Really Misses the Mark
I admit it: I am a big fan of Fragrance World. They have always been a house kown for being consistently inconsistent, but over the last two years or so, they have had some very impressive stuff. They take the unobtainable and make it for the every man (and lady too). The French Avenue line is especially of high quality.
La Nuit de l'Homme Bleu Electrique has long been held by the community to be the most beloved member of the entire l'Homme/ La Nuit de l'Homme lineage and it's so sad that YSL discontinued it. There was certainly a wanting to scratch that itch and several companies have tried to step up and provide a good alternative. I believe FW was actually the first to release their interpretation of BE, and there was a lot of chatter when it hit shelves. I purchased my bottle in late 2024 for about $20, after having already owned Bleu Electrique, Al Nashama Caprice, and Iconic Nuit for several months. I read in several places that Jack was spot on to BE.
It's with a heavy heart that I report Jack turned out to be a massive disappointment. Upon first spray, there is an unbelievably synthetic ginger note. Real ginger is FAR from being an expensive ingredient, I can't understand why they would use this terrible synthetic note, along with a really cheap smelling bergamot. This opening is horrible and the smokey Vetiver base note is very obvious even from initial application. The overpowering vetiver, and cheap bergamot and ginger are pretty much choking out every other ingredient.
As it dries down that awful ginger bergamot starts to fade, but never leaves completely, giving way to a nice cardamom and lavender. It's a long dry down, not very satisfying to my nose. That vetiver note is way too strong and is there for the entire duration of the fragrance. You can tell what they are trying to do, and it definitely does resemble Bleu Electrique, just a really rough approximation of what it is supposed to be.
I sprayed out 5ml and put the bottle into a dark climate controlled storage unit. I have checked on it revisited it every few months but it hasn't really changed much. It's a bit smoother upon initial application, but the notes just clash. I have heard a few people say that this smells more like vintage LNDH, and I strongly disagree. I am fortunate enough to be able to say that I have two vintage 2011 LNDH travel sprays and they smell much better than this.
This stuff was so disappointing to me. Al Nashama Caprice and Iconic Nuit Cerulean from Grandeur are both much better fragrances than Jack. I can't believe this is rated so highly on here. If you took Jack in a vacuum, I suppose it would be fine as a stand alone fragrance (after that bad opening anyways), but compared to its muse BE and it's competitors, it's a massive disappointment.
