Papillon de Nuit Lvnea

Another beautiful one from Lvnea; I'm not at all a palo santo fan, as it's often very headache-inducing for me (not that much in perfumery, but a lot when burnt), but here it mixes deliciously with ambrette and white flowers (slightly narcotic, not very much so but definitely not too sweet), and it turns into something dusty yet creamy...
I do agree there's something going on that reminds me of turpentine as well, but it's a lovely blend overall. As a night owl, and as I'm drawn to everything that belongs to night, I can't help but love this one. It's going immediately into the next full to purchase, along with Dagger Moon and Tasseomancy it makes into my top three Lvnea ever.

Another masterpiece from LVNEA. Papillon de Nuit lives in the same realm as Les Lunatiques, in that it is cool, mysterious, and strange. It has a slightly sharp metallic thing that I believe comes from the elemi (a note that the brand describes as "bright"). Despite this, the overall feel is soft and delicate. I have a hard time picking out the individual notes, but I think the woody facets are the most prominent. It does have a sort of creamy thing going on, but not in a floral or lactonic way. Softly iridescent, like the surface of a pearl.

Papillon de Nuit manages to be weird and unique, but not offputting. I can't think of anything that smells remotely similar to this. This was made for those of us who are guided by the moon. It makes me feel suspended in both space and time, like a fluttering moth on a quiet night. An underrated hidden gem from LVNEA.

This is dreamy and kind of yummy at the same time, not in a true gourmand way but the creamy sandalwood, paired with light balsamic resins and a touch of mintiness made me think of liquorish at first sniff, witch was a pleasant surprise :)
Other then my first impression this is truly comforting with skin like ambrette, the light sent of white flowers and the hug of the most beautiful palo santo i have smelled.
This is a beautiful creation, gives off a sense of purity and fuzziness but maintaining a stern and untouchable quality, almost holly.

The opening palo santo is bold and round, but it has a strong and scratchy soapiness to its white glow. The copal comes off slightly harsh and bitter, like a caustic disinfectant. In opposition, a dirty and scalp-like indolic quality lurks somewhat subtly in the shadows of the palo santo glow. I’m suspicious of some ylang ylang being at play here and I’m not sure that I’m happy about it. There’s a faint nutty quality and an extremely luscious creaminess to the whole thing.

The opening is quite challenging for me, but the dry down ends up being a lovely showcase of palo santo. The indole starts to settle down after about half an hour, and there’s a sort of vanillic and somewhat bubblegummy white floral quality that replaces it. The palo santo stays creamy while seeming to glow from a minty or eucalyptus-like facet in the copal. It’s like breathing in a sweet and soothing palo santo while sucking on a creamy, vanilla breathmint.

As the floral notes fade, there’s a period in which a dustier, baby powder quality develops. It seems to disperse softly into the silky smooth, creamy, woody glow, and then slowly fades away completely, leaving the palo santo as the last noticeable note. The longevity on this seems pretty average for an oil, but it seems to last quite well on clothing that it has transferred onto.

Breathtakingly sharp, envelopingly creamy. Wood bleached by moonlight. You can imagine a palo santo stick lying in a bed of white flowers. To me it has an inviting, dizzying quality... and not just because it's my girlfriend's favorite.

I really like the oil application. The scent comes through clearly, staying close to the wearer but strong in their proximity, and it lasts plenty long.

Fun fact, I spoke to the perfumer at her store in Montréal and she told me it's made with the fruit of the palo santo, not the wood. This way, they aren't harming trees.
