Vanilla Lace's secret: incense
Vanilla Lace is not an overly-sweet vanilla. I used to think it was "vanilla musk" back when I used it in the early 2000s, but now when I smell my bottle I smell the distinct note of incense instead. It increases the vanilla's warmth and depth, but incense isn't something I personally enjoy anymore so I have other vanillas I prefer to this one. Still a classic, nostalgic vanilla.
It's well done, but I'm baffled by how expensive it is now on resale platforms - guess it goes to show that a well done vanilla is actually not easy to find/replace.

*"Somethin Special" (small perfume business - I'm not affiliated) makes a dupe of this that they call "Vanilla and Pearls". It's nearly identical to Vanilla Lace - so if you're missing this now that it's super expensive and hard to find, go grab their version instead!
