Fresh Flowers
In mid-May, life in NRW slowly returned to a semblance of normalcy. Other federal states didn’t want us there, so the so-called nearby surroundings offered themselves for day trips. Looking back on this summer, which was completely different, it was a very nice thing. Instead of heading to the far north, we went next door to Venlo, which isn’t far for us. Exactly a year ago, after not having been there for decades, I rediscovered the small Dutch border town and fell in love with it.
Driving on empty highways, which we don’t know here at all, we arrived in Venlo very early on that Monday in May. The city, usually clogged with tourists, was empty, and one could sense the charm of the small town by the Maas, as it is without tourists.
To stock up on Asian groceries and spices, we headed to the yellow-blue supermarket at the marketplace. Many shops in the Netherlands open only in the afternoon on Mondays. Thus, this store was empty as well. I struck up a conversation with a very nice saleswoman, keeping my distance, about various spices. Time and again, a pleasantly floral scent wafted over from her. I quickly asked her about the fragrance, and she laughingly pointed me to the drugstore section. There was Joyus, and she said she wore that scent.
Off I went, as I wanted to go there anyway. A quick test, it fits, into the cart, because my husband was already making a face like sour pickles. At home, I then tested the fragrance in peace. The beginning reminded me a bit of Christmas. That must have been the mandarins. Quickly, a floral fresh mix joined in, where none of the flowers dominated. With the citrusy start, it was very successful. The finish was a bit bitter, but still floral, citrusy, and fresh. I thought to myself, this would be my summer scent for 2020. Although the longevity is a maximum of 2 1/2 hours, at that affordable price, one can easily reapply.
The bottle is very similar to that of the large relatives from Paris. On my next visit to Venlo, I brought back several bottles across the border, as things can change daily with the jump next door.
