Is This Sufi Style?
Only about 55 USD plus shipping plus taxes are the costs for Oudh Al Anfar's Dehnal Oud Suyufi. For this price, you get 35 ml Spray perfume, elaborately packed and filled in a bulky, cylindric glass flacon: in case of emergency, it could also be used as a striking weapon!
There are a few things one should know about the Arab Dehnal Ouds: Most of the less expensive perfumes which carry the title “Dehnal” obviously are not pure natural oud oil perfumes. Instead, one has to accept additions. However, I have not yet met any dehnal oud where natural oud oil was not detectable at all, at least in tiny amounts. Natural oud oil has a considerably different smell than the substitutes that dominate the current Western oud hype.
Oudh Al Anfar's inexpensive Dehnal Oudh Suyufi is no exception. However, I would assign this fragrance to the category “Amber & Spices”, named after a certain spicy Montale fragrance.
A very vague and fleeting floral note salutes us after having applied Dehnal Oudh Suyufi. It fades away immediately. Present from the start is a combination of smoky amber and a somewhat Christmas-style or gingerbread spiciness which is so characteristic for the mentioned Montale perfume. Since I already own that Montale, I regretted blind-buying Dehnal Oudh Al Suyufi at first. But slowly, Dehnal Oud Suyufi shows its hidden side which makes it a bit different: a kind of animal woodiness that may be rooted in a tiny amount of real natural oud oil – something the Montale scent seems to be missing. Presumably, further woody notes support the bitter an tart aspect.
Dehnal Oud Suyufi is an accentuated intense and masculine perfume. Don't expect flowers and musk or anything amiable. Without the spiciness Dehnal Oud Suyufi would resemble a lot the very tart Al Rehab's Arooq Al Oud, and towards the drydown, this resemblance becomes more and more visible. Individuality and uniqueness apparently are not the main focus in Arab perfumery, it looks like they have a rather clearly arranged scent spectrum which they vary again and again. I wonder if the spiciness can be taken as the Sufi style (Al Suyufi) – a denomination that is being used for quite a number of sprays and oils of different manufacturers.
Longevity and sillage are okay. Again, it is deplorable that it is so difficult to test Dehnal Oudh Suyufi. Samples are not available. This tart and spicy amber respectively oud perfume can appeal to some dedicated perfume lovers, but maybe not many. I got mine from asf-dubaishop.
