My third review of the Note di Colonia series from AdP deals with
Note di Colonia IV. After the
Note di Colonia II only moderately convinced me, and the
Note di Colonia III was better, the
Note di Colonia IV is a middle ground. Somehow I want to like it, but the spark just doesn’t ignite.
So, how does the fragrance smell and how did I come to this conclusion?
- The opening of
Note di Colonia IV is very fresh, similar to the other colognes, with bergamot and mandarin contributing to this.
- Then a rose note joins in, which is not potent, but rather in the vibe of light rose water, and bright. The orange blossom is only slightly perceptible. It's somehow strange; you start off very fresh and then get an artificial rose water note added, which sounds cool, but doesn’t smell cool.
- In the drydown, the fragrance gets slightly better; resinous, balsamic due to the slightly resinous-sweet labdanum and opoponax. Yes, together with the rose it has a slight oriental touch, but somehow the overall picture is not so harmonious for me at least.
- The sillage and longevity are better than the other two fragrances, but we must not forget, it still has a low concentration, which is simply challenging given the price tag.
In summary; you have to like it, you have to be into fresh scents with rose water and this resinous quality in the drydown. Absolutely no blind buy recommendation, even though the drydown is nice.
