The Illusion of Scent
There it stands, the silvery-glossy, slightly transparent skull in all its tastefully misguided glory. Any deserved stone's throw at it is inappropriate here, as the bottle holds everything that the product photos promise: It looks just as much like a gimmick from a Gothic shop. It is not beautiful, but in a twisted way, it is charmingly trashy.

Equally charming is its price - with which I have already named the two purchase-deciding factors that, along with my sometimes slightly morbid desire for meaningless impulse buys, propelled this scent into my shopping cart.

Let's stick with the price: My nose does not care about bottles - and finds the content at best price-appropriate. In other words: one should not ask for more for this homage to mediocrity. Whether I am encountering a Fierce dupe here, I cannot judge; A&F's scent is simply unknown to me. If the assessments of the Parfumisti are correct, then I graciously forgo any encounter with Fierce (and admire the company's marketing...).

Interestingly, I also experience an olfactory déjà-vu in the heart note. However, I do not come across Abercrombie & Fitch; I unexpectedly encounter an old scent love from which I had to part ways with slight disgust at some point. More on that later.

In the paper test, not even the top note manages to deliver the slightest bit of charm: it does not smell fresh, but only biting - a confusingly aimless stench of deodorants digs into the incredulously sniffing nose. Was I beamed into the changing room of a McFit branch?

On the skin (and that's ultimately what counts), The Illusionist does not present itself as unpleasant: I smell a mixture of aquatic freshness and an aroma faintly reminiscent of lemon, along with another note that imitates fruitiness: That must be the orange. Not unexpectedly, a color joins in that is presumably meant to convey masculinity. Is that the ivy?

My interest wanes; I turn to other things. Approximately 90 minutes later, a thought unexpectedly shoots through my mind: Seattle.
Seattle? Right - Washington, Space Needle, Boeing, Puget Sound, etc. I am slightly disturbed: Where does that come from again?

At that moment, I remember my scent test. I consciously sniff my forearm - and smell exactly that rotten fruitiness that once made me turn away from Calvin Klein's Escape Men in the 90s. I had loved that scent so much. It goes without saying where we formed our friendship: I bought the first bottle in 1994 in Seattle. Afterwards, I remained loyal to the scent for a good 2 years. Perhaps I was too monogamous, because at some point I no longer smelled the fruity freshness that had initially excited me, but only rotten fruit. Nevertheless, Escape remains in my olfactory memory inseparably linked to Seattle, and that memory is - despite the dirty (scent) separation - extremely pleasant.

In the heart note, I find hardly anything of what the fragrance pyramid suggests; there I experience an Escape dupe, admittedly a bit more metallic in its impression and slightly synthetic - as if perfumers had played a somewhat successful game of Telephone with their formulas. The result - dupe or not - does not really convince me; the time travel is somewhat reconciling.

Theoretically, there should still be something going on in the dry down - I sniff out no more than a minimal woodiness of the scent. In any case, the liquid loses its air so early that the dry down begins just a few hours after the start. Its most notable feature is the gracious fading of the scent remnants. What remains is the mushy aroma of a slightly bolder scented drugstore body lotion.

So bad? No - but in contrast to Scentist, I note that the scent indeed smells cheap. Perhaps it can perform better on someone else's skin. It certainly smells more bearable than the arch-enemy of my nose - but it lacks almost everything necessary to start an affair with it. Even for a fling, it barely suffices - quite the opposite: Probably, The Illusionist is the ideal companion when it comes to bringing a hastily arranged date to a swift end - not because it triggers escape reflexes in the other person. It is rather the ambition-free arbitrariness that stifles any interest in its infancy.

Sorry, skull: in the end, you are just a taste-irritating decorative object in which a liquid happens to slosh around.

PS: One thought did occur to me: why on earth is the scent called Illusionist? Perhaps it is so faceless that it gives every wearer the illusion of an olfactory déjà-vu?

The All-Rounder
among fragrances. First of all, one must defend this scent. Many here seem to no longer focus on what makes a fragrance. The fact that a scent smells good. It sometimes comes across as if cheaper fragrances must be rated poorly, even if they do not deserve it.
Well, much about To Be "The Illusionist" feels familiar... To Be is not reinventing the wheel with this fragrance. No, they are improving on what already exists!! Aquatic scents are as plentiful as sand on the beach, but this one is in a class of its own. The opening is a strong orange that hits you, but it quickly fades, allowing a light sage note to follow while in the background, this subtle musk note always chimes in. It is truly a very pleasant scent that can be worn for all, and by that, I mean all occasions.

It has something unmistakable, and I really like that about this fragrance. Well, the bottle comes across as rather understated, at least it doesn't suit my taste, but the content is what counts, and it knows how to convince. The bottle certainly appeals to the teenage generation, but the scent can be worn by more than just them. On a day when I simply want to enjoy watching a football game or even a casual trip to the cinema with friends, I love to wear it. And the amazing thing is, it lasts a long time on me for an aquatic scent, meaning up to 8 hours.

With a price of €19.95 for 40 ml, you can't go wrong with this fragrance.

Please do not judge fragrances by their price, and do not be so eager to extract the slightest positive from every expensive scent. There are plenty of expensive fragrances that also smell terrible. Just because a fragrance is simply structured but still smells good, it does not deserve a bad rating.

The Illusionist, on the other hand, lives up to its name, and you know what you get for the price. A pleasant, urban scent.

Where there’s a skull, there’s also hardness and danger? With this scent, hardly.
I received this perfume as a gift.
I don’t own any other fragrances from the brand Police and I must honestly say, I’m not particularly interested in them either.

The scent is nothing extraordinary. It has a hint of cashmere and cedarwood, which is quite nice. The fruity note that I perceive at the beginning is really not my thing. I don’t particularly like orange, perhaps that’s why I have a personal aversion to the top note.

It’s not overpowering, rather it holds back. However, I miss the musk. I can hardly perceive it.
It doesn’t convey much to its wearer. Other perfumes can keep up better and evoke an extraordinarily brilliant feeling.
Personally, I associate nothing with this scent. I’m grateful for the gift, but that’s about it.
To be honest, it can be worn in everyday life, or simply at home when you have unimportant visitors.

I would rate the longevity of the perfume as satisfactory.
The character the same. More sensuality and hardness would visibly benefit this perfume. Less orange would be particularly advantageous for me ^^

But well, to each their own :)
The bottle, however, is very good. Skulls are in right now! However, I would dip the bottle in black ;0)
A skull conveys different things and not what was described above. Orange or the like. Not to mention danger.
Illusions with this scent... well. I can’t really imagine that.
But if someone likes it, they should wear it. Tastes are so different. Thank God.

One should not look a gifted Fierce-double in the mouth
Christmas - the season of gifts. And when everyone knows your hobby, many of these presents should be fragrant, right? Not so fast. I also don't like to give friends things that are exactly related to their hobbies. Too much risk that they already own the gift, don't like it (and are right), or find it too cheap. So I could understand well if I hadn't received any perfume this year. But then this kitschy-silver Douglas skull flew in, even with shower gel - and I can't really complain that much. Clearly a Fierce copy, even scratchier, more synthetic, and less rounded. But still usable, versatile, hip. It also strikes similar notes as Chopard's Heaven or Joop's Nightflight, just 2 classes worse.

Aquatic, piercing, somewhat fruity, very fresh. Old, alcoholic aftershave so diluted, modernized, and made modern that it appeals to the youth. Just a bit too piercing, scratchy, especially at the beginning. It doesn't smell good and is unpleasant, but then it gets better and fiercer. In its bad phases, it eerily reminds one of Axe deodorant - brrr. Woody, mossy, maritime. Just everything on a flickering holodeck of a plastic Enterprise. But still, please don't despise it too much and rate it poorly, as the scent almost makes it better than more expensive copies like MontBlanc Legend.

Bottle: cheesy, but at least handy and with surprisingly good sprayer.
Sillage: not as strong as the original.
Longevity: 6 hours of fleeting refreshment at the lowest level.

So the scent is better than its reputation, price, or bottle would suggest. But still, Fierce owners will hardly wear it often, rather even pass it on. Maybe I'll explore the other 2 To Be scents at some point and see if they are also cheeky, somewhat inferior copies of famous fragrances.

The Illusionist
I only got to know the silver skull last week, and without hesitation, I took it home and tried it out there.

The scent is lightly fresh, spicy-woody. I couldn't perceive any exact notes, like with To Be. Although it doesn't have a real structure, I still find it good.
The first 45-60 minutes it projects well, beyond an arm's length, but after about 2 hours, it loses its strength; you can't expect much more from a dead one.
On clothing, it lasts better, but the projection still suffers from it.

I like the bottle the most. I like all Police bottles because they exude individuality and humor.
Just like with Le Male, there is a safety feature for the sprayer, which is very helpful when taking it somewhere. In this respect, it is also quite handy, unlike other bottles.

Lightly woody yet fresh everyday scent for a small budget. Nice spray head. Longevity and sillage adjusted for the price.

The scent is fresh and not overpowering. However, it's nothing special.
It's okay as an everyday fragrance.

The flashy silver skull isn't that bad at all.
Fresh-aquatic, summery with green tendencies.
Not a shame in between. :)
