The Relativizing Element in Dragée
For a long time, very long, I hesitated to articulate my feelings about a fragrance, even though I am a big fan of Parfumo and visit the site almost daily. I have occasionally swapped some samples and ordered decants. The lovely extras always activated my guilty conscience - the motto being: You can't just take, be active too. A package from Remano was then the decisive factor that finally made me step out of my comfort zone.

Dragée - the name suggests something sweet. And precisely for this reason, I would have sworn on a stack of Bibles that I would NEVER write a comment about this fragrance. Because everything that is dominantly sweet, drifting into gourmand territory, causes me stomach discomfort. But curiosity won out, and I dripped a few drops onto my wrist.
Sweet, for sure. But there is more. A complexity that goes beyond almond milk. It’s as if a bright, shiny swirl of deep dark reddish-brown, viscous liquid has intruded into the pastel image of ecru and cream. Is it the slightly burnt crust that forms at the bottom of the pan after caramelizing? The scent changes little in the first hour. I hold that against it a bit.

Towards the end, shavings of wood push to the forefront. In my imagination, it comes from a legendary vanilla tree. Of course, it doesn’t exist, since the vanilla pod comes from an orchid species. But Dragée is a juggler. Dragée has seduced me to engage with a fragrance despite my spontaneous aversion - due to its name. That is true (perfumer) art. It would be my first gourmand fragrance. Why not… “What do I care about my talk from yesterday?” my father-in-law likes to say. A saying that I have previously interpreted rather critically. Thanks to Dragée, I finally understand him.

Dolce Vita in Fragrance Form
I must once again advocate for this fragrance. I have had it for almost 2 years; it somehow came to me as a blind buy, and I immediately loved it. And the longer I have it, the more I appreciate this affordable, sweet masterpiece.

First and foremost, Dragée is exactly that: sweet. This can quickly become too much, but fortunately, it is different here - Dragée is a fresh almond dessert with fluffy orange pieces. A dessert one might find at summer weddings. Nevertheless, the fragrance does not smell romantic or kitschy, but rather cheerful and chic at the same time. The aroma is strong and long-lasting without being overwhelming. I smell more bitter almond than marzipan, and in the background, a clean orange blossom wafts very softly.

For me, the fragrance radiates a bright, friendly mood; it smells like "Dolce Vita." Even when applied sparingly, it is lovely at high temperatures and envelops me like a playful, white chiffon dress.

With Dragée, everything feels a bit lighter.

A Little Sweet Pleasure
If the word dragee primarily brings to mind TicTac and similar products or - heaven forbid! - medicinal preparations in dragee form, then it certainly provides a good basis for comparison with the fragrance. However, I find that unfortunate, as it offers something more than just mundane mass-produced sweets on supermarket shelves.

Dragee as a confection has a history of over a hundred years (the word "dragee" is even older, originating from the ancient Greek "tragema," meaning "sweet treat"). Known in Europe since the 13th century, refined in the 18th century as an exquisite delicacy, and perfected in the 19th century - almonds encased in a sugar shell have become constant companions of joyful celebrations such as baptisms, weddings, communions, and Easter festivities, thus symbolizing joy of life and new beginnings (as some perfumes here have rightly noted).

And so the fragrance presents itself, this youngest sister in the trio of Les Notes Gourmandes - light-footed and shining with girlish charm. The scent does not necessarily come across as overly girly, although it is very suitable for young girls. In any case, it exudes a certain elegance and clarity.

The scent progression does not take any sharp turns - I perceive a sweet glazed almond confection with floral accords and sprinkles of green freshness almost throughout. The top note, however, is a bit zestier and brighter, which I find particularly lovely.

I do not get any associations with Christmas - in my opinion, the scent is only slightly warm, not excessively sweet, and hardly marzipan-like or marshmallowy. A big plus for me - that it does not smell overly "edible," it remains a dragee scent and not a dragee aroma aka baking ingredient.

The longevity is okay at 6-7 hours, becoming more intimate in the last hours. The projection is also very pleasant, one can perceive the scent well. The sillage is moderate, but still acceptable.

Not heavy, not sexy, not sultry - this bright, uncomplicated gourmand is not a hefty calorie bomb, but a nice little treat - un petit plaisir sucré.

Now recognized: I am an almond-orange!
In the never-ending search for one's own personality - who doesn't know that... - and not being equipped with a multiple personality myself, I have no doubt in this regard: I am an almond-orange! As soon as I perceive almond-orange combinations, I feel completely mirrored, understood, recognized. I first noticed this with a completely harmless fragrance at an even more harmless price: Night Sky white by Jean-Pierre Sand. Wood eye, be vigilant, I thought back then, when I got to know this wonderful harmony of gentle, not too sweet almond and zesty, fruity orange. An absolute revelation and since then one of my declared favorite fragrances has been Armani Code Cashmere - what Night Sky white cautiously experimented with had reached perfection here: Indeed, cashmere-soft harmony between almond and orange, velvety-soft caressing of all senses.

Now I have come to Dragée in my spring fragrances and the game repeats itself: I am helplessly at the mercy of this flattering, velvety, cuddly, not too sweet, slightly fresh, slightly creamy olfactory impression; I can do nothing but love it admiringly. This is for me the perfect scent for working, for walking, for relaxing on the sofa with a nice book: This balance of fresh, fruity citrus notes of the sweet kind and creamy-velvety almond paste is unmatched in its equilibrium. In Dragée, Petitgrain and Mandarin play a role in the opening and the orange as a blossom in the heart, which is why I like to choose this fragrance for spring due to its minimally fresher component. The almond, which here also appears more fleeting and floral only as a blossom, does not deny its character at all, and here comes the Dragée, which, as all lovers of Italy know, is inseparably linked to spring, to awakening, to growth, to gentle rays of sunshine, to Easter: Italians serve white, crunchy almond dragées at christenings, weddings, and Easter. As lovely-delicate-sweet as the first rays of sunshine in spring, the first birdsong in still bare trees, the first moment in the garden without a scarf - so delicate is the Italian almond dragée compared to a bar of milk nougat chocolate. It is the crackable and chewable promise of spring and it is ALWAYS a reminder of Italy (although I also find the association with the southern French Calissons mentioned in a statement here very apt - France also has these delicately sweet treats, which Les Notes Gourmandes - Dragées incorporates). Then, after a few hours, you are enveloped by the tender-sweet-woody base of musk, vanilla, and cedarwood - a beautiful day has passed, you were subtly-harmoniously perfumed and now snuggle contentedly into a velvety-soft bed. A truly beautiful fragrance experience.

That these beautiful images evoked by Dragée are reflected in the delicate bottle makes it all perfect. I don't want to experience a spring without Les Notes Gourmandes - Dragée anymore.

My Riddle
As soon as I applied the fragrance, I played Sherlock Holmes and was in my memory palace. What am I smelling? It's not caramel, marzipan doesn't fit either, almonds - roasted or plain - no, that doesn't really fit either. Most closely, it's a butter toffee or fresh fudge.
I can't detect any scent progression on me. It is fully present right away and stays that way. A true gourmand, not too sweet, just right for cuddling. It was even praised by my husband: he should take a whiff and see what it could be. And he found it beautiful and elegant. He doesn't particularly like fragrances. Gourmands and vanilla are the ones he appreciates the most, a sweet tooth indeed.
The longevity is quite okay at just over 7 hours, with a noticeable sillage in the first 2 hours, but after that, it is only close to the skin.

That's a realistic scent of Mentos chewing candies, some of the sweeter flavors. Not something I want to wear.

At first, the perfume smells exactly like Amaretti cookies and quickly transitions into a lightly creamy dessert.

Charming woods, pure vanilla rejoicing the orange blossom and enchanting the almond blossom. Rounded off with cardamom. It doesn't get better than this.

L is actually somewhat similar, but I never really liked it before. Dragee, on the other hand, I really enjoy. Like a dessert, fantastic :-)

Delicate almond-vanilla with a hint of orange blossom that balances the initial sweetness very well.
