Naughty In A Bottle
In my opinion, this is the best scent creation that Lush has put out. It is not complicated at all with its three notes of patchouli, pepper, and vanilla. It is a rather linear scent that doesn’t change much, if at all. However, it is absolutely delicious. The subtly sweet and spicy vanilla over the dirty, green, and earthy patchouli is hypnotic. To me, this is bottled sex appeal. It is green and earthy enough to where it has a bit of a masculine edge but also has that sweet vanilla that gives it a feminine touch as well. I find it completely unisex. The perfume version of LOM is available year round but the body sprays and soaps are fall exclusives. This is understandable because the cool weather is when LOM really shines.

It is a very powerful fragrance so a little goes a long way. I spray once on each forearm and that lasts all day. It projects quite well for the first 4 to 5 hours before retreating closer. But even after it is done with its peak projection I can still smell it on me without having to put my nose to my arms.

The bottle is really nothing special. It’s the same vial style bottles that Lush uses for all of their fragrances which includes a sticker label on the front notating the name of the fragrance. The cap feels like a cheap metal and is pretty flimsy and the atomizer is a cheap plastic one. This is more about the juice inside.

I purchased a 1 oz bottle at my local Lush for about $55. Normally I would say that was a bit steep, but the quality of the fragrance is mind blowing and it will probably last quite a while since I only need about 2 sprays at a time.

This is definitely a love it or hate it fragrance since patchouli is such a polarizing note. Would not recommend blind buying unless you are someone who loves every patchouli scent they put their nose to.

Weirdos Unite!
This is the ultimate weirdo perfume, and with that being said, surprisingly wearable. People only really like this fragrance if they're fragheads or just know what's up. Only two people in my life have ever complimented me on it, which doesn't make me believe it smells bad, it just makes me think those two people had superior taste.

When I worked for Lush, Lord of Misrule was often described as a "grounding" scent, and that makes sense since it's very strong and there's nothing else like it. Patchouli, black pepper, and vanilla seem like such a simple combination, but they come together to form something wild. To me, this fragrance smells like encountering a magical winter forest at golden hour. The forest is mainly pine trees, and the magic is neither good nor evil, it's just mischievously fun.

The EDP of this fragrance is far more creamy and gourmand versus the body spray that almost has a damp mossiness to it. Both are fantastic, but I prefer the EDP.

My favorite patchouli scent… ever?
This is hands down my favorite patchouli perfume and as long as Lush makes this fragrance, I will always have it in my collection.

Patchouli can be a tricky note for some, but in Lord of Misrule, it’s been made into the most beautiful, cozy, sensual, and downright sexy patchouli EVER with the accompaniment of vanilla and pepper. Who would have thought 3 notes could come together and make such an astoundingly gorgeous and complex fragrance? LoM is sweet, slightly spicy, earthy, balsamic, and extremely addicting. This is an unexpected crowd pleaser that gets me compliments, even in the most weird situations lol.

I’m over NYC summer at this point, so I’ve been reaching for my fall fragrances and let me tell you, I can’t wait for autumn and winter just so I can wear the absolute hell out of this. Perfect for daytime to nighttime use, and has a spectacular performance that will leave a hypnotic bubble around you and trail behind you. I’m wearing it to bed tonight and I literally can’t stop sniffing myself.

Lush better not ever think of discontinuing this fragrance or myself, and many others will riot in the street. Try it if you haven’t already. It deserves all the hype that it gets.

For witchy, whimsical girls with grit
I associate this with my friend Ash, who incidentally put me onto Lush fragrances as a whole. Her uniform consists of blouses, hand-made linen skirts that hit her ankles, mary janes, and Lord of Misrule. When she wears this, you can smell her before you can see her. LoM is pure spiced magic, and extremely comforting. Someone said it smells mischievous and friendly, and they hit the nail on the head. It's her in a bottle. I find it to be pretty linear, which is not a complaint. Each facet of this fragrance hugs you and sticks around to the end. This can only be convincingly pulled off by witchy, whimsical girls with grit. Namby-pambies: get lost.

It's called Lord of Misrule for a reason!

My most worn perfume of 2023 and 2024
The opening smells like black pepper but only if you imagine a handful of black pepper powder being blown at you through the sweet, glittery miasma of mica and minerals that hovers around the bath bomb wall at Lush. If you told me this is what Outer Space smells like, I’d believe you.

Straight away, there are two layers. The first, that minty-mineralic ‘bath bomb’ dust that impregnates every available air particle to the point you feel a little ‘choked out’. The second, a wet, syrupy-sweet accord that smells a little like the Coca Cola syrup you mix with seltzer in a Soda Stream. In this regard, it feels like Lush is recycling a few ideas from previous perfumes in Lord of Misrule, most notably the bright, Coca Cola-ish marmalade-myrrh accord from 1000 Kisses Deep and the burnt sugar notes from All Good Things. The patchouli is hiding out in the heart, but it is so heavily bookended by the sharp pepper and the syrupy amber that, for the first hour or two, it is easy to miss.

But the greyish fuzz of minerals and space dust eventually burns off, revealing a sumptuous patchouli amber so rich you can almost feel it as a weight on your skin. Essentially, in marrying a sexy ice-creamy amber-vanilla tandem to a headshoppy patchouli (think more the incensey sweetness of patchouli nag champa than the essential oil), Lush has recreated the more expensive feel of niche vanillambers, like Ani (Nishane) or Ambre Extrême (L’Artisan Parfumeur) but charges you a mere €35 for the pleasure. As long as Lush makes Lord of Misrule, I will be buying it.

This is exactly the patchouli how I like it. Earthy, dark, twisted. Almost honey-like vanilla sweetens things up a quite bit.

The cherry on top for all fall/winter frags. It is creamy, sweet, rugged and smoky. Underrated, this seals the deal for patchouli sweetness
