Prominent natural-smelling dirty musk
This flanker to Tabac Original EDT opens herbal and spicy with green notes, sage, cardamom, and coriander. Soon after, a prominent natural-smelling dirty musk takes over, along with some oakmoss and vetiver. If you're not into sweaty vibes, you might want to steer clear.

This is the second review I'm writing for this fragrance. The first was very different because I had to learn (the hard way) not to overspray it. If you overspray Tabac Original Extreme, the dirty musk truly becomes extreme. The furthest I'll go now is one spray on each wrist and one on the neck. WARNING: Do not overspray this or you'll feel like you crawled up into some big, fat, hairy wrestler's sweaty armpit.

I find that projection and longevity are excellent, but also directly proportional to how much I spray. With 3 sprays I get 7-8 hours on my skin. With 12 sprays, I was still searching for a decontamination chamber 12 hours later.

Masculinity Level: Sweaty Ivan Danko fighting a bathhouse full of sweaty men in Red Heat.

"Extreme" Shoulder Shrug...
Tabac Original Extreme goes on skin with strong herbal bitter-green artemisia and gobs of mossy-green oakmoss with a hint of carnation florals before transitioning to its heart. As the composition reaches its early heart, the oakmoss remains as co-star to significant musk rising from the base, as the bitter-green artemisia moves to a supporting role, joined in support by nutmeg warm spice and woody vetiver. During the late dry-down the woody vetiver and musk both take the fore with remnants of the oakmoss remaining through the finish. Projection is minimal, as is longevity at 3-4 hours on skin.

Tabac Original Extreme poses quite the quandary. On the one hand its aromatic oakmoss laden open is not only eye opening, but rather fantastic smelling. Once you get past the open, however, things turn much more mundane. That is not to say the composition goes completely south, but rather it becomes more of an average product of its time, as the musk and woody vetiver come into play. If it were released nowadays I am sure I would be amazed, but when compared against its contemporaries, after the terrific open one just can't get too excited, with that feeling only confirmed by its rather linear development through the finish. Adding to the development disappointment, the relatively poor performance metrics also don't make much of a case for the composition in the end. The bottom line is the discontinued $50 per 50ml bottle on the aftermarket Tabac Original Extreme is pretty decent smelling, but lags many of the prominent offerings of its contemporaries, earning a "good" 3 stars out of 5 rating, but only a neutral recommendation due to its lack of distinguishing itself from "the 90s pack."

Extremely masculine.
The Tabac Original care line, a rock in the surf of fragrances of every color vying for the favor of those with the XY chromosome set.

“It's been working for decades, and it’s not doing badly!” booms from the company headquarters in Stolberg in a broad Rhineland accent.
Carefully, we open the thick, leather-bound door, button upholstery, elegant dark brown:

“Yes, I know, Tabac is doing well, like hotcakes, that will continue, but soon we will be introducing new products, we have nothing for women. Just Tabac and laundry detergent and the soaps... that’s not enough.”

“Oh, come on, I know. You want to sell that Betsy stuff, but we already have that Nonschalangse, that’s enough for us.”

“Betty. Betty Barclay. But we need to broaden our range, and just wait, we’ll get the Cologne crowd too. Time will tell.”

“No, not that thing with the Glockengasse again, come here, smell:
our new one!”

“What is that? Tabac Extrême?”

“Exactly. Tabac Extrême. You’ve got bells, big bells.”

“Nice! Warm, soft, sensual, but masculine in the old school way. At first fresh, but never intrusive, then bam! warm wood and soap come in. Very rounded at the back.”

“Nice or nice?”

“Very nice - we’ll take it. But Betty, she’s coming too...”

“Well, fine by me, as long as there’s still something here with some hair on the eggs, Betsy can come along too.”

“Betty. Betty Barclay. And she won’t have any hair, especially not in the front or below.”

...and so it happened, as it often does, Extrême is no longer available, seemingly still at fantasy prices, but Betty continues to cheerfully stink us out.
Many feel called, only a few are chosen, Extrême certainly belonged to that group.

Green primordial scent with forest refinement.
Pimento, sage, and coriander elegantly intertwined with musk and tonka on a moss bed.
A fine masculine essence.

Tabac Original - Sweet + Soap = T. Extreme. I'm for a law against discontinuing such great scents. Stocked up on 0.5L, pulse back to normal.

At first sniff, I think the Extrême smells like a blend of the EdT and EdC, but perfectly balanced!
