Vista Sul Mare
This fragrance starts with a fruity floral accord; the citrus notes are sweet and crystalline. No note is jarring; they are a delicate bouquet of well-behaved notes, like a soft summer wind breezing through a well-tended Mediterranean garden. As the fragrance progresses, it gets sweeter and veers more towards the fruity aspect, passion fruit dominating the body. The dry down is woody with a hint of something fruity, almost like melon. Although linear and not long-lasting, this fragrance is wonderful to wear in summer. Lasts for roughly 4 hours on my skin.

"Cool Ozonic Accord": You Can Run But You Cannot Hide!
Although the quality of the components is beyond dispute, and VISTA SUL MARE does smell nice, it is not at all unique or original. Upon application, in fact, it called immediately to mind Benetton BLU, which, while much more synthetic, is still entirely wearable and costs a tiny fraction of the price of this niche perfume.

I actually prefer to ignore the price in reviewing perfumes, for a couple of reasons. One is that I think that perfume is one of the best bargains around, and luxury perfume is by far the least expensive luxury product. (Consider the price of "niche" wine, for example!) So all things considered, I do not think that paying $200 for a bottle of perfume is exorbitant, especially given how long it lasts, and given the cost of everything else which people who use perfume also tend to enjoy (dinner at fine restaurants, nice clothes, taking taxis when they might have walked or used public transporation, fine wine--a bottle of which lasts at most for the duration of one meal--etc., etc.).

That said, it is not unreasonable, I think, for people to say that if two perfumes are nearly identical (empirically indistinguishable to the wearer him-or herself), then, all things considered, the one which costs $20 is preferable to the one which costs $200. That's just common sense.

Back to VISTA SUL MARE. In my opinion, this really is a masculine cologne, not a unisex perfume, as it has been characterized elsewhere. Several of the notes which we associate with masculine colognes are here, and, in particular, the "cool ozonic accord" just screams masculine cologne. So if you want to call this unisex, then you must be willing to concede that every so-called masculine ozonic cologne is also unisex. Fine. Use language however you like, but if you're going to allow the possibility of a masculine cologne, then I cannot really see how this one would not qualify.

I would recommend this composition in particular to the gents who like ozonic colognes but whose physiology is incompatible with some of the synthetic components of vat-produced, low-cost colognes. For everyone else, a purchase of this perfume is just not going to make a lot of sense. Even if you happen to love the bottle, there are better choices within this house's line-up.

Inside Cabin Without Shore Leave
My father doesn’t do things by halves. For the summer holidays, he invited his two grandchildren on a short trip to Oslo. The pictures of the ferry (large swimming pool, shopping arcade, etc.) have triggered plenty of high-frequency squeals. Of course, there will also be a lot of the Baltic Sea to see. And that brings us to the topic. Vista Sul Mare - view over the sea. So how does this view smell?

A salty-brackish maritime note, including a just-washed-up piece of plywood, mixes with a relatively mild let’s-say fruit. The fact that this primarily reminds one of mandarin is probably no coincidence, as the proximity to a certain synthetic quality is simply the greatest here. See, for example, L'Eau Froide by Lutens, Geza Schön's Escentric 02, or L'Île au Thé by Goutal. Here, it doesn’t seem any less meager.

As it progresses, I can’t even identify much from the provided mixture, even with the help of the official notes. At best, there’s a nebulous spiciness, which, however, is simply overshadowed and thus devalued by the brackish wood note. That’s a pity, as its initial hints were promising, with pink pepper and juniper almost recognizable! A sort of lily-of-the-valley sweetness-sentimentality (I wouldn’t have thought of it myself, but it’s plausible) is not helpful either. To top it all off, the otherwise completely unremarkable bergamot occasionally emits a whiff of cheesy feet, at least that’s what I think.

The let’s-say freshness of the opening gives way to a diffuse, rough sweetness by the second hour, under which the character-strong base notes cannot unfold. After about two hours, I mainly smell synthetic driftwood, and by the third hour, the scent is practically gone. Not “silent” or “basic,” but actually disappeared, except for a barely perceptible wood-sweet hint.

Conclusion: This expensive short trip takes place - to stay with the image - in an inside cabin on a spice freighter that was decommissioned many years ago, and on top of that, the ship is just going in circles in some harbor basin. Shore leave? Not happening. Great.

I thank MisterE for the sample.

PS: Speaking of “no half measures”… Uh - why is only half of my family invited?

Na-Ja-Experience!
What does one write about a fragrance that smells like many others? Should it receive a scathing review? Should one hold back their comments? Or should one just write "something" to keep the dear test soul at peace? I simply cannot decide and choose a combination of everything!

Now, Vista Sul Mare is, as the name suggests, a summer scent with the "marine notes" that I love so much! I will spare the reader my opinion on these notes, as I have expressed it often enough already.

This fragrance is situated somewhere between Aqva Bvlgari and L'Eau d'Issey. Despite the abundance of fragrance components, none of the notes stands out boldly. The scent also does not take any great olfactory leaps, but rather lingers quietly and subtly on my arm, and after about 2 hours, it is completely gone!

VSM evokes no emotions in me. Not that it is poorly composed, no, it is simply interchangeable like many of these summer fragrances, and that across the board! If one is looking for a scent with this theme, then L'Eau d'Issey or Aqua di Gio would be the way to go; despite the mentioned notes, they have that certain something and are significantly cheaper.

Not that one misunderstands me. I am certainly willing to spend over 100.00 € for a fragrance, but then I expect an Aha- and not a Na-Ja-Experience!

Flute on the Sea
You probably know this too: you smell a fragrance and it immediately feels familiar. Unfortunately, you just don’t know where it’s from or which other scent it reminds you of.

I experienced exactly that here - and Vista Sul Mare seems predestined for it.

This aquatic spicy top note has encountered me somewhere before, possibly even multiple times, but no matter how often I rummage through the fragrance archive in my head, I can’t figure it out.

And unfortunately, the scent remains relatively linear from the unpretentious beginning to the brisk end (is the brand Linari derived from that?).

But as Ergproxy already noted, the arrangement in Vista Sul Mare is too arbitrary. There are definitely more successful compositions on the theme of "sea" or "water." And the spiciness here leans too much towards the peppery side for my taste.

For a drugstore or mainstream fragrance, that might still work, but for a high-priced niche scent, I find myself pondering quite a bit - unfortunately, Vista Sul Mare is too mediocre and too short-winded for that.

Everything, but not fresh-aquatic. For me, it comes off warmer and more like a city view of the sea.*

Not an ocean, but for an aquatic scent, pleasant freshness, fine spice, gentle citrus, juicy green. Doesn't bother me. S/D and P/V are poor.

Very fitting name
The feeling evoked by the scent... "the view of the sea."
Delicate balance, softly tuned. I like it from time to time;-)

Big lull on the sea - from the unpretentious beginning to the lively end, it's relatively linear. There are more interesting scents on this theme!

Beautiful fresh aquatic. Doesn't offend anyone but also doesn't stand out with high recognition. More unisex. Unfortunately, poor value for money.

A classic, timeless aquatic. Puristically elegant. Mature. Neither a Calone bomb nor "shower gel." A bit weak in strength.

A fine fresh aquatic that isn’t overloaded for a change. Of course, it’s too expensive, but that doesn’t make the scent bad.

Here the brand sets the price, not the product. Typical aquatic fragrance with typical performance and rather typical ingredients.

Solid, fresh-spicy, and wearable Aquatic without any recognizability or special features. For the price, it's a bit lacking overall.
