Does NOT smell like rain . . .

Man, I was excited - nature scents are what I'm after, and in my search for a rain-smelling scent, this option kept coming up in online. However, I personally don't smell the rain at all. Nor the scent "after the rain." Huge let down. What I do smell is juniper. Lots of it. Like I've cut open a fresh juniper berry and am holding that right under my nose. And nothing else. I do kinda like how juniper berries smell . . . but do I want my body to smell like them throughout the day? Hmmm, for me probably not. Note, juniper berries are what gin is made from and smells like. So that's the flavor. All this said, the scent does smell high-quality, like the ingredients are top notch. Can't recommend it given the one-note scent and sharp profile, as I can't envision a social situation where this would be useful. But I got a friend who loves this scent and has made it his signature, so maybe it's just another lesson in how you gotta try everything on your own skin and see how it mixes . . .

Upon Testing Baie 19 for the first time, I was immediately reminded of Diptyque Eau Mage, specifically in the discontinued EDT formulation. Baie 19 has some distinct differences however....with petrichor being an obvious difference and it lacks the rose oxide accord that is dominant in Eau Mage

Eau Mage EDT contains:
Top Notes: Green Mandarin, Rose oxide
Heart Notes: Ambrox, Caraway, Spicy notes
Base Notes: Cashmere wood, Musk, Cypress, Labdanum

Baie 19: contains:

Petrichor, Juniper berry, Patchouli, Green leaves, Ambrox, Cade juniper wood, Musk

I’ve also been wearing E.M. for years so the resemblance was apparent. 2 small sprays of Baie 19 has lasted 7 hours and is still going strong. The petrichor is quite realistic here. My reaction is that this is a clean, dewy-green, velvety-soft, musky-salty-sweet scent with a trace of darkness. Ambrox Addicts take notice! Both EM and B19 have a unique contrasting “light vs. dark” concept going on! Quite versatile, very attractive, and to be worn regularly. This scent has garnered an unusual amount of compliments. Most notably from my lovely wife, the ultimate critic and deciding factor with many of my fragrances... Finished a sample and decided it’s a must have. Bottle arrived yesterday and it’s as gorgeous as I anticipated. Le Labo still remains my #1 house and this became bottle #21 from Le Labo.

Mediocre Rain

Like all Le Labo, this has a powerful complex opening that tells a whole story in fragrance - it's fascinating how it's composed and it paints with fragrance. And then it smells like a plastic toy doll in a box that you've just opened. Synthetic, rubbery, like a Barbie or Pony toy, or a rubber eraser shaped like a strawberry. In the back is a "rain" accord often used in "clean" scents that are actually heavy and wet, like Demeter's Linen, or Clean Reserve's Fresh Linen. Comme des Garçons Odeur 53 does the synthetic plastic rubber flash better. The "rain" scent in it isn't anything like what petrichor or rain actually smells like, but is the stand-in often used for reasons my odd nose will never understand.

Rain within the Flower Dome

This smells like the musky water after a rain in the a huge green house. Its so hard to describe because I have a hard time separating the individual notes. Despite this, it's not one dimensional, it has depth. I can pick up green & hints of woody notes making it feel like being in a greenhouse. Additionally, there is also ozeanic musky ambergris scents. This paints the image of being in a foggy misty greenhouse after the rain.

It smells so modern like how a translucent alien space ship would smell like. I honestly don't know how I make this connection. The profile alone is so hard to grasp. Despite this, I think it is very versatile since it is rather inoffensive and airy.

However, the projection is absolute garbage. Longevity is alright but it stays a skin scent 5 min after applying for 5 hours. And the DNA isn't really intriguing as the other offerings from Le Labo.

For that price, I'd rate this below average.

Rain drops on a dusty windowpane

Sheltering inside from a summer thunderstorm by a dusty windowsill and the smell of the cool water drops rolling on the dirty glass is Baie 19. Very interesting fragrance. The petrichor creates the sensation of wet earth and the juniper adds to the feeling of that electric spark in the air, something like ozone. Or is that still the petrichor? It's a scent that you will easily recognize, but the question is, would you want to wear this? Personally, not sure that it's my thing, but unlike some other reviewers I thought the smell of rain is pretty authentic. I think it depends what kind of rain we're talking about. It's rainy season where I live, but it does not smell like Baie 19 at all because it's a wet, humid, non-stop rain that goes on for well over a month. I believe Baie 19 is trying to mimic the scent of a summer thunderstorm that rolls in after a long dry spell and I think it does that pretty well.
