Not entirely vetiver, but close
Vetiver as a note has its ups and downs with me. Sometimes I'm intrigued by the way it smells, other times, I find it too dry and a little bitter. Vetyver 46 has managed to encompass every aspect of what I consider perfection in a fragrance.

This scent is surprisingly fresh, a little damp, but also smokey. The pepper adds to its invigorating punch, however the vetiver, cedar and guaiac woods are what keeps this fragrance rich, masculine and exotic.

The typical Le Labo incense accord is also found in Vetyver 46, however its done in such a way that you don't feel like a walking temple. There is only the subtlest hint of sweetness in this fragrance, found in the form of powder towards the drydown.

To be honest, Vetyver 46 isn't a true representation of vetiver itself, it's more of a spiced woods and incense fragrance. It tries to incorporate the qualities of vetiver, however it misses the point.

Because this fragrance isn't so dry, green and grassy, it's possibly the reason why I enjoyed this so much. Although I will agree with its masculine nature, I'll say that it is wearable for women too.

The lasting power and sillage are extraordinarily good, but I wouldn't expect anything less from Le Labo. Once again Le Labo has presented a fragrance that isn't exactly what is listed on the bottle, but have got away with it anyway.

Darkest Vetiver
The most dense and dark vetiver I ever confronted with, never thought a vetiver scent could be so smoky and mysterious like this , its derived from pure vetiver oil which is called 'Khus' in Pakistan and India. I use to wear the Khus oil the dark green liquid which lasts for ages, Vetiver 46 is very much the same with the mysterious smoky woody notes of Olibanum and Labdanum and the background sweetness of Ambre. I absolutely don't get any citrus / floral trails.

If compared to Encre Noir in terms of Darkness and Mystery , the only thing may be found dark in Encre Noir would be its Black Bottle.

Gucci pour Homme I Vetiver Edition
If a hypothetical “Gucci pour Homme Vetiver” from 2003 existed, it would have smelled exactly like this. Vetiver by Le Labo is literally Gucci pour Homme I (I get this one closer than the CdG) with all its distinctive incense-cedar-pepper structure, just topped with (good) vetiver. A proper “flanker”. Surely nice overall, with also a remarkable persistence, but really too derivative for me.

Incense 46
Le Labo, I love you, I am always intrigued by you, yet I am not in a purchasing power enough to truly consider owning you.

I was really looking forward to getting my hands on this one, but even though it is a great scent, the vetiver was simply not there enough for me. I was not looking for incense although I certainly enjoyed it. Maybe I should read more reviews before going out and sampling things.

It lasts a while (less than other Le Labos I have sampled like Patchouli 24, Tonka 25, and The Noir 29), its punchy, and it has a sweet base under the incense and gentle brushstrokes of vetiver which makes it delicious in its own way.

Dont expect vetiver, but if you come in knowing that, you might definitely like this.

...the winter can't be that bad after all
I keep missing it, year after year after year.
The moment to say "goodbye!" to summer's golden green, the silky blue and the endlessly warm light that shines on my pillow before the alarm blinks, and refuses to fade away until the night prayer.
I miss the moment to take my leave, to close the door and turn around to the gold and red and hazel brown, to the twinkling darkness and delicate smoky gray of those days with an R at the end of the month name.
Again and again it surprises me, again and again I wake up one morning and see red leaves on the lawn, raindrops on the windows, and - startled - already the first frost.
It’s always like this, it’s like this this time.

One day, autumn was simply there, tousling my hair and tugging at my thin dress, scattering rustling leaves in my path and placing water droplets on my bare arms.
It made pumpkin heads grin and the sun set while I was still far from home, began to pull at the corners of my mouth and drove foggy clouds into my brain.
Autumn has never made it easy for me, not for me, the child of summer sun, who loves warmth and light and colorful brightness, but not cold, darkness, and soul pain, all that gloom it paves the way for.

There isn’t much that can truly comfort, not on those first, heavy days of realization.
An apple pie, warm from the oven, with whipped cream.
The old jacket made of terracotta velvet, so dearly loved and long since worn out.
Deep red fruit tea in old, heavy glass, candied with cinnamon and the last rays of sunshine.
The arms of my beloved, strong and firm and warm.
And now, quite unexpectedly, this scent: "Vetiver 46".

A hint of smoke, sacred and burnt, above it pepper, fresh and ethereal.
Dark green wood, freshly chopped, still juicy, lines my path during a walk in the woods.
Dense warmth, fallen out of time, spiced cloves on soap, cool and pure.
The scent is not loud, but not quiet either, it doesn’t impose itself, stays close to my skin - a Iamwithyou, a corner of my mouth lifting, a holdmetight in rain and wind.
It firmly plants my feet on the ground, straightens my back, clears the foggy gaze, ignites deep within, in me a glow that warms and comforts in the darkness.
And with it, it seems to me, by my side, winter can’t be that bad after all.

PS: Yatagan, Ergo - thank you!

Aromatic-woody-fresh Creed-like open (Royal Oud/Original Vetiver). Woody-spicy-resinous dry-down, more like an Amouage (Purpose/Beloved).

Frankincense 46 would be more fitting name.

A gentle kind of incensey-green profile. Vetiver dries down cigarette-like which I enjoy. A reserved, meditative kind of scent. Very nice.

Clean 'n' green, dry and earthy-woody. A fair bit of pepper and cloves with a hint of ambery sweetness permeating slightly soapy underbrush.

It smells like European Gooseberry and thanks to this it brings memories of my childhood. Another interesting one from Mark Buxton.

A clean, resinous (!) vetiver, with enhanced woody notes. Well done, meditative. Dry, green, grassy.

Very close to Gucci pH and CdG 2 Man. If you like incense with musky spices and wood, you'll find a lovely alternative here: fine!

All I smell is smoked ham, and I prefer it on a baguette. Who wants to smell like that?! Avant-garde shot in the foot.
