Grandma's garden
At first I was puzzled. A perfume that smells like tomato leaves? An unusual scent, but Maison Margiela rarely disappoints me. So I ordered the smallest size and opened my little Christmas present to myself with great anticipation. The first spritz smelled very flowery and fresh to me. After a few minutes, the fragrance develops; it becomes more earthy and noticeably greener.
Suddenly I'm standing in my grandma's garden. It's late summer, early 2000s. After sliding down the old red plastic slide several times with my sister, we decide to take a closer look at the bushes.
It's been a hot day, the last rays of sunshine are glistening on the water of the small stream and nature is breathing a sigh of relief after the scorching heat of the day. We were drawn to the tomato bush that my grandmother had lovingly tended. We picked a few tomatoes and ate them. The air smells of sun, leaves, earth and warm tomatoes. Our parents are getting ready to go home and call us. We put a few more berries in our pockets. My mother will no doubt be annoyed at home about the stains, but who can resist berries? The sun snuggles into the mountains and it gets dark. It will certainly be warm again tomorrow.
This fragrance suddenly catapulted me back to my childhood. The scent has won me over and I will most likely buy a larger size for the summer. This perfume is a little time capsule for me and I'm looking forward to opening it again soon.
