Modern Fougère!
When this came out in 2020, i immediately became interested on it, mainly for 2 things. First, i love many other offering from the brand, and second, was created by Bruno Jovanovic, who doesn't have many designers on their portfolio, but is a great nose.

I bought it in the end of that year, blindly. When i smelled it for the first time, it reminded me of K Eau de Toilette which i like but i find it a bit light in the drydown. So, i also liked this one, right off the bat. The problem here is that this one has some molecule that, sometimes, annoys me a bit and gives me some "headaches". This is probably a synthetic amberwood or something a-like.

Anyway, i wore this a lot to really test it during work, casual events, at home, date nights, etc... half the bottle gone and i became a fan of it.

How does it smell? Fresh-sweet, masculine and modern. It starts off fresh and super contemporary. Sweet blue vibe in the vein of Bleu but with more fruitiness. I detect that sweet blood orange mixed with the juicy pineapple and after a couple of minutes, the geranium. And i find the geranium the key to this one. Fresh bitter green mintiness of the geranium mixed with the fruitiness and with that Fougère backbone (Moss and patchouli with a bit of tonka bean to maintain the sweetness of the top notes).

It's really modern but, at the same time, with a classic backbone, giving substance and masculinity. After 1h, the fruitiness fades away and the aromatic heart bacame the main player, again, with geraium and a bit of basil/juniper berries palying together for this great aromatic fougère finale.

Super strong stuff! Projection is great in the first 2h and the longevity is 12+ hours, easily. It's a compliment getter too, which is a bonus. The caviar here is the modern molecule that sometimes appears to turn me off a bit. It would be a 5/5 for me if it wasn't that molecule. But it's not super strong and irritating like in many other new fragrances nowadays, specially beacuse of the strong classical base.

Rochas L'Homme is super versatile, well composed and super recommendable for it's modern fougère concept. If you like aromatic fougeres and want a modern take on it, this is a great pick up. Btw, I think this is far supperior to Moustache EDP, which i find boring and very linear.

PS: The bottle is also beautiful and heavy!

4/5

Main notes:
Geranium, Patchouli, tonka and moss

Livin' on the Edge (Bruno Jovanovic, 2020)
Scentrack: Paradis - Sur Une Chanson En Français

Rochas is the fashion house I am really fond of. Their creations are usually very interesting by always bringing something new. For instance, Macassar, Lui, Globe, Rochas Man, Moustache. Such beautiful masculine offerings. I was somehow disappointed when L’Homme was introduced. Another amboxane bomb in a blue bottle. Another Sauvage-like shower gel for the politically correct new decade. OK, Rochas has to earn some money as well.

Yes, it has ambroxane and it possesses this Axe tedious cleanliness, but fortunately, it has some unexpected aspects. I must confess that Master Jovanovic did a remarkable job. In my opinion, this the way to sneak in a classical aspect in the contemporary creation. Rochas L’Homme opens with strong and fizzy synthetic orange note accompanied by a cheesy pineapple, cardamom, and a hefty dose of trendy ambroxane. The opening is not promising, but fortunately, the best is yet to come. Soon some classic almost fougere-ish aspects are introduced. Juniper is responsible for a delicate G&T vibe, while geranium gives this quintessential French structure. The base is somehow synthetically fleeting with again trendy Tonka bean and just a touch of clean patchouli. This Tonka is very interesting by giving me sometimes an amaretto cookie vibe. Interesting touch.

Rochas L’Homme is not the best creation I have ever smelled, but it is very skillfully composed. It is easy to wear and very contemporary, but with several hidden layers waiting to be peeled off. A nice addition to a usual grim ambroxane fragrance scene. Livin’ on the edge of an abyss.

The next Phase of the Blue scents
This is one of those blue scents that barely smells like one. Yes, it is very versatile but it's not aquatic, it is more green than usual. Has great performance (8 hours) and costs very little.

You can pull this off with a suit or a T-shirt, although I wouldn't use it on a date or something that requires more sensuality. For me it smells like a clean, professional scent.

With the fragrance market completly saturated by your regular blue scents, I feel like this is the next phase. A phase that mantains that versatility but adds something different. In this case that difference is it's herbal tone.

With all that said, it is VERY worth it. Big bang for buck.
For me, easy top 3 fragrance releases of 2020 (designers).

Job well done Rochas!
Rochas have been stepping up their male fragrance game recently, Moustache EdP was a fine example and they continue down the same excellent path with this release.

The virtue of L’Homme lies in the basics of it’s simplicity. It comes across like a classic barbershop fougère up-dated for the 2020s : The fresh citrus opening and the green notes from geranium and basil with a slightly soapy powderiness, the twist comes from the tonka in the base which makes it more contemporary. I find the fruitiness of the opening to have a bit of comparison to K by D&G EdT, with the blood orange and citrus only without the signature pimento that K has, which is instead replaced by cardamom. This opening ascends to a heart of geranium, basil and juniper (and I seem to detect some sage as well?) with just a touch of ambroxan. Finally, the base of patchouli and the sweet tonka come through – in the listed notes it also says moss, but I get more of an amberwood impression?

If you’re a fan of Bois de Vetiver by Karl Lagerfeld, this is somewhere in the same ballpark but more dense and concentrated. You can use it in most settings, but this would fit perfectly on a medium cool spring night, and it would be natural to put it in same category as the original D&G Pour Homme. Longevity and projection are both satisfying without being a beastly in any way. Very well composed by Bruno Jovanovic and job well done Rochas!

A Modern Fougere with Rich and Spicy Depth
Awesome Fragrance , A Modern Fougere, Fresh, Clean, Complex and Unique, One of the best Blue Fragrance without Ambroxan! It has High Quality and Good Composition with reasonable price ! It opens up with like fresh citrusy spicy and green notes in the background then dry down is a little bit sweetness musky woody. This is very pleasant from the opening to the dry down and perfect for the spring summer and fall. The art of bottle design is very wonderful, elegant with deep blue and metal plaque. I really enjoy it and I love L'Homme Rochas EDT, I'm so happy that I have it in my collection. Longevity is good. Special Thanks to : Scent Land and Joy Amin on YouTube, Because they explain it very well and It was blind-buy for me. Highly Recommended.
Two Thumbs Up.
Bravo Rochas!

Fresh bitternes with some herbal accents. I get mostly blood orange, cardamom and basil. Perfect office scent, nice and not offensive.

Well-rounded and sweet blue scent. Pleasant but nothing new. Fruity-fresh with sweetness and cardamom. Aromatic and tonka in the drydown.

This is not far from Drakkar Noir. Definitely fresh with a hint of spice. Seems pretty timeless and masculine to me. Perhaps uninspired.
