Mature classic
I will start off by saying that I'm 18 years old, and I love this scent. Madame Rochas is sophisticated, sensual, sexy and alluring. I was actually rather surprised that this had aldehydic notes, because to my nose I got a lot of spiciness and flowers.

The scent is warm and distinctive. It exudes elegance and control. When settled on the skin the scent becomes powdery, but not sharp or soapy. The scent maintains its spiciness from beginning to end.

I love that Madame Rochas manages to match the class and distinction of a Chanel fragrance, but still remains affordable.

While wearing this scent, I can guarantee that people will observe you for having impeccable taste. This scent defines you as a woman. Madame Rochas is a classic scent from the mid 1900's that every woman should have added to her collection.

A true lady
Do you know Madame Rochas? She is from when a true lady wore gloves, whenever she went outside the house - and long gloves at dinner parties. From when skirts were just below the knee. From when pearls were essential, just as much as earrings and hats. From when a lady wore stockings and a garterbelt. Even though the pantyhose had just been invented the year before in 1959 she would not consider buying a pair - such newfangled nonsense!
The beginning of the 60s is well represented in this magnificent classic fragrance. Not knowing that in less than a decade the world, the fashion and the lady would have changed completely. I adore Madame Rochas for its elegant expression. I always feel like wearing heels and hat when I wear this scent. I have the edc, the edt and parfum, and the parfum is something else. One of its kind. Guy Robert, who is the nose behind Calèche (which I really like), has created this beautiful scent which shows his huge talent for making good perfumes. So well balanced, so warm and so unforgettable.
I have an original 4,8ml. I worship and treasure it.

Memories of my mother's love
When my mum got married in 1967 she was wearing this perfume in the edt versión. One of her best school days friends gave it to her as a wedding present in the large 500ml bottle with a white bakelite cap that I still have.

The wedding took place in the afternoon of a late december day. She was wearing an ivory white wild silk long sleeve dress of minimalist style but doubtless elegance. Madame Rochas was the perfect choice.

Through out the years of my childhood I saw the content of that beautiful tall perfume bottle slowly disappear. My mum used it dabbed in her pulse and neck. It will always make me revive my young mum's caresses, kisses and hugs.

Years later

A Wonderful Woman
I grew up in the 60s in an 11-apartment rental building. My parents worked, often on weekends, and I was often left to myself or with my older sisters (12 and 8 years apart). One could say that my oldest sister raised me, for which I am grateful. She would have preferred to just be a child instead of always having to be the responsible one. But that’s not what I want to focus on now. On the 4th floor lived our neighbor, Aunt L., she was a war widow and the soul of the house. She was about 10 years older than my parents, and her children were already out of the house. She took care of everyone in the building, ensuring that the house was decorated for confirmations and communions, collecting money and buying gifts. Those who were sick were cooked for, and the hallway was cleaned for them. It was neighborly help in a form of charity that I have never experienced again. The atmosphere in the building was - except for a “Mrs. Kling” - simply good. Without gossip and chatter, Aunt L. was just there when help was needed, without ever being intrusive. She raised me with love, with strictness, but always fairly. When I jumped down the 12 steps in youthful exuberance (it echoed so beautifully when I hit the loose stone slab), her door would open, and I would call out: “Yes, Aunt L., I know!” And for the rest of the 3 floors, I walked properly. From my teenage years on, she gave me fragrances for my birthday, e.g., Janine D., which she bought for me in a tiny drugstore around the corner, where everything from cleaning products to Hormocenta cream was tightly stacked in shelves up to the ceiling. I was really only keen on her scent. When she left the house and went into the city, she made herself pretty and neat and applied her fragrance. The entire hallway simply smelled wonderful of blossoms, bright and cheerful. I would have loved to stay in the hallway until the last whiff of scent had disappeared. She never revealed to me which fragrance she used, …“you’re too young for that, later…“ She died of cancer when she was in her mid-60s, far too early. Years later, I smelled Madame Rochas for the first time, and immediately images from the 60s surfaced, and I felt transported back to my childhood. Today, I am sure that was the fragrance Aunt L. wore. A wonderful, elegant scent for accomplished, independent, wonderful women.

Love Letter to a "Great Lady"
When I first got to know "Madame Rochas" at the end of the sixties, people still said - and I believe, not just in my circle - "Parföng".
Aside from water and soap, "Badedas" and nivea cream (of course, I mean "Niveacreme" - sorry!) were the ultimate at that time.
A friend of my mother's who used "Maja" soap was regarded like a rare animal. Because even "Lux soap" in yellow, green, light blue, and pink packaging was quite something. After all, Elke Sommer, Karin Dor, Nadja Tiller, and Senta Berger stood for that, with their pictures displayed in an oval on the packaging.
But "Maja" soap?

Why my mother brought home "Madame Rochas" back then, I really don't know. She was actually the "water and soap" type until almost her death. So it must have been more or less a coincidence that she came across this fragrance.
Or perhaps, and this possibility exists: she was tired of my cream perfumes from Avon and was looking for something completely different.

Well, whatever the case may be: "Madame Rochas" entered my life. What a magnificent thing it was!
Until then, my friends and I only knew the mentioned Avon scents and, of course, in keeping with the times, lavender - "ancient" and "with the stagecoach". We considered "Bamboo" a significant step towards adulthood. (We certainly fancied we already were.)

And now I came with "my Madame"! In this time of sexual revolution (which honestly interested us little) and miniskirts, this elegant French lady burst onto the scene!

I don't need to reminisce about this scent. I managed to get one of the original bottles in the beige box with Petit-Point embroidery in brown tones.
I had to glue the box just to keep it out of pure nostalgia. The fragrance was unopened and flawless. The bottle is so classic, almost neoclassical in form.

The timeless elegance of this floral chypre fascinates me time and again. What a variety of flowers and woods were almost lavishly assembled for this scent.
All of it melds together softly and without edges or corners.
No matter how often I have tried in the past months, I can never discern individual components: it is always the whole that enchants me.
Yes, this old-fashioned expression belongs to "my Madame".

The longevity is truly above average. Even after hours, "Madame Rochas" envelops its wearer wonderfully, without becoming stale or dull.

I was surprised when I read that the Rochas house launched this fragrance only in 1960.
I had assumed that it - like many fragrances from great French designers - came onto the market in the twenties or thirties.
However, it is quite possible that "Madame Rochas" is a late-born child.
Because as early as 1944, Edmont Roudnitska was asked by Marcel Rochas to create "Femme".

For me, "Madame Rochas" always evokes a luxurious, very feminine space where one can and may be "fully woman."
A room with large mirrors, big powder boxes with tassels, a gallery of bottles and jars - and several meters of wardrobe.

Even today, there are moments when twinsets and pearl necklaces are not so wrong.
"We are always playing," says Schnitzler. Wouldn't it be nice to occasionally play a role where "Madame Rochas" can be a little extra?
Or perhaps even the prompter in particularly difficult passages of life?

I tested many and many times , but I can say that it doesn't work on me. It's a ladylike fragrance very elegant, but difficult to wear

I can't say I love it. But I admire this perfume. Elegant, beyond any doubt. Not flashy, not sweet. Très français.

One of the rare wonderfully harmonious-balanced-superb complex old Chypres. Nothing overwhelms, not even the oak moss.

Similar to White Linen, but with a lot of oak moss and leather (no leather in it, maybe it's the vetiver?).
Beautiful elegant classic.

Chypre always works for me... but I really don't like aldehydes - so we won't be friends - what a shame.
