Corpse Reviver - vibes and general thoughts
A large, unshaven man sits alone in his cabin. It's the holiday season, so he decided to bake a rich chocolate cake filled with aromatic spices. He pours himself another glass of whisky, savoring every sip. Countless taxidermied animals fill the small space, his only companions.

This is probably the most "manly" gourmand fragrance I have ever tried. It's heavy, intense, both bitter and sweet, boozy, and downright dirty. While it's by no means a favorite of mine, I can't help but to sniff my wrists constantly whenever I do wear it. It does tend to induce headaches for me if I'm not careful.

Slightly Sinister Cake
This is someone making a totally unique cake. The sponge is made with dark chocolate that is just shy of being bitter. The rich sponges are soaked with an herbal simple syrup. The frosting isn't made from sugar but from whisky, adding spice and sweetness. Finally the cake is decorated with yellow flowers and slices of blood oranges. What you get is a gourmand unlike any other. Its edible but not cloyingly sweet. Its enticing but also slightly sinister.

This fragrance lasted about 5 hours on my skin. It has aromatic elements that create a nice scent bubble around you and the chocolate is glued to your skin. There are two sizes available starting at 9ml for $58 and 130ml for $145.

Chocolatey, Boozy Femme Fatale
Chocolatey, boozy, and a touch medicinal. The chocolate is impressive to me because I usually can't detect chocolate or cocoa notes in perfume, but here it's undeniable. I don't imagine myself wearing it often, but I could totally see finding a person wearing this alluring AF.

This is another Fzotic fragrance that evokes a character for me. She's drunk on her own confidence. Dark lipstick, cigarettes, and bedroom eyes. Maybe a poet. She hangs out in dark bars and coffee shops. She's definitely going to break your heart.

TL;DR: If creamy and overly sweet notes turned you from gourmands, this might turn you back.

I have an affliction with a lot gourmand perfumes. If they are too sweet or powdery, overtime they will make me nauseated. I attribute this to the Bath and Body Works 'sugar vanilla' body spray, the enemy of my childhood.

Thus, I am usually A gourmand hater. Corpse Reviver turned the tide for me.

Are these the ingredients in an actual Corpse Reviver drink? No. Do I care? Also no, because this is incredibly beautiful in it's own way. There is a balance at play here. The bitterness of the blood orange and dark chocolate, the pure unsweetened vanilla, the wood, herbaceous, and animalic qualities.

This is everything I want in a gourmand.

The dry down holds a good amount of the original fragrance from the first spray. It does loose the blood orange but retains the woods, and the whiskey comes through slightly more. There is also no lactic or creamy notes, so for warmer nights Corpse Reviver still works.

Waking the Dead...
my grandfather loved chocolate. There were always some pieces of dark chocolate hidden in his lower desk drawer.
This is my first association, wood in the sun, dark chocolate, and a accidentally knocked-over whiskey glass....No, no one is drunk here, the entire scent landscape is peaceful. So peaceful as lifelong habits and so profound as those.
Blood orange offers warm citrus, rosemary and dried fruits provide unsentimental familiarity.
So finely tuned that no note stands out.
So lovingly that it immediately awakens all the feelings that chocolate can evoke: joy, pleasure, security, comfort, calm, warmth.

so familiar that it makes me feel my dead grandpa.
"light awakener".....in the very best sense....

Like cake and death. Decadent and oddly compelling.

Dark chocolate boozy cocktail - complex and potentially challenging to wear, but rewarding

All I got was coriander seed and spices past their use by date. Dry down softened this but still had to wash it off!

A good gourmand, floral yet dark, orange adds an interesting nuance, mildly animalistic, gentle whiskey, really nice.

Aside from the old orange that’s a bit off-putting, it’s a harmonious, strong dark gourmand, with a clear emphasis on whisky and chocolate.

Not as bad as the reviews make it out to be. A semi-gourmand scent that strongly reminds me of Perverso. Not bad.

"Charlatan" (Fort+Manle) has grown up, smokes, drinks whiskey, and can awaken the dead with his profound smile - addictive danger.
