...parfait...
About the vintage version of EAU de ROCHAS:
I could wear this day after day, but it's too precious (a vintage!). It fits like a well-worn white shirt.
This is not for women only/for men only, not for summer or autumn nor winter only, but for every season.
I recognize myself in it, early days, teenage days, student days - today.
Maybe after years of sniffing and testing of other fragrances, the moment will come when all other scents will be washed away from my collection and only "Eau de Rochas" will prevail. The perfect EAU.

The Scent of Water
Imagine a clear stream of water bubbling over large smooth black pebbles, with lush green banks on either side, the grass and herbs trailing in the water. Now bottle it, and voila you have Eau de Rochas. This is a staple spritz for hot weather or feeling under the weather. Refreshing, uplifting and totally great!

Clone de Ô
Despite containing lime, mandarin, lemon, grapefruit and bergamot, this doesn't feel like a cologne.
The structure is confused; lacking coherence, the various blocks do not pull together and somewhere between the citrus, dry powder and a sour floral note it loses its way.
In the modern version the result is well described as 'queasy' by RachelGrigg on another fragrance review website.

Appearing a year later than the simpler and superior dark mossy citrus of Ô de Lancôme in a virtually identical bottle, it is tempting to speculate that this was a 'me too' version that copied the form but didn't understand the spirit of the thing. It just doesn't work.

Classy without being pretentious
I love Eau de Rochas! I love the bottle, love the juice.
Strange as it may sound: wearing it, I almost get thirsty and, simultaneously, it quenches my thirst :-)!
The citrussy notes are there but, in dry-down, they are tamed down by the flowery notes that make this a bit more perfume-y than many other colognes.
Whiffs of what I thought would be carnation, feel familiair to me, but on Rochas' website carnation is not-or no longer (?) mentioned.
It's strange how it performes where it concerns longevity though...one day it lasts on me, an other day it seems to last shorter, but I find it no problem to re-apply. Sillage is moderate as long as it lasts. I could prolong the scent the other day by putting it on top of a bodylotion by the brand Vaseline, but it did not do the projection any good, asif the scent was locked inside the lotion (if that makes sense :-)). Ceravé unscented bodycream (the one in the jar) works much better.
I just tried the bodylotion of Eau de Rochas too, but I find that more citrussy and I am not sure if it does justice to the scent. Have to experience with the combination a bit longer maybe before I can judge it.
But I love, love this fragrance and find myself reaching for this more often than for my (far more expensive) Dior 'Eau Fraiche' which I also love, but which is more citrussy and which has a 'tea-like' note that I like less than the flowery, slightly more sweet notes in Eau de Rochas.

Luxurious lemondrops
I have always loved lemon. The smell, the colour, the taste. I remember a certain kind of drops my grandma used to have in a small metal box. They were the best! So sour it made your face itch and your teeth grind. Just wonderful!
Eau de Rochas has that special lemon note, that I love. When I first sprayed it on I thought of Ô de Lancome, an old love of mine from when I was 9-10 years old and tried it at my grandma’s place. But there are differences. Eau de Rochas is sweeter in a way and not so heavy. Combined with the fresh, mossy note this is definitely a fragrance to have in your collection. It takes you on a short but lovely journey among citric and green notes. On my skin the heart notes never appear but the drydown is as beautiful and intriguing as the beginning with the oakmoss being the dominant note. The journey lasts 3-4 hours. Sillage is close to the skin.
Nicolas Mamounas is the nose behind this. He has done a great job, as he did on e.g. Byzance, another favourite of mine.
The bottle is so delicate! The lovely pattern in the glass gives it an exclusive look.

Fresh citrus in its purest form, with floral nuances, on a warm and woody base. It is a very elegant combination.

Citrusy-aromatic, it 's quite similar to O de Lancome, but maybe more classic and unisex. A timeless refreshing cologne for the hottest days
