My favourite green tea scent
I am a big fan of teas aside from fragrances, and I've been on a hunt for the perfect green tea scent signature for a year now and I've finally found it.

Opens up bright, crisp and green with the tea right in your face, giving that iced green tea with lemon feel, right after the first few seconds litsea comes to the front and boosts the scent into a spa. The scent bubble for the first hour or so will be a spa experience alongside some tea.

After that though the green-ness fades a little and gets replaced with a combo of yuzu, fig skin and some herbs and it gives me the impression of being laid out on a massage table and you can smell those oils that they put on you. Until it finally evolves into soft-spicy green musk.

This is THE only scent I've smelled that simultaneously feels optimistic, energizing and relaxing at the same time. So good in fact that I've made it my signature. MUST try.

An amazing reformulation
Litsea is a fruit of a small evergreen tree native to the Far East.
It is said that angels like its scent so much that they are deeply grateful when we spread its aroma.
An aromatic, slightly citrusy aroma that reinforces the opening of this splendid fragrance created by one of the most talented noses in perfumery: Rasquinet.
The green tea notes, always accompanied by aromatic accents, do nothing but make this fragrance energizing, very pleasant, with a more incisive personality than the already wonderful Wulong Cha.
Here, from the X line, this is a very perfect, harmonious and sparkling reformulation.
I like.

Stick with the original!
I really, really liked the original Wulong Cha, even though I would have found the scent more appropriate in a luxurious spa than on skin. I don't dislike this X version either, but I couldn't use the words "I like it a lot" with a clear conscience.

The two Wulong-Cha's don't seem that similar to me. In Wulong I, the cubeba litsea covers everything from my perspective, sending the tea somewhere in the back. By contrast, in Wulong II, the green tea note is obvious even to me, and the litsea is barely noticeable, dominated by bergamot at the top of the pyramid. The main battle is between the green tea and the white magnolia (that easily recognizable magnolia accord once you've repeatedly smelled perfumes that list the note, but which has not the slightest connection to the real magnolia). I don't know if in this case it's the happiest of combinations, it seems to me that the tea somehow turns the magnolia sour and that's not exactly ideal.

At first glance, it vaguely reminds me of two other perfumes, and the two are neither the original Wulong nor Green Tea, but Magnolia en Fleurs (Avon) and Amyris Femme (MFK). Somewhat ironically, my favorite of the three is the outsider Magnolia en Fleurs.

Good performance.

Mellow green tea with thyme that morphs into a spicy floral figs with musk
I still detect a mellow citrus fragrance as soon as I applied the perfume to my skin, but this time, there's a herbal, almost floral accord underneath that seems to cut through everything. Tea this time is green: a more fresh take on Wulong Chà. Citrus fruits end up leaving in favor of a green tea flavored with thyme. The latter adds freshness and a bit of spiciness. After awhile, magnolia takes the center stage and stays until the end. I thus end up with a tinge of green tea, supported by floral musks and a hint of figs. The drydown evlves into this spicy forward perfume with magnolia and musky figs. The green tea has been choked out by the spice.

Magnolia takes way too much space on my skin for me to add this perfume to my collection and the drydown is definitely not to my taste. Floral musky figs turn into this weird plasticky scent that I really did not enjoy. I wish green tea had stayed a little longer as it was quite refreshing and unmarred by other notes.

The Best of the X Collection
I was overall disappointed with the X collection sample set, they all seem the same but with minor differences between them. Except this one, it one stands out from the rest. Its such a unique citrus. At first its like the peel of a fruit, bitter and a little bit sweet. The best part is that citrus doesn't go away, it blends in with the tea, thyme, and magnolia to make a slightly bitter citrus earthy chamomile like scent. That middle blend lasted for some hours. It will eventually start to dry down into a sweet and slightly earthy musk. This scent lasted for at least 6 hours on my skin. It projected well, especially for a citrus and musky scent. Its the perfect scent for working in an office, it projects enough to catch people's attention but not so much where you get into called into HR.

THE brightest, greenest, zingyest opening I've ever experienced. The magnolia adds a depth and softness not in the original. Top 5 for me

Primarily citrus & white floral, a lot less pronounced on the tea than the original. Quite a bit smoother on-skin while also being lighter.

Just tiny tweaks compared to the original. Still an ordinary citrus-tea that is extraordinarily long-lasting for the genre

A fresh, mellow green tea with thyme. Ends up morphing into spicy floral figs with musk. Wishing green tea had stuck a little longer.

Less sparkly and watery than the original, denser, less playful. Earl-grey-ish with fruity creaminess, heavily skewed towards green tea.
