From pickled cucumber to creamy skin scent
Sometimes sandalwood scents of recent years have a undertone that reminds me of cucumbers or pickles. I know I'm not the only one who smells it, and I also know that it varies from person to person which perfumes turn out pickle-ish. Unfortunately Santal Blanc does it for me, especially in the opening. It's relatively fresh and not completely drenched in vinegar, but I definitely get that dressed savory cucumber note.
On the plus side it becomes much better in the drydown. Coconutty and creamy aspects come out. The fragrance turns into a nice sandaly, musky skin scent with an underlying warmth. At this point the white color starts to make sense.
But annoyingly there is still a bit of that sour, herbal note looming in the background ever so subtly.
It's obviously not for me, but I know this genre has its fans and I'm sure it smells better to other houses. The creaminess of the drydown bumps it up to a 7 for me, the opening alone would score much, much lower.
