Hauntingly beautiful
I picked up a bunch of the Jo Malone x Zara collaboration scents when they first went on sale. Who could pass up on rollerballs and candles for a few euros a pop? And let me tell you, I was pleasantly surprised at the quality, especially coming out of a place like Zara where many of their offerings are dupes that smell offensive and cheap…

Elegantly Tokyo is a white floral woody scent with a hint of spice that leaves a hauntingly beautiful trail wherever you go. Heavy on the jasmine, I find it projects well and lasts a long time, especially when directly sprayed on clothing. One of the more unique scents in the collection, it’s quite refreshing to see something like this in Zara instead of something that is sickly sweet.

Spicy, woody lilac
Zara has recently reissued some fragrances, including three from the Olfactive Collection. I had bought the Discovery Set back then to be able to test the 8 city fragrances extensively before making a purchase. (Why are these discovery sets no longer available for the current collections? A real shame.)
At the time, I opted for Fashionably London and Energetically New York. These two are among the fragrances that have now been reissued. The third is Elegantly Tokyo and I've now taken it out of the Discovery set again to see why I decided against it back then.

As soon as I spray it on, I don't like it at all. I smell a decaying bouquet of flowers. Not very pleasant. I have to say that floral fragrances are rarely my cup of tea.
After a few minutes, however, the unpleasant scent has disappeared and it is a very clear floral fragrance for me. My association is lilac. And I like it!
Yes, I really like the scent, although I'm not a fan of floral fragrances and probably wouldn't wear it because I don't think floral scents suit me. That was probably also the reason why I didn't buy a large bottle of Elegantly Tokyo. Nevertheless, I would like to acknowledge that I like the fragrance. It smells very natural to me. Whenever I sniff the test strip, I have lilac in front of my eyes (although it doesn't appear in the fragrance pyramid).
As the fragrance develops, it becomes spicier and a little woody. In any case, a very clear, clean fragrance for me.

I will probably not buy Elegantly Tokyo, even in the new edition, but I am currently considering whether I should buy the fragrance for my son. In my opinion, it would suit a young man who doesn't want to put himself in the limelight too much with his fragrance, but wants to smell naturally fresh without going in a citrusy or aquatic direction, but rather staying "grounded" with floral-woody vibes and a certain spiciness.

Fresh Clean Floral
A simple white floral is hardly groundbreaking but this is a good pick if you’re looking for a clean daily jasmine that’s well worth your money.

The jasmine is more fresh and green than indolic. The opening lily note doesn’t stick around for me, instead it’s 70% jasmine and 30% neroli (the same synthetic neroli that Jo Malone tends to use) for the first hour or so. Then the woody/soft patchouli drydown makes itself known and that’s when it gets GOOD. The Akigalawood blend merges with the jasmine in a way that works incredibly well for me, giving the florals a velvety base and some depth. Performance is insane, easily lasts 18 hours on skin alone.

Yes, this is a very basic jasmine but it’s a good daily wear year round. Incredible value if you want a fresh, clean floral.

Freshness for a while
This one delivers what the notes promise: a fresh and watery lily, soft jasmine and some grounding wood.

The opening feels a lot like wandering in a japanese garden, including a waterlily koi pond. The jasmine is present for the longest part of the ride, and is not overly indolic - it all remains quite fresh and clean, if somewhat synthetic.

For its price it’s surprisingly elegant, has an impressive sillage and a very good longevity. Big compliment getter, too, if anecdotal evidence counts.

The only downside is the late dry down (after about 3 hours, and the rest of the night), which i perceive as sharp and sour. I can’t attribute it to something cheap as i experienced a very similar, unpleasant sharp note in more expensive perfumes like Dyptique Eau des sens and Hermes Jardin de Monsieur Li. It’s probably something my nose doesn’t like - your mileage may vary.

I can smell it intensely on myself but others don’t feel it particularly strong. Would have been a good trait were it a more interesting scent.

Very jasmine. Linear and basic. And sometimes bugspray.

As if I've just washed myself with my bougie Jasmine showergel : the jasmine is prominent, but it's also fresh, synthetic and a tad soapy.
