Better Than Santal 33 (IMO)

Bois de Balincourt is airy woods, soft suede, sun-kissed skin, and as others have noted-- pickles! Although, in my opinion, pickles in the best way possible! It is a pickle note without the sour zing. Instead, it lends a fresh oceanic quality that rounds out this fragrance in a very sophisticated way. Many have compared Bois to Le Labo's Santal 33, however, I find Bois to be less dense and a more subtle interpretation. Definitely test it out if you found Santal 33 to be too powerful.

Refreshing Woods

Beautiful, clean, and refreshing woods that have a light spice which I find to be revitalizing when I get a whiff. I prefer it most out of the shower/part of an at home evening routine rather than something I’d go out in, although I’ve worn it to work as well.

I understand where the pickle comments are coming from, and only find that to be an issue if I overspray. I had to take a break from it for a while after over wearing it, leading me to be too sensitive to it. Be careful not to overspray. Now that my nose has “reset,” I’ll be enjoying this much more often after an evening shower.

Bought as a Santal 33 "dupe", discovered its beauty on its own merit

As someone who has always wanted to get into Le Labo fragrances, I could never get into Santal 33 no matter how much I've tried. I have been cursed with the misfortune of smelling the notes of dill pickles which I hate as a food and smell. So after searching for similar woody-like fragrances, this one came up on my feed and I had to try it. After smelling it at Sephora and testing it on my skin, it gave me the memory of when I went hiking in Portland, Maine with the tall cedar trees by the lake. The wood notes in this scent are not over powering and give an almost airy quality to it unlike other wood centric fragrances. This fragrance just screams "chic" to me, even if the word may be played out when describing anything artful. No. 04 has the Le Labo design language while being more than just a simple dupe of Santal 33, but great on its own merit with fantastic woody accords.

Tragic tale of incompatibility

This is a tragic fragrance for me. I love the scent of it on a tester strip: woody and warm with just enough spice. The perfect fall fragrance. It singlehandedly convinced me to buy a Maison Louis Marie sample set.

I sprayed it on myself for the first time one morning and then went about my day, working from home, and once it starts to settle into my skin, every time I move, I catch a whiff of something awful. It's a faint but distinct scent of poo. My first instinct is that there's something wrong with the toilet in my apartment, but that doesn't appear to be the source of the smell. I check the kitchen, but that's not it either. Only when I sit back down do I realize: it's me. I smell like poo.

I repeated this test on multiple different days with the same result each time. This is clearly interacting with my skin in a terrible way. Sadly not for me, though I wish it could be.

Spa cucumber drink

Great Santal 33 dupe but it’s less sweet/creamy and more powdery on the initial opening. It’s really nice. Once it dries down, they smell almost identical. So, it basically smells like a subtly sweet powdery spa cucumber drink. If you hate cucumbers/dill, you most likely won’t like this. It’s not cucumber/dill like in a bad way or a body oder way by the way. So if my comparison alarms you, rest assured, it smells nice.
