modern shisha lounge
My third favourite of the DvN fam. A smoky herbal that manages to come off clean, sweet, and faintly metallic. (But not like a vape pen! It’s giving more soft hookah). Would happily wear either day or night. The rosemary adds a subtle bite of spice. I find natural rosemary an overpowering scent (which also only makes me think of grilled chicken), but for some reason I loved it in this fragrance. Also I think this was supposed to be the rebellious/rockstar scent of the bunch, but I didn’t catch much of the cannabis. It’s there on first spritz, but quickly evanesces. Blessedly, nothing skunky about this one.

Longevity: about 6h on skin and clothes; I worked out in this scent and it lasted for a very out-of-shape 5k!

Mental Snapshot: You’re looking across the Mojave chaparral at midnight from the vantage of your glass-panelled loft. There’s not a soul around, save for a handsome android in your kitchen, preparing you a nightcap.

tl;dr: modern shisha lounge

That's all, folks!
On my skin, it opens with a resinous/fig leaf sweetness that quickly mixes with a herbal patchouli and creamy woods. With time, it develops a sharpness without losing a balsamic and warm quality.
It's good, one of my favourites from the line but i can't hope to be disappointed. With such distinct bottles and knowing the complex and layered universe that Dries presents to us, I was expecting the fragrances would be equally unique but, to me, they are not. They are predictable, only scratching at the surface, familiar in a sense that i smelled these combinations before, like a collection of existing formulas and not the exploration of new ones.
There is a certain laziness that bothers me and doesn't match with the brand... or maybe i just had very high expectations.

Advent, Advent - Stoned again...
Voodoo Chile by Dries Van Noten is a fragrance that provokes and polarizes, but is certainly not my typical everyday companion.
The very first impression makes me think of another Dries van Noten fragrance, namely Cannabis Patchouli.
The top notes of cannabis and rosemary open with a bittersweet, spicy freshness that immediately leaves a rebellious impression. This is not a mainstream fragrance.

In the heart note, Indonesian patchouli comes to the fore, combined with a resinous note that gives the fragrance a balsamic and smoky depth. The patchouli is dark and earthy, with a green, natural quality.

The base note brings a woody warmth with New Caledonian sandalwood and Virginia cedar that is somehow calming, but does not diminish the provocative nature of the fragrance.

What makes this fragrance so special is the balance between natural and synthetic notes.
For me personally, Voodoo Chile is not an everyday fragrance, it is too stoned for that, too strongly associated with a certain atmosphere.
It is a fragrance for special moments when you want to make a statement or transport yourself to another world.

Anyone with a penchant for unusual and provocative compositions will not be disappointed.
But be careful: you can smell a bit stoned...!
Unfortunately, the name Voodoo Chile is not clear to me.

Really interesting and, to me, unique. Spicy and herbal. Not my type of scent profile, but nice for what it is.
