Portrait of a Lady - On Fire!
I will rank this perfume on two merit's, as a clone and then as a scent, I think it's important to distinguish the two.
As a clone, this is not Portrait of a Lady. This and many other clones suffer the same issue of not developing, they get elements of it correct (usually the most prominent note) without considering how it will smell and change in 3, 5, 8 hours later. These clones often do well at replicating designer, or cheaper/low quality perfumes because they can at that budget, and those duped perfumes are often not that well made or are cheaper to begin with, therefore being easier to replicate.
If Portrait of Lady is a natural rich rose that slowly transitions into a petrichor (wet, damp, earthy); French Portrait is a cheap smelling rich rose on fire, for 4-8 hours (longevity is always person dependent). No earthiness or any other notes that support Portrait of a Lady, zero blackcurrant, clove, patchouli or sandalwood. There might be an overdose of clove or patchouli that is used to amplify the cheap rose, giving it that fiery feel, but you don't smell it in harmony or as a note like you do in Portrait of a Lady. French Portrait has no elegance as it's so aggressive, whereas Portrait of a Lady is loud but delicate, likely due to a higher amount of naturals and quality blending (400 Turkish Roses per 100ml supposedly).
Now as a scent on its own, it's fine. The fiery rose gives it a real grandma feel rather than the gothic nature of a Portrait of a Lady. I didn't let it "macerate" (I shouldn't need to) so maybe that could be contributing to its one noted-ness. I really didn't like this, and got rid of it pretty quickly as it gave me a headache, but felt nothing giving it away as it was cheap and soulless.
Overall this doesn't reflect Portrait of a Lady and I did not like French Portrait, but loved the original! I think clones need to punch in their weight, you obviously won't be able to replicate a £200+ fragrance at £20, and thinking you will get the same smell and quality at this price is deluded.
Certain perfumes are well known because of how they are blended, quality of naturals, technical mastery in perfumery, Portrait of a Lady is one of them. Your GC-MS machine is not going to be able to recreate that same level of quality, and the cheap price means you aren't getting any naturals in this either, so why even make this?
Just buy decants of Portrait of a Lady if you want it for cheaper, you don't need many sprays for it to go far.
