Slightly Salty, Slightly Sweet, Coral Flower Cousin
Linari ACQUA SANTA occupies the same general olfactory space as a couple of Maurice Roucel's creations for Lolita Lempicka: L and CORAL FLOWER. There is a lightness mixed with a sweetness balanced by a kind of saltiness in this composition as well. ACQUA SANTA is less sweet than Roucel's Lolita Lempicka perfumes, and for that reason might appeal more to gents than those made-for-women compositions do.

After having worn each of these Linari fragrances on two separate occasions (I mean: two wearings for each), I can confidently say that this one is my favorite. (I also like FUOCO INFERNALE, but this one is more versatile.) The caramel here is not cloying and claustrophobic as in the Mark Buxton caramel perfume for this house, ANGELO DI FIUME, which I was literally waiting to evaporate--and in keeping with Murphy's Law of longevity, according to which my least favorite fragrances always last the longest, it dragged on for many, many hours.

With ACQUA SANTA, in contrast, I feel exactly the opposite, hoping that it will last on and on and on because the caramel is not a thick wall of impenetrable goo. No, it adds an ever-so-slightly gourmand touch to this oddly watery-salty-floriental perfume. If I were to add a Linari to my collection, this would probably be it.

First contact with paradise.
Well, leaving the church (my last review of Relique d'Amour), I'm transported to where this wonderful Aqua Santa perfume evokes me, and I head to a 17th-century castle where a room and a bathtub await me.

A bathtub filled with warm water, lined with white leaves reflecting the sun coming through the window.

Once inside, I can feel my skin absorbing the jasmine leaves and the lily of the valley entangling my body. As I step out, I notice a floral, pristine, and clean sensation. I don't want to use any cream o perfume, just smell like that, because I think that's what angels must smell like.

A feminine perfume? Angels have no gender!

Too Much Cassis!
Testing this fragrance definitely convinced me that my skin emphases black currant and cassis notes, which I do not like. I just finished with testing Enchanted Forest by Vagabond Prince and the dominant note for my nose was black currant.. . well, there were also fir tree and resins, which combination was beautiful, but the case of Acqua Santa is extreme black currant. For me it’s a smell of black currant jam and it's rather linear. It’s not this jam that you can buy from supermarkets, but it is the home-made jam were you put normally less sugar, the smell is more natural. Actually the smell of black currant leaves(cassis) is more woody, than the berries.
For me it doesn't have a smell of caramel and the bergamot adds even more sourness. I wouldn’t classify Acqua Santa as gourmand, it’s fruity or maybe sweet fruity perfume with good longevity.

Confusion, Freshly Served in the Garden of Eden
It simply wasn't Brother Donato's day. First, he had fallen asleep during the morning mass and had snored loudly, which, although not considered a violation of the vow of silence, given that the Holy Father had so richly "blessed" him with polyps, was certainly inappropriate. Later, while working in the herb garden, he had cut his finger deeply with the garden shears and stained his robe in a frantic effort to stop the bleeding. After getting a band-aid and a tetanus shot from Brother Sanitus (screams of pain were also exempt from the vow of silence, as long as they consisted only of vowels), he went to the monastery laundry to fetch a clean robe. Of course, the robes with the practical pockets were all gone again... and then for lunch, they had kale. He hated kale. The abbot placed a note next to his plate: "Clean the holy water basin." Great. The penance for snoring. But first, Brother Donato decided he had rightfully earned a delicious dessert after so much suffering, even if it meant breaking the 7th commandment: You shall not steal. Actually, it wasn't really theft if he sneaked into the kitchen to treat himself to a little comfort food, since the groceries there had been legally purchased for the brothers. He was just circumventing the weekly meal plan.
With his loot, a mango, he finally made it unnoticed into the sacristy to fetch fresh holy water, the Acqua Santa. He was just about to take a hearty bite of the juicy-sweet fruit when he heard the door open behind him. Oh dear. Quick, quick, hide the mango in his pocket... Crucifix, the robe had no pockets! Brother Donato briefly wondered if thinking a curse was actually a violation of the 2nd commandment, but then he decisively let the mango plop into the holy water.

And that could be the story of why "Acqua Santa" smells like mango. Canned mango, to be precise. It deeply irritates me in light of the fragrance pyramid, but it is so: I smell a sugary-sweet, ripe mango. It lasts about 2 hours before this fruit accord, which is actually not present but still distinctly noticeable, shifts to a woody scent. On the skin. On clothing, the mango lingers easily until the next day. I can still sense a sensually spicy rose and a bit of tonka bean as accompaniment, but the rest: mango, as much as it pains me.
Whether it was the dear God who had a hand in this and took pleasure in making these fragrance components smell like mango in this combination? Mango or not, Linaris Acqua Santa has nothing to do with cold stone walls or incense. It smells more like the Garden of Eden: lush, juicy, sensual, fruity, warm, and simply delicious enough to bite into.

Totally nonlinear. Started fresh, but despite the name, no aquatic notes. Suddenly a warm cedar forest. Harmonious, but the transition feels too broad for me.

Fresh, tart blackcurrants meet lush white florals with a tropical flair. Rolls into a lightly sweet, woody musk cream. Nice holy water.

Floral-fruity-fresh & sweet towards the end. Holy water? Maybe the nice innocence of the scent is the bridge to its name? Whatever.

Fruity, fresh, creamy.
Blackcurrant, coconut, and green notes dominate.
For me, it's very fruity and tropical.

Holy water ... I would have imagined a dark, mystical scent but not at all... "Halo" is more like it. Sweet-floral-bright!

Wonderful fruit and floral spice! Violets dance cheerfully with caramel; all the other notes applaud! An unholy delight!

Holy water because it's not sexy? But fruity, woody, caramel-like, wonderful in autumn, sweet and cozy, I love it when it gets cold.

For me, it's mainly a green scent, equally floral with immature fruity notes. Creamy gourmand base.

Hmm, deliciously fruity, fresh, then fruity-floral-fresh, in the end cozy and sweet, great composition, rounded and lovely!
