Mature gourmand
This is a condensed review from my blog:
A new friend gifted me a little spray sample of this Luna EDT (and Nina EDT). My first thought when I sprayed this on was “Mmmmm….caramel!” It’s quite luscious. As time wore on, the florals began to shine while still snuggled in their caramel wrapper. This is a mature gourmand, suitable for both young and old. It is not too sweet, mostly because it isn’t fruity. It is sweet and powdery and floral in equal proportions, so I feel that keeps this gem grounded and not saccharine. The base notes contain sandalwood, and that’s pretty much how it ends.

I don’t smell any of those citrusy top notes, and I am not sure I’m smelling any “immortelle.” (Apparently, it’s other name is helichrysum, which I own in an essential oil.) I just get caramel, then some caramel-florals, and then sandalwood with a bit of musk thrown in. The vanilla must account for its creaminess.

The longevity is horrible; about 2-3 hours (it is an EDT). Sillage (i.e. projection) is average-to-weak. That being said, I do really like this one! It begins as a strong gourmand, but it doesn’t end that way, as it is fairly masculine in its drydown.

Most people seem to think it’s too sweet, and I agree it begins sweet, but I wouldn’t classify it as “TOO sweet,” or as strictly for teenagers, but for anyone who likes a bit of a sweet perfume.

The bottle is gorgeous, but I think the scent doesn’t match the blue apple. And the name “Luna” doesn’t match the blue apple or the scent. Very discordant.

I give it a solid 7 out of 10. If it had lasted longer, I might even have gone up to an 8 or 8.5. It’s still going on my full bottle want-list!

A Little Gourmand
You simply can't miss Nina Ricci's apple bottles in France. They are not just squeezed somewhere in between on the shelf but beautifully presented, so everyone can see them. Even I! And I had to sniff at one or the other from time to time, and Luna eventually got to come along.

What I also noticed in France is that there seem to be hardly any drugstore fragrances, like we have. No celebrity scents, no Mexx, no Bruno Banani, etc. Only large supermarkets like Monoprix occasionally carry fragrances of very questionable quality under their own brand. Young ladies who don't yet have the necessary pocket money for more expensive fragrances then opt for some cheaper designer scents. The absolute hit is, of course, Lolita Lempicka, and Luna fits right into that category but is much softer.

This blend of orange blossom, creamy caramel, and vanilla pleases me extraordinarily well here. It actually smells quite high-quality. Sweet but not overly sugary. I attribute this to the immortelle, which has always been one of my favorites among fragrance ingredients and has a wonderfully spicy scent. Online, it says it reminds one of curry. For me, however, immortelle smells more like hay. In any case, it integrates well into the fragrance and prevents it from becoming too sweet. The wild berries mentioned in the fragrance pyramid are actually only very subtly perceptible, based on a slight freshness in the top note that quickly fades away. Otherwise, there are no major changes until the scent fades after about 5 hours. Towards the end, it becomes very nicely sandalwood-like. In many cheaper fragrances, sandalwood is often just a diffuse hint, but here it is distinctly noticeable. And that lasts for several hours without needing to over-apply.

Now I've practically recited the fragrance pyramid, but in this case, you really smell exactly what it says, and it is finely tuned together.

What makes Luna seem a bit flat is its rather restrained sillage. However, this makes the fragrance suitable for year-round wear and interesting for those who like to wear something gourmand in summer without standing out too much.

So, if you appreciate a not too strong and youthful (but not overly so) gourmand fragrance, I give this one my recommendation. Luna truly deserves more attention. For relatively little money, you get something quite fine.

Luscious, sweet caramel beginning; mature--almost masculine--finish. A very nice fragrance for any age.

Opens heavily lime and licorice, with some background florals. Caramel (and more florals) midway before the musky-woody dry down.

Golden-brown caramel and warm vanilla, orange blossom (which I like here) and immortelle create an alluring, loving scent with a delicate sweetness.

What does a sweet scent have in common with the word LUNA? A bit gourmand and sweet, but not like the sugary sister Nina, it smells unremarkable.

At first sharp and somewhat uneven. After about 30 minutes, it becomes a beautiful, not overly sweet, delicate gourmand. Absolutely suitable for everyday wear.

It seems more focus was put on the look here...the scent is fruity-sweet, but somehow faint and lacking the typical Nina DNA.

The scent notes unfortunately turned out to be overall weak. A light, fresh fragrance. Pleasant but a bit lackluster...
