Where is the rum :”)

Good things about this perfume: it lasts a long time on skin, it projects, and the oil rollerball hasn’t gone bad in the last 1.5 years.

Bad things: it just smells like cheap apple scented shampoo. That’s it. I keep trying to give it a shot and every time I am bewildered that a fragrance with the word “dark” in it smells like a freshly showered teenager in 2009. I keep trying to give it to friends who are interested in fragrance and literally no one wants it.

Clean Girl Next Door

There was a time when I was younger I thought this body wash/ hand soap was the nicest, most expensive and special scent of all time, back before I had identified amber as my favorite fragrance note*. Thus, this perfume oil absolutely rocked my world when it came into my life- through the fall and the holidays and moving into a new apartment this perfume oil sufficed for any occasion. Dark Rum is clean yet rich and addictive (I don't really get associations with booze, it's more honeyed fruit/amber to me.), so much so that I have to go without it for a while so I can explore other perfumes and go on a journey to really know myself without its presence.

The oil formulation sits close enough to the skin that it doesn't fill a room, you'd have to get close to smell it but it Lingers through the day.. and through the many seasons of life. It's an unspecific type of spicy that isn't complicated - I could sort of associate it as a natural/feminine counterpart to Old Spice. It's the kind of scent that will have people tell you after a while that "you always smell so nice" and they really just think it's you. Try it on skin though of course, the sentiment I get from some reviews of this sounds like it smells so much more "vice-like"/boozy or too sweet. Fruity-gourmand is spot on imo. I couldn't have identified plum itself but definitely amber and a leather that comes across as nostalgic like a living room rather than masculine like a cigar room.

Dark Rum — The Montague Boys

I like Dark Rum, but I never feel quite comfortable wearing it. I feel like it doesn’t suit me, maybe. It smells…like Leonardo Dicaprio and the Montague boys from Baz Luhrman’s Romeo and Juliette—cocky, louche, and in full color.

It’s a sweet, fruity leather. I saw a Statement someone left about it smelling like a new car, which I can see. I like that it has a strong and definite personality. It might not be for everyone, but I like that it’s unmistakable. It can be intense in the heat and so I feel its best for cool evenings.

I feel like it’d pair well with the scent of cigarettes and the look of a boy carelessly raking his hands through his hair.
