Pretty, but a bit shallow

This fragrance is really lovely and complex, but only for a moment, at least on me. Right away, you get the bright, green, and mineral notes. I can’t say I pick up much if any kelp or sea salt. It’s very fresh, undeniably aquatic, and I wish that held on longer. Instead, immediately upon drying down it settles into a (still aquatic) white floral which is where it stays for me. And it does stay! With zero moisturizer, layering, or reapplying, this lasted around five hours and transferred a good deal onto my sleeve, where it held on even longer. I could easily see this lasting all day with some basic tricks to improve performance. It is the softer, more feminine sibling to Aesop’s Karst.

Gothic mermaid scent

This was the first perfume where I could ~actually~ smell the salt! To me, it smells like sea water hitting the black rocks on a volcanic beach, this is a very well done marine fragrance. Also, eucalyptus is actually not offensive here at all, and I normally cannot stand eucalyptus scent. This scent really lives up to a gothic mermaid image. It smells absolutely gorgeous and develops beautifully with time. Rose and labdanum are very, very smooth in the drydown. The salt, petrichor and seaweed never really let go, they are present on my skin throughout the wear. Also, I have tried most of Heretic scents, and this one lasts much longer than most of their scents. It lasts me up to 12 hours!

The Addams Family Goes to Maui

Opens with a hint of citrus and a surprisingly smooth eucalyptus, backed by a pleasant funk (the way a real beach can smell a little funky).

I was a bit wary of the jasmine and rose overpowering the heart and turning the whole thing into a boring flowers-at-the-beach fragrance, but the florals are kept in check by a dash of mildly smoky sea salt and a light atmospheric sweetness (almost ozonic) which is eventually joined by a mineral base.

This is absolutely the sister scent to my beloved Nosferatu Eau de Parfum , but instead of lounging in a limestone crypt full of lilacs, you’re lounging at the beach on a moonless night.

Black Salt is certainly more approachable and (slightly) warmer than Nosferatu though, so if mausoleums aren’t your thing but you think you might be into a Morticia-and-Gomez-on-vacation vibe, give this a try.

Projection is moderate, and while Heretic fragrances often get a bit of flack for being short lived, this lasts a solid 8+ hours on my skin. Gender? What gender? You’re a beach goth, who cares.
