An intoxicatingly beautiful scent
So I was looking at some white floral suggestions for Spring, when I told the sales assistant that I was quite fond of pear when blended with white florals. She went a little off the beaten track when she suggested Bois de Gaiac et Poire, or as it is usually referred to as, Close Your Eyes And... yet I am rather glad that she introduced this fragrance to me.

Initially I found this fragrance rather rich, spicy and intoxicating. It had an interesting, soft incensey vibe, which would probably entice me more in Winter. The pear wasn't instantly noticeable on my skin, nor was it any different on the card. I found the overall blend very oriental and woody.

It's hard to review this fragrance because it is so complex and changeable. It's slightly dark, yet its moderate sillage makes it very soothing. The most dominant accords to my nose are gaiac wood, custardy heliotrope, almond, cinnamon and pureed pear. I also detect a warm vanilla accord in the drydown.

I am quite taken with Bois de Gaiac et Poire, and I find it ticks all the right boxes. Even the packaging makes me smile, with a twig attached with a ribbon on the outer box.

I can't say that this fragrance is particularly fruity nor citrusy, it also doesn't strike me as a typical floral. Woodsy and musky with a touch of vanillic warmth is a more apt description.

Gaiac Wood for Comfort
Bois de Gaiac et Poire is less suitable for me, as Gaiac wood is not one of my favorite woods. It often goes in a round, warm, and somewhat vanillic direction. With perfumes that already have Gaiac in the name, I expect something corresponding.

The opening of this fragrance is somewhat unpleasant. At first, there is an intense, hairspray-like note. A chaotic scent that quickly settles down, but a certain sharpness remains initially. I attribute this to the pepper of the same name.

Otherwise, it goes in the expected woody-spicy direction, although both remain rather subtle. You don't buy natural wood furniture to spray it with this. Despite the corresponding ingredients (almond, cinnamon), a distinct gourmand character is also absent. And yet, I do perceive a hint of vanillic notes here; perhaps it’s due to the almond-cinnamon combination. The mentioned flowers are hardly noticeable; they do not appear prominently. With a bit of imagination, the pear aroma can also be detected, but only because it is listed in the pyramid. What is not in the pyramid is a hint of musk, which I believe I can perceive here. It occasionally pushes forward a bit, but without making the scent "soapy".

Similar to the previously mentioned Parfum trouvé, the warm, soft, and rather ambratic scent direction has been chosen. Perhaps this is the general line of this brand. I think the fragrance is truly pleasant and will surely find followers as a pronounced feel-good scent. Although I also consider it wearable for men, this perfume will likely appeal more to women.

The listed fragrance notes seem to have evaporated. I only smell clear wood, a bit of rose, and everything blends into a clean scent.

For me, it's a very harmonious, understated scent with a lot of rose. I've tested several rose fragrances and know none that compare.

On spraying, soft fruit with warm undertones, after about 1 hour a mild scent of tissue paper and cream.

I mostly smell rose. The rose is soft and slightly milky. But for me, it's almost a soliflore.

So beautiful it's almost edible. Perfect for the cold season. Smells like delicious pear dessert. I really like it.

Warm, mild-spicy, and then creamy. Pear & Guaiac are harmoniously intertwined, broken up by pepper & cinnamon. Almondy in heart & base.

Rose with a hint of cream - You can have it, but you don't have to.

Beginning - peppery rose, quickly followed by almond milk, heliotrope, and wood - creamy-floral, intimate. Kenzo Amour Vibes, just more grown-up.

Warm + soft rose comfort scent. Almond cream, cinnamon + wood make it cozy, jasmine + musk keep it fresh. Bright, light, well-groomed.
