impulse buys are unwise, I have already had to learn...
For me personally, the base note is always the most important, after all, it is what you identify with in the long run. And that's why I got it two hours later, much to the delight of the classicist at the counter.
I also extensively tested the perfume at work. Not in the office, but in the workshop. Although it is definitely office-appropriate. No intrusive sillage with medium to good longevity.
As already hinted in my headline, this scent skillfully combines naturalness and refined grooming. A gentleman lumberjack. Whether in a suit or a checkered shirt. It fits! In my opinion, very masculine. Rather cool than warm. More refreshing than cozy. More about movement than standing still. It has something natural that I greatly appreciate.
Honestly, I love olives. I know how they taste. Salty. We even own an olive high-stem tree. Just rubbed the leaf, bent it, and smelled it. None of this reminds me of the scent. I don't know how eucalyptus smells. It's a shame we don't have this trendy plant. I would have loved to play Quala, also bent it, and bitten into it. However, I imagine the smell to be more like that. A "different," slightly ethereal note. Not like mountain pine or sauna infusion! Or just bathed. Also not really like freshly mowed grass. But definitely a little in that direction. Also a tiny bit of thuja hedge. Very slightly sweet and resinous. A little mentholated/leathery/earthy. Not much of that, but yes.
A bit of forest floor, a bit of camping site smell in the south. I would buy it again! Gets a solid 9 from me.
If anyone would like to test it - don't hesitate to ask. I happily trade a sample for favorite scents of all kinds!
