A dewy morning in spring...or also: My first perfume love!
Barefoot, early in the morning in the still damp grass, with the neighbour cat wrapping around his legs in the garden, then sitting in a fluffy cardigan and cuddly socks in the Hollywood swing, watching a good book and a hot cup of tea as more and more sunbeams can be seen...

Flowery, dewy, light, delicate, slightly sparkling & fruity due to the pear, yet interesting and discreetly acidulous due to the black currant. A so-called "ever-goer" whether in the office, in his leisure time, or anywhere else. Unobtrusive and doesn't bother anyone (in my opinion). A beautiful companion in everyday life, for most people probably not especially and not outstanding enough, which (at least for me), does not always have to be.
About 3 years ago, I was able to get hold of a specimen, which at first did not inspire me, because it was too "unspecial" for me. But after some time I noticed that the sample was empty and I appreciated its "uniqueness". I fight a lot with nausea and headaches with fragrances and was simply glad that there was finally one (after eternal searching), which did not produce all this in me, but simply only delicately woven around me. I was (and still am) in love with Lolita! He is like a small, special treasure for me, which I want to protect and which protects me. I don't even have to start from the bottle... a dream! I don't think it's childish despite its apple shape, I would have rather found this would have been hundreds of followers.

The durability is acceptable, I am satisfied with the price. Not forever on the skin, but especially in the hair and neck I find it beautiful. Unfortunately it was taken out of the assortment in almost every drugstore and perfumery...:-( I hope I can get it somewhere still cheap! Oh, did I mention that Lolita was my first perfume to be emptied to the last drop? :-)

I am then further with my thoughts at the spring and at dreaming...

putrid piercing peony
As I've noted in some other reviews, I've tried quite a few peony scents in the last few months because I have a niece who's looking for just the right one. My stash of peony-related samples is dwindling, and I'm rather happy about that.

L'eau Jolie, while listed as having some notes I often love (blackcurrant, cedar), is all about the peony. It's that gigantic, smothering pink peony out of the test tubes of an evil laboratory that I've smelled in so many other scents.

I used to be more patient about sitting around and letting a scent develop. Now, I realize that there is no way I can keep up with even a tenth of the scents released every year. So, if a scent makes me physically uncomfortable at any point, I scrub it and move on. Here, the giant peony was poking a hole in my sinuses as soon as I put it on and was blasting away at me 20 minutes later with no hint of any other notes.

And so I scrubbed.

Soft, pleasant, but disappointingly boring
Straight from the nozzle, you could smell the musky peonies, and this is what I first perceive on my skin, along with a bergamot-like presence that is peppered with peach. It's actually a little richer than I thought it would be, but still manages to retain a somewhat light quality throughout.

As far as I can tell, it doesn't develop much, apart from becoming a little more fruity as it wears on. Its powdery texture reminds me of some other rose-centered perfumes that I've tried, but have no fear rose-haters, it doesn't resemble a rose in any way, even though at some points, it gets a little jasmine-esque. A while before it dies, it gains a deeper creamy peachy woody (forgive the many y's) feel that is like a pretty skin scent.

In more ways than one, L'eau Jolie is a disappointment, to me, that is. It feels like a lazy perfume that refuses to accomplish its full potential. On me, it is neither rich nor light enough, neither fruity nor floral, neither powdery nor soapy enough. With some perfumes, combos like that work, but with this, it just feels half-baked. Lukewarm. I wish Lolita Lempicka had worked on giving it a defining edge, rather than leaving unfinished ends.

It is not horrible, by any means. In fact, I do believe that this would make a rather unoffensive day-to-day perfume, but it's just not one I would bother getting an FB of, which is terribly disappointing because I can see how this can be a fairly elegant and feminine perfume. I'm sorry to say that there are better perfumes out there with similar notes that do a better job.

Longevity: a little less than 3 hours
Sillage: Next to none. I have to hold my hand up to my nose to get a sniff.

Not Lolita, for better or for worse
My admiration for the fragrances of this brand had always been rather limited to the visual aspects. Although I had the privilege of smelling the original EDP every week during my school days, it wasn't until a few years later, when I delved deeper into the hobby of fragrances, that I discovered the name of the classic.
Whoever had given it to my classmate, the otherworldly scent in a fairytale apple could have been tailor-made for the nymph she was.

My expectations of L'Eau Jolie were aroused by many reviews that seemed to welcome this flanker as the Lolita for those who unfortunately could not identify with nymphs and other mystical beings. Perhaps this was the chance for me to finally justify owning at least one of these beautiful objects?

Unfortunately, the fruit of joy turned out to be another fruit défendu. My nose perceives the citrus the most, which on my skin again borders on astringent cleansers. The pastel-coloured bouquet of delicate florals and the dewy fruit notes translate to me as a somewhat thin, watery, and slightly sweet, floral-fruity shampoo with longevity corresponding that of an EDT.

Without a doubt, the content of L'Eau Jolie is faithful to its presentation: a very spring-like, transparent, inoffensive, youthfully feminine fragrance without any sweet or remotely gourmand aspects; even an innocent aura, as if the eponymous heroine had been freed from all her premature qualities and attempts at seduction and manipulation with her sex appeal. Both the translucent pink glass and the naming really fit in well with the concept that evokes the untainted, healthy 'joy' of a girl of preteen age, without all the dark facets that were aptly portrayed in the other versions. ... And yet, a delicate and powdery (not listed) violet, which peeped out from time to time, reminded me of the original and proved the connection to Lolita Lempika: a mutation within the DNA - more Dolores than Lolita.

The phenomenon regarding the reception of this fragrance that I observed reminded me of "Peace, Love & Juicy Couture". It apparently failed because of the discrepancy between the expectations of the core fan group and actual deliverance.
A sudden, massive shift in fragrance type could have expanded the target group, while the passionate apple collector would have accepted anything, if only for the bottle. The enthusiastic fans of the 'traditional' LLs, however, seem to have dismissed it as something foreign and almost a betrayal - while the more neutral (and somewhat hopeful) other end of the spectrum, like me, could not be sufficiently convinced. This is even truer when one considers the price charged, which seems to be more based on the brand's name and value of the collectors' bottle - without meaning offense, I would personally think that there are numerous quite pleasant alternatives at a much lower price point.

In my teenage years (and even in my early twenties), I might not have resisted the temptation to keep this perfume because of its visual appeal... but since I was definitely no longer in the target group, I gave it to someone who would do it more justice and show appreciation by wearing it instead of dragon-hoarding the glittering treasure.
Still, it's a shame that none of the beauties were meant for me in the end.

Surprised!
I received a sample of this with an order, and was very surprised to find I liked it. My taste runs more to aromatic green and unisex citrus fragrances than to fruity florals, but this I like - maybe its the pear in the opening, because I like it less as it dries down. There is some kind of synthetic musky note I dislike. I wear it when I want to be sure I won't offend anyone with my more interesting fragrances.

Pretty like its name but nothing like the OG. Clean fresh subtle fruity-floral-musk. Beautiful simplicity, easy to wear, perfect for spring.
