A new man, a new fragrance...
... mülhens promoted his "Sumatra Rain" offensively in the 90s with this slogan (in addition to the obligatory Schönling). And even if this is of course about Rainforest by Pino Silvestre, I can't avoid a cross reference to the classic drugstore at that time. For the two have more in common than just their names.
Granted, it's been a long time since I've had Sumatra Rain under my nose. And yet it immediately reminded me when I tested Rainforest. Not really in the sense of a twin fragrance, but still stylistically and in structure related. Rainforest starts very fresh with a juicy citrus mixture and at the same time with a slightly pointed, green accord, which reminds me not only of herbs (especially sage), but also of green fruits. As soon as the lavender and the wood notes shine through, the fragrance gets a warm undertone that lasts until the end. This combination of fresh-fruity-green ground tone and sultry-sweaty (?) twist was actually THE distinguishing feature of Sumatra Rain and probably that's why I feel so reminded of it.
Irrespective of whether the two are more or less similar, Rainforest immediately put a big grin on my face because of his style. Maybe a glorified '90 flashback. Or is it possible that at the age of 40 there is already a slight hint of age-related mildness? Whatever. I just sniffed it again and I'm smiling again. :-)
But - and this is a big BUT: the joy here is unfortunately not of long duration. As long as the memory doesn't deceive me, even the green Mülhens was no powerhouse. Pino Silvestre's gonna put another one on it, in a negative sense. More than three hours is not possible with this fragrance. The whole also with very dimmed radiant power. Afterwards only a little sandalwood remains on the skin. That's too bad
And yet. As weak as the performance may be, I undoubtedly like it very much. Even if it is only for a short time journey at a small price
