A lovely fruity floral fragrance with hints of angelica.
Angelica Florae is the first perfume from Roos & Roos that I have tested. The word ‘angelica florae’ means angelica flowers in Latin. The overall personality of this perfume is herbaceous fruity floral. Nicolas Bonneville from Firmenich is the perfumer who created Angelica Florae. This perfume is a member of the ‘Les Simples’ collection from Roos & Roos perfumes that are priced around $100 for 100 ml. This review is based on an original atomizer sample from Jovoy Paris.
The notes listed for Angelica Florae on Roos & Roos website are angelica flower, star anise, pink pepper, black pepper, jasmine, patchouli and angelica seed. Angelica flower is considered to smell earthy, sweet and musky. But the opening smells very different from Guerlain Angelique Noire. The top notes of Angelica Florae are angelica flowers with a hint of star anise, but the strong jasmine note appears almost immediately. The pink pepper and black pepper are not perceptible to me as separate notes. The combination of angelica and jasmine creates a fruity pear and apricot accord that defines this perfume. It could also be osmanthus that produces these notes. In Angelique Noire, the vanilla sharpens the sweet green aroma of angelica in the opening, making it very dissimilar. Angelica Florae becomes a bit more herbaceous in the base notes, but the essential personality remains unchanged. There is hardly any detectable patchouli in Angelica Florae. I do not see much development as the fragrance progresses on the skin. However, it is very lovely fruity-floral scent with herbal accents.
I like the performance of Angelica Florae on my skin. The longevity is about 6-8 hours with good sillage for the first few hours. It will work fine in the office, if you don’t mind smelling like a ripe pear. It is not sharp enough to attract attention.
I hesitate to give Angelica Florae a strong recommendation. There is a certain generic fruity floral feel to it, which along with its cost makes it less appealing. I wonder how Angelica Florae compares with fruity floral scents like Burberry Woman. But I admit that it is a perfume that is nicely crafted with natural, vegan ingredients. The vegan label is mostly for marketing, as most perfumes are already vegan without trying. If you are looking for a fruity floral with some herbal notes, it is worth testing a sample.
