Camel Ride Over The Desert
Viewing the desert sunset is an experience in itself – only observers can feel the royalty of the orange sun – slowly setting over the ocher desert horizon. Do you want to experience this exquisite natural canvas? Join me in my review of this Doha Sunset Desert Safari.

Sand Desert At Sunset unisex bombshell is a delicious blend of boozy, spicy, woody, and gourmand accords. It starts with a robust woody combination with an equally powerful alcoholic arrangement. Aged wood and spirit. If you’ve ever visited a cellar that produces ancient spirits, the smell that permeates the air combines the alcoholic liquid and the old wood of the casks. I get an unmentionable liqueur note mixed with the wood smoke and roasted tonka from the bottom. This initial aroma is not new to me, and I seem to remember a similar one in the "#Tobacco Collection - Rich/Warm/Addictive | Zara" perfume. Sweet and spicy cinnamon is lingering in the backstage, is looming, ready to explode in a short while. After testing and wearing it several times, with the weather announcing the arrival of autumn, I noticed some colors that I had missed the first time. There is a honeyed and smoky accord, which brings to mind a brownish honey made from tobacco flowers. It is not the classic smell of aromatic pipe tobacco, but as I said a tobacco honey, just as we can find chestnut, acacia, or eucalyptus honey. It's very good, and also very nice to smell.

The heart of Sand Desert At Sunset is a full gourmand accord that smells like cinnamon dough. Vanilla, tonka bean, and cinnamon form a delicious sticky dough accord. It’s like cinnamon cookies, apple pie, and any mouth-watering dessert with cinnamon powder. We have vanilla and cinnamon, which form a warm and rich amber. A caramel accent like that of dulce de leche is more evident than chocolate. These sweet and gourmand elements gradually push back the cinnamon, creating a better balance. Smoky and resinous touches of incense mix with spices, making the heart slightly smoky but not clerical.

As the scent develops, the sweetness remains constant, but the cinnamon fades, allowing some more woody underlying accords to emerge – cedar, perhaps, but definitely a light creamy sandalwood-like component. They work well with sweetness while also adding a slight dryness. There are also some powdery aspects. The iris is noticeable without prevailing. It’s buttery and powdery but not the center of attention like in Dior Homme Original (2011) Eau de Toilette or L'Homme Intense. Here it serves to recreate the sand of the desert dunes.

Aged spirit, spiced cinnamon, and roasted tonka show brilliantly in Sand Desert At Sunset. This is a genuinely exceptional scent, a superbly ripe gourmand that balances liqueur and spice notes with a subtle woodiness to keep the vanilla and chocolate from seeming almost cloying or overpowering and undermining the scent. Some people might find the contrast a little sweet and too sharp for them. However, it’s not one of the sweetest alcoholic scents I’ve ever smelled, nor is it too chocolaty, gourmand, or nutty. What remains on the blotter, even after a few days, is a hint of woody, boozy tobacco, similar to a moment of relaxation with a pipe and a good glass of barrel aged spirit.

ZARA released this collection at the beginning of the year, around mid-January, and this fragrance goes perfectly with the cold weather of the autumn and winter months. The result is an intoxicating fragrance with a woody background. The richness of its warm spices, intense resins, and smoked woods make it unsuitable for spring warmth or torrid summer heat. The duration and projection are below average, but it holds up well for an evening or a night. For the day and for work, it is dense and intense. An excellent and unexpected surprise.

I am basing my review on a bottle I have owned since March 2023.

Hot and seductive
Great launch from Zara, almost niche quality. It has the DNA of Angel's Share, but with less cinnamon than the original. Even so, you can feel his presence, without it being an overdose, a bit sickening, like with Kilian! Of course the depth of the original is superior to Sand Desert at Sunset, but for the price, it's hard to complain...

Performance was satisfactory, about 8 hours and projects from 2h to 3h moderately. It's not a bomb perfume, but I believe it's perfect for date night and colder nights. I use it especially in winter on cold days and nights. In warmer, more enclosed environments, its presence is noticeable, as we feel its projection around us. Great scent, super cozy!

Zara continues to impress with some perfumes, how do they do it?

Apple pie from store
This is not like my grandma's apple pie, it’s more like this one is from store, opening is really good. It’s cozy, sweet, little bit spicy but not too much. It reminds me my childhood a little, my mum and grandma baked apple pie but like I said earlier this is more lazy version, store bought one. Still I like this composition of scents, longevity is not so good, on my skin it lasts 3-5 hours. Projection is little bit better but still not good enough. But I can’t expect more from 22 euro per 100 ml fragrance. It’s super worth it and I highly recommend this if u want a date night fragrance because after those 4 hours is close skin scent.

Yummy baked goods
Let's start off correctly - this is not a clone of Angel's Share. AS has a very distinct cognac/apple brandy note and is much sweeter than Sand Desert at Sunset.

SDAS rather is doing its own thing, but it is undeniable that there might have been some inspiration. The smell is comforting, inviting, and warm.

The opening's orange and cinnamon leave you out like a bakery, in a great way that is never overpowering. The tonka and chocolate drydown is for me the most prominent part, and I do not smell an incense or iris note as listed. I wish there was a vanilla note on this, but it could have been disastrous.

Its a beautiful scent whose opening and dry down are very reminiscent to me of Hugo Boss' The Scent for Him, but with less freshness and leaning into the sweetness of the notes.

I got it as a Christmas Secret Santa gift (impressive choice by my uncle), so can't comment on value fairly. But damn, its a great pricetag for what you get. If you are into gourmand and sweet fragrances, please get your nose on this.

More accessible Angels' Share, spicy and sweet amber with hints of cognac
Zara Sand Desert at Sunset, a 2023 release that stuck out to me the most of any fragrance from them in recent memory, perhaps since Tobacco Rich/Warm/Addictive. The consensus seems to be that SDAS is a clone of By Kilian Angles’ Share but I find SDAS to be a bit more accessible. It’s sweet and spicy amber blend with notes of cinnamon and tonka, yielding a bit of the cognac vibe that’s in Angels’ Share, but a little lighter and more easygoing, overall, with decent performance. I think it’s at its best, a dusty sweet yet resinous blend, at its opening, as it curiously becomes a bit sharper and less sweet in the dry down, but the dry down is still nice, also.

At $35.90 US for 100ml EDP, it’s difficult for me to argue that its value is anything but quite high. More recently, the bottle style appears to have been change and an Intense version has been released.

A well-balanced gourmand. Brandy, cinnamon, a dominant and almondy tonka bean with the right sweetness, slightly smoky. Great for the price.

It’s a nice soft and sweet scent. Completely unisex. Just a pity that the performance is so weak. The weakest in my collection by far.

Dials back on the boozy gourmandness of Angels Share and turns up the woody incense notes. More spicy and masculine. Good stuff for cheap!

Am I the only one who noticed that the name of the perfumer has been mistyped on the bottle?

Aged spirit, spiced cinnamon, and roasted tonka show brightly. Ain't one of the sweetest boozy scents I’ve ever smelled. Great work Lapouza!

This one has something that reminds me of JPG ultramale but taking an oriental way. Good work by Lapouza.

The longevity and performance is great and one of the best from any Zara fragrance. This is worth sampling if you're into sweet ambers.

Its ok for the money, its Angles share minus the booze. Kismet Angle von Alhambra is waaaay more close for same-same money.

Overhyped imo. The orange note spoils the sent. A scent that after second tries becomes overpowering and boring.

A gourmand perfume that should be theoretically overwhelming. But no, it's smooth, not loud, it's warm and a bit intimate, yet inviting.
