Surprising Orange Blossom
At the first sniff one could easily be mistaken that Terres Dorées Fleurs d'Oranger is a simple traditional orange blossom cologne type fragrance. Because that's exactly what the top notes are. A blast of citrus blossoms and petitgrain which reminds me of legendary Echt Kölnisch Wasser Eau de Cologne. But the drydown is very surprising! The citrusy facet of the orange blossom note fades and it turns into something much more floral - the bouquet of roses and lilacs really makes it bloom. The rose note is sweet and reminds me of rose jam but it's interestingly balanced with the slight bitterness of the orange blossom petitgrain combo. The final result makes me somehow think of baking and marzipan and a fragrance called Snowcake by Lush. Something that I would have never expected of an orange blossom eau de toilette! To me it's a perfect combination of fresh and sweet which makes the fragrance wearable all year round. Based on the note pyramid I would never have thought that I would call this fragrance gourmand, but that's how I feel about it, it's a lovely little gourmand in Lush Snowcake kind of way without smelling like too edible or overly sweet. People who are searching for a simple citrus dominated fragrance are probably disappointed when the top notes of this perfume fade quite fast and the rose jam marzipan drydown stays for several hours. It is still citrusy though, but in a lemon muffin kind of way. It sits quite close to skin and will not most likely offend anyone. To me it gives cosy and comforting vibes, so lovely, inviting and ingenuous, like giving a spontaneous hug to your mom when she's baking.
