A slow and strangely enjoyable death by sticky-pine-sap-patchouli. ...
To my nose this is a rich, super-naturalistic fougere with patchouli and other elements combining to stand in for the oakmoss.
A generous dose of sweet and comforting coumarin, plenty of sticky leather labdanum, mossy, very green and woody patchouli, a hint of herbal lavender, a lick of natural liquorice and an uplifting zesty infusion of grapefruit peel.

Rentless reminds me of the aromas of newly sawn pine trees and rubbing my fingers on the gummy underside of freshly unfurled fern leaves.
It's a walk in a slightly surreal evergreen forest, where the dark emerald vegetation crushed underfoot is pungent, sweet and larger than life.

Heady, fulsome, earthy, verdant and bittersweet. I imagine it to have been whipped up by a Shakespearean apothecary.

Tenacious longevity and it is strong, the first time I wore this I overdid it with the spritzing and it nearly killed me - I felt as though the ferns were curling themselves around me, sticking to me, squeezing. The forest floor had taken on a treacly quicksand quality and was sucking me into its green viscous depths.

I really like it.

Patch at its Finest
I have owned a bottle of Rentless for about a year. The last time I wore the fragrance was at the beginning of 2022. Today, on Christmas Eve, I want to wear it again. I just sprayed it to sniff and what do I find? It has developed, smells different now than it did almost a year ago when I last wore it. Since it contains essential oils, it makes sense that a perfume with or made from various essential oils matures and evolves over time, and thus can (slightly) change. What I smell now surprises me a lot, as I strongly detect dried, caramelized dates or apricots, something along those lines, and I like it. As it develops on my skin, the patchouli comes through stronger. I love patchouli, especially when it smells natural. When I bought the fragrance and wore it for the first time, the patch was very present from the start.
The dried fruit sweetness remains, as does the patchouli, until the end, and a slight smokiness develops. The scent is deep and very potent. For me, it’s a fragrance not suitable for many occasions and only wearable in cold weather. There are many people who can’t stand patchouli, so be cautious if you want to wear it in closed spaces around others. When I wore it for the first time, I was sitting in the subway. There was a comment from a fellow passenger I didn’t know, who was about 1.5 meters away from me, saying to his buddy: "Wow, someone really doused themselves in patchouli." And not in a complimentary tone. I was extremely embarrassed. Well, one probably should have good self-confidence when wearing this fragrance in public, which I unfortunately do not possess to a great extent. But I still wear Rentless, just being careful about where and when I use it and dosing it more cautiously since that experience. So, if you’re looking for a naturally smelling, potent, slightly sweet and smoky patchouli scent, then Rentless could be your new treasure. For me, it is one.

So first of all:
I enjoy going into a Lush store and sniffing around. Not just the perfumes but also everything else there. It can be overwhelming, but you can get used to it. What I appreciate about Lush fragrances is the mainstreaming of scents that are actually not mainstream. And since I am not very respectful of fragrances based on their bottles, I can also accept the simplicity of the Lush bottles.

Now to the scent. In hindsight, I regret a bit that I chose this one instead of Lord of Misrule. I recently sniffed LoM and found it really well-rounded yet unusual. However, the Lush store didn't have it in stock at that time, so I chose Rentless instead. Rentless gives me two images. On one hand, a hipster event in autumn in some backyard, where string lights hang everywhere and where vegan waffles are served, and where a cigarette or two is smoked, but only in the corner at the back. The walls are rough, peeling in places, revealing brickwork underneath. Somewhere, a barrel is burning, and that seems to provide enough warmth for everyone. It's actually too cold to be outside, but everyone seems okay with it, and a lot of hot chocolate is being consumed. The evening is nice and calm, not perfect, but that was never the expectation, perhaps even intentionally not desired.

Another image that comes to mind is the return home. The completely imperfect return home, and yet it’s nice. I see myself in early December. It’s really uncomfortable, cold, and raining, because snow would be too pleasant. You come in with cold cheeks and you can smell that mom has been baking. Beautiful chocolate cookies. But wait, what smells so burnt? Mom reports that the first two batches unfortunately burned in the oven. However, the subsequent cookies have absorbed a bit, but only a little, of the burnt aroma. Mom's aroma sticks are also in the hallway, radiating throughout the house.

The scent has its rough edges. Yet even when I wear it for my own comfort, I unfortunately only had this scent with me when I was once at home with my family over the Christmas holidays. During this time, there is a tent festival from the 1st to the 2nd Christmas holiday where everyone meets. Those who stayed and also those who have moved away. I wore the scent there and received nothing but compliments. Everyone thought it was great and very delicious. In the huge tent, with about 3000-4000 visitors, smoking also happens, albeit secretly when the security guards aren't looking. The scent fits perfectly there. Especially since it should be on par, if not even superior, to others like Eros and One Million in terms of longevity and sillage. And its smell makes it stand out.

Too Much of a Good Thing.
Do you know that feeling? A new car hits the market, and you can't get enough of its design. However, the more you see the vehicle on the road, the more ordinary it becomes, until you eventually don’t want to see it at all.
That’s how I felt about Rentless. In the summer, I was trying Dirty at the local Lush, after which the saleswoman wanted to push “a really great one that I’m sure you’ve never smelled before” on me. So I sprayed Rentless on the test strip, took a quick sniff, and moved on. The first impression: Dark, liqueur-like berry, earthy, sweet. But not the classic gold bar sweetness, or the subtly flattering sweetness of DHI. No, this is different; clearer, almost cutting, fresher, much fresher. Like the voice of Shania Twain, if anyone remembers her. The scent is definitely sweet - but it doesn’t feel that way at all. But okay - Lush is definitely not your average brand, so I headed downtown to wait for the development.
The liqueur aspect dissipates quickly, the grapefruit comes forward and makes the fresh sweetness sharper. Then patchouli and lavender take over, but the mix remains crisp and fresh, in the absence of a better German word. The scent doesn’t fade away; it lingers. After an hour, it still clings like Duracell from the test strip in my shirt pocket. At this point, my wife convinced me to go back to the store and get the 30ml. For her, not for me, so definitely unisex. But now back to the problem. Longevity and sillage overshadow everything, really everything, that I’ve experienced so far. On the skin, after two days (and showers), it’s still definitely noticeable. On clothing? The shirt with the test strip still smells good today... But seriously: Rentless, sprayed twice, outperforms Mugler, Rabanne, definitely everything I’ve tested so far. My wife sprays it on, and the kids don’t want to get into her car anymore. Not because it’s bad, but who wants to bathe in jam? All other scent impressions in the vicinity fade away. Too much of a good thing, and I fear that the 30ml in this ugly bottle will last another 4 or 5 years. Despite initial affection, despite its uniqueness and quality, but especially because of its presence, I find Rentless ultimately unbearable in the long run. This is an experience that no perfume enthusiast would want to miss. But I would love to meet anyone who wears this as their signature scent.

Strong and sweet, lasts forever on my skin. Dreading finishing my bottle because there's really nothing like it.

1. Thought: Niche liqueur scent, awesome.
2. Thought: Simple, few ingredients, patchouli lab., monotonous
3. Thought: -
It blows your mind away.

Very sweet patchouli but without the earthy edges, more like caramelized. Slightly spicy, for me it's cinnamon. Dessert scent.

Earthy-resinous beauty that starts off slightly medicinal. A shy grapefruit peeks out briefly and soon disappears into the earth.

Labi and Grapi wrestle in tonka mud over wet, fresh earth. Sweet and sexy, so dirty, and only the little eyes are visible.

For all ground squirrels: Light earthy patchouli is balanced here with tonka, but at the cost of a noticeable sweetness.

Starts off totally tipsy and transitions into a sweet patchouli comfort scent that’s a bit dirtied up. Great fragrance!
